Deciding to pay her old friend, Princess Twilight, a visit, Sunset Shimmer returns to find Equestria no longer the “friendly” kingdom she remembered.

Looking for answers, she joins a rag tag team of young ponies, who hope to make Equestria the kingdom it once was.

Queen Haven is looking in the castle basement for some crystals for a new crown when she comes across some boxes with odd writing. She goes to Sunny for help.

She genuinely thought it would work...

Sunny Starscout has lost all hope, after her search for the crystals turned out to be all for nothing, she wanted nothing more to do than to just go home and accept defeat.

But can a letter from an old family member be enough to lift the downhearted earth pony's spirits?

Nothing much, got a home in a place called Appleloosa that I haven't been back to in around a year or so. But now, now I'm fighting a war thanks to an asshole trying to take over the world and being 'offered' a job by the royalty of the land.

I still get to blow things up so what ever. The only thing I can say that I want is my original gender.

Author Notes: Yes, this is a HIE story. Yes, I know how much people hate self inserts or anything similar to it. And yes, I don't care what people say about this. I'm writing this because I feel like it and nobody can stop me from doing it. To quote Eminem, "See you can hate 'em, he don't blame you frankly he would too." Since I can't use too many character tags, just assume I'll be using every character from the show.

(While I actually thought of the title and premise for this story by listening to Aerosmith's Permanent Vacation, the current cover art just seemed to fit the opening chapter better.)

Note that the Gore tag is simply because of things like characters getting stabbed, shot, etc... Nothing too graphic or descriptive, but better safe than sorry.

Princess Morgan Annie Spencer. That's my name. I've had it for almost 200 years (certain travels may vary). My sixteenth birthday is in about a two months and I'm bursting at the seems in excitement.
So, what's changed? Oh! I'm an alicorn now. Yeah. That's a whole other mess I don't want to get into. Lilac's ten now, aged slowly by the Traveling. Oh, but she loves it!
It's been nearly five years for me. It's had it's ups and downs. I'm still suffering from the loss of Darcy. I somehow managed to get a boycoltfriend, Bumblebee. He's hiding something from me, and I can't figure it out! I only managed to get him because of a message from Future Morgan, who never lies to me.
Strange things have been happening to me my whole life. It's hard to remember some of them. All I remember for sure is he is trying to ruin my life. He helped turn me human in Equestria. Why can't I remember? Rule Seven says I have to remember everything, and it pisses me off that I forgot!
I'm gonna fix the mess this bastard has caused. I'm gonna find a way to bring Darcy back. I'm gonna get Bumblebee back. I'm gonna win back Lilac's trust. I'm gonna fix all of this.

One of Morgan Spencer's favorite holidays has come around again. Easter Sunday! The one Sunday that she looks forward to going to her family's church and spending time with her family. The only problem? Her grandparents on her father's side are in town and don't know about Lilac.
