This story is a sequel to The Life and Times of a Winning Pony

The changeling attack on Canterlot left the city devastated. Chrysalis and her swarm brought Equestria to its knees, and it was only through powerful magic and more than a little luck that the pony civilization survived.

Yet, an attack of this scale requires careful planning and preparations--and information that only guardsponies close to Princess Celestia would have. Guardsponies like Major Nimbus Gust.

For an infiltration on this scale, Chrysalis needs an agent with more independence and free will than any changeling under her control possess. Fortunately for her, though, not all changelings in the world are under her control—and for the right price, some would even be willing to help.

Chapters (1)

Celestia is feeling maternally nostalgic, Twilight accidentally turns her body into that of a filly, and Luna experiences the joy of being an aunt. Also; Trixie will eventually become a guard for a day, Discord will at some point have a few good laughs, and Spike will have to deal with his big sister suddenly being shorter than him when he's actually informed.

This is a Twilight/Celestia mother-figure/daughter-figure family fluff filled story stuck together with humor. Pretend this thing has a fluff tag. Also, there will most likely be no pairings in this story that aren't canon-compliant.

Note: Updates shall be erratic. Very erratic. I apologize in advance.

Such scars riddle the changeling queen, scars from a past that nopony alive remembers, save Celestia. Visiting Celestia in the middle of the night, she taints the air with a threat, or perhaps a promise?
Celestia contacts the bearers, requesting that they come to canterlot in case it needs more defense then Shining Armor and the guard can give, only to here something disturbing.

Twilight is gone, tearing away the greatest weapon they have.

As the centuries pass, cutie marks come and go. Some are common: the healing cross, the basic compass rose, the courier bag. Others are extinct: no more mercenary companies, no more mercenary marks. A few are incredibly scarce, coming along once a generation or less: the mark for luck falls into that category. A number only manifest when the call for them arrives: train tracks didn't appear until it was railroading time. But for the most part, ponies take their mark with its associated talent and magic as a blessing in their lives -- no matter what that mark turns out to be. And they accept it as they accept themselves.

Luna, in her first truly open palace session dealing with the public, is about to meet the exception: Joyous Release, a pony who wants nothing more than to be rid of her mark forever -- and every bit of the talent which comes with it.

But marks are permanent...
