Chapter 122: Defending the Homefront

It had been a day after Isaac left with Sunset and Applejack to Appaloosa, Twilight went to back to the library as she needed to take care of some stuff. Spike was in the kitchen as he was preparing them lunch; Twilight used this time by herself as she wanted to go over an issue that was on her mind that was bothering her.

"I guess, it's time. Time for me to say goodbye. Once Isaac and Sunset return from their mission, then they'll leave." sighed Twilight with some sadness on her face. "I know I shouldn't hold Isaac back, he has to go home. But him being here, it changed me. I never knew what love was, since all my life, I never experienced it. And yet when I saw him, I couldn't help but want to get closer to him." Twilight then was thinking back on all the times she had spent with the caramel colt as it came rushing to her.

"My heart, it felt great when he arrived. And now that he's leaving, I feel it breaking into a million pieces. I... I... want Isaac to stay here. Let us continue to be friends and maybe even more. But I can't, he has someone back home. Not to mention his family, I can't imagine being responsible for not seeing his family." said Twilight. "Why am I even thinking this way? Why kind of princess or pony would wish someone to not go back home just so that they could fill their own personal desires? I have to accept this, Isaac is leaving the moment his mission is a success. The right thing to do is to make sure that he enjoyed his time here and that he'll have something to look back on." Twilight felt her heart ease up on the pain as she had a tiny smile on her face. With that she began to get started on completing her selected books she chose for her break.

Spike had finished making lunch as he brought a plate to the library as he saw Twilight being engaged in a book. He saw that based on Twilight's posture, she was deeply engraved into her literature that she couldn't be bothered unless she finished or she could sense something was out of order. So the little drake just simply dropped the platter on the side table next to Twilight's couch as he slowly exited and quietly closed the door to not disturb the purple princess.

With that Spike began to do some chores around the houses as he had a small list of things to do around the castle. Thankfully, Twilight had taken care of most of them the other day, which meant that there wasn't much left for the dragon. He then got started on cleaning every window in the castle as he whistled a merry tune. After that he got to work on sending some scrolls to different ponies; he then took care of properly disposing the trash as he dumped several bags into the bin. The last thing on his list was to check the kitchen for any supplies they might need. While it wasn't too empty, having four ponies to feed did take a toll. So Spike made a quick shopping list on the items he would need to restock when he was out in the market. Once everything had been checked off, Spike then decided to see how Twilight was doing as he peaked his head in. Seems Twilight was still engraved in her books as she had already been through 10 since he last checked on her and she still had 20 more to go through. Spike knew that Twilight would be busy for a while so he just grabbed the finished plate and closed the door.

Spike had a saddle bag around his body as he was currently heading towards the market as he had his shopping list. Once he got to the marketsquare, he immediately started to find the items he needed. While he was shopping, he managed to run into some ponies.

"Okay, need 8 carrots. 2 eggs. A cartoon of milk."

"Hey, Spike!" shouted several voices.

"Oh, hey girls." said Spike as the ponies that were addressing him were none other than the CMC. "So what are you little fillies doing here?"

"Well, we're looking for Isaac. We were hoping to get another lesson in Duel Monsters." said Sweetie Belle.

"Yeah, I can't wait to see what Isaac is going to teach us." said Scootaloo.

"Well, sorry but Isaac isn't here." said Spike.

"Come again, partner?" asked Applebloom as she raised her eyebrow.

"Didn't Applejack tell you? She along with Isaac and Sunset headed to Appaloosa to help Braeburn. Apparently, there's been some trouble that needs their attention." stated Spike.

"Well, ah was with Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo this morning. Guess Applejack forgot to tell me." said Applebloom. "But you know what that means, girls?"

"Seems like Isaac won't be able to give us a lesson till he gets back." said Sweetie Belle as she put her head down.

"More like never, based on what Applejack described the problem, it seems like this might be their final mission before they head home." mentioned Spike.

"Great. Guess we'll never have another lesson." said Scootaloo as she too put her head down and the three little fillies began to walk away.

"Hey don't sweat it. I'm sure he'll be back and give you all one final lesson before he leaves. Besides, I was hoping to get one final lesson from him as well." stated the little drake. "Why don't you come over, that way we can talk about all the things Isaac has each taught us?" suggest Spike.

So all four of them all made their way back to the castle as Spike dropped off his groceries and put them in the kitchen. They all then entered the map room as they all took a seat and began to talk. They each began to talk about what Isaac each taught them as they all had different pieces of info given to them by the colt. Spike then went to fetch the spare deck that Isaac had made with the spare cards he had brought with him. Granted it wasn't much but it did serve its purpose of teaching the others about the game. So for the next couple of hours, all four of them took turns using the model deck as a way to entertain themselves.

"You know, while these Duel Monsters have been giving us some problems, it's nice to see how fun this game could be." said Scootaloo as she played a card.

"Totally. Despite being held hostage at one point, I can see why Isaac is in love with this game." stated Sweetie Belle as she looked at the cards on the table.

"No doubt. I can only assume that he'll be a great duelist back in his home." suggested Applebloom.

"Regardless, I'm going to miss having Isaac around." said Spike. "It was nice having another male to talk to, plus we found a way for us to bond. Now, I'll summon this monster and attack your last line of defense." said Spike as he was named the winner.

"Rats!" said Scootaloo as she hated that she lost.

"So with that the score is now tied, we each got 2 wins and 2 loses." said Applebloom.

Just as they were about to begin the next game, there was a noise that went off as they could see a dust cloud from the window. The four of them then rushed out of the doors to see what caused the problem.

"Who's bright idea was it to have me fall out of the sky?" said the voice which happened to be Ancient Brain.

"What's that?" asked Scootaloo as she couldn't figure out what she was seeing.

"You all, know where I can find a certain pony. Wields the Dark Magician and is annoying." asked Ancient Brain.

"What do you want with him?" asked Sweetie Belle.

"Well, I was told by my master that he'd be here. Something about attacking his headquarters." rambled Ancient Brain.

"Well, he's not here." shouted Applebloom.

"Bummer, oh well, at least I found out where he's stationed. Now to report back."

"You really think we're going to let that happen?" stated Spike.

"Yes?" replied Ancient Brain.

Spike just rolled his eyes as he couldn't believe how dense the creature was. "You do know that we can't let you do. Since you're working for the enemy, it means we have to take you out."

"And how will you do that?"

"Uh, a duel?" suggested Applebloom.

"Do you all even know how to play?" asked Ancient Brain.

"A little." said all four of them.

"I'm surrounded by idiots." said Ancient Brain as he facepalmed himself. "Very well, I'll take you up on your suggestion. So who's going to be the one?"

"Uh, give us a second." said Sweetie Belle as she pulled the four of them into a group huddle. "So... who's going?"

"I thought you were." said Spike.

"I thought Applebloom." said Sweetie Belle.

"Scootaloo was mah pick."

"Well, I'm not doing it." replied the pegasus filly.

"Somepony better." stated Sweetie Belle.

After a few moments, the group determined the best way was to draw straws and whoever drew the short one would be elected. So they all did that and it seemed that the lucky one to duel would be Spike as he put his head down and was a bit scared. Sure he'd seen and taken lessons from Isaac, but then again he wasn't on the same level as the stallion. Not to mention that they only had the one backup deck that Isaac made for everypony to practice, which based on how it worked didn't seem to be much viable. Regardless, it was better than nothing as he held it in his claws.

"Now then, let's begin." Ancient Brain then snapped his fingers as he made a pair of duel disk appear for both him and the drake. "I pray you know what you're doing."

"I hope so too." said Spike as she grabbed the duel disk and put it on his tiny arm as it fitted perfectly. He then slotted in the deck as he his position. "Now then it's time... Oh wait, I can't say it. That's Isaac's line."

"Opponent detected. Streaming data. Duel mode set. Initiating. Commencing duel." said the duel disks.

Ancient Brain's Life Points: 8000-

Spike's Life Points: 8000-

"I'll let you make the first move, you'll need it." said Ancient Brain.

Turn 1: Spike

Spike then drew his card. "First, I'll place one card facedown! Then I'll place a monster in defense mode and end my turn."

Turn 2: Ancient Brain

"Come, now. That's the best move you could come up with... then I've already won." said Ancient Brain as he drew his card. "Now then, meet my DoomCailber Knight(1900/1800). And say farewell to your facedown monster." stated Ancient Brain as he gave his monster its order to strike down Spike's facedown.

"You triggered my monster's special effect!" shouted Spike. "His name is Marshmallon and when he's attacked, you lose 1000 life points." said Spike.
Ancient Brain's Life Points: 7000-

"And as an added bonus, he can't be destroyed in battle!"

"Is that a monster or a dessert topping?" mocked Ancient Brain. "I place one card facedown and end my turn."

Turn 3: Spike

"My turn, first I'll place this facedown. Then I'll summon Silent Swordsman LV0(1000/1000) in attack mode!" Out came a tiny swordsman as he wielded a smaller sword.

"First, that Marshmallon thing and now this?" asked Sweetie Belle.

"What kind of freak-deck is Spike playing with?" stated Scootaloo.

"Apparently the deck that Isaac made with his spare cards so that he could teach the others the mechanics of the game." informed Applebloom as she too was stunned by the cards that Isaac put together for that model deck.

What's that pip-squeak planning? He just played 2 weak monsters in a row. But why?

"Reveal facedown card... Marshmallon Glasses!" shouted Spike. "And I'll place them on your knight. Now the only monster it can attack is Marshmallon!"

"But that runt can't be destroyed!" stated Ancient Brain.

"And my life points are safe too!" said Spike as he ended his turn.

Turn 4: Ancient Brain

"Only if he remains in defense mode!" snickered Ancient Brain. "Which he won't... now I activate Negate Defense! Switching your gelatin mold into attack mode. Next I'll have my knight attack your Marshmallon." said Ancient Brain as his monster brought a downward slash at Isaac's monster as it bounced for a bit as Spike took some serious damage.
Spike's Life Points: 6400-

"What was that about your life points being safe?!" snickered Ancient Brain. "Next, I'll place one card facedown."

Turn 5: Spike

"It's my move... which means my Silent Swordsman grows from a Level zero monster to a Level one!" said Spike as his monster got a bit taller and stronger. "Now, for my next move..."

"Hold on!" shouted Ancient Brain. "I'm afraid you've just triggered my trap! Call of the Earthbound! And I'll use it on that Swordsman! Now that worthless warrior of yours will be forced to engaged in battle with any monster on the playing field that I see fit. However, that's not my only trap! I now chain my Zoma the Spirit(1800/500) trap card. Let the battle begin!" stated Ancient Brain as Spike's monster was now forced to attack and destroyed it.

"Now when Zoma is attacked, it transforms! And this new and improved version of my beast has the ability to strike back. attacking your life points directly with twice the strength of your Swordsman." stated Ancient Brain as his spirit was now heading towards Spike.

"Spike?!" called out the CMC.

Soon the spirit disappeared as Spike was safe.

"But how?" asked Ancient Brain.

"I activated my Turn Jump magic card, that's all!" said Spike.

"What on earth is that?" asked Ancient Brain as he and the CMC were confused by Spike's card.

"It allowed me to negate the attack of your spirit monster by skipping right over the battle phase of this turn." stated Spike. Thank goodness, I paid attention to when Isaac showed me how to use this card. "But wait, that's not all it did!" said Spike as his swordsman now grew 3 more levels and got stronger.

"It can't be!"

"I'm afraid it's true! My Silent Swordsman just jumped to Level 4!"

"It has 3000 points?!" said Ancient Brain in shock.

"That's right! Now, Silent Swordsman, attack!" said Spike as he gave his monster its command as it took out Ancient Brain's knight.
Ancient Brain's Life Points: 5900-

"One more. Marshmallon, attack!" said Spike as his second monster took a bite at Ancient Brain.
Ancient Brain's Life Points: 5600-

"Easy, boy." said Spike as he got his monster to calm down and ended his turn.

"Nice, you want s'more?" joked Scootaloo as the others just rolled their eyes for her making such a lame pun/joke.

Turn 6: Ancient Brain

"That little runt has no idea what I have in store for him. It's my move now!" said Ancient Brain as he drew his card. "And I'll start by activating this magic card! Spirit Sword of Stealing! This allows me to choose any one of your monsters currently in play and instantly remove it from the field!" said Ancient Brain as a sword stuck Spike's monster in its card form as it was pinned against one of the castle walls.

"Not my Silent Swordsman!"

"Yes and I'm afraid you can't rescue him using any card effects! Nor can your swordsman use its own abilities! And that's just the beginning of my comeback for now I summon my Disgraced Mage(1700/1400) in attack mode! Now my mage attack with Doom Staff-Strike!" said Ancient Brain as his monster took out even more of Spike's life points.
Spike's Life Points: 5000-

"Don't you know by now that my monster can't be destroyed in battle!?" stated Spike.

"Yes and what a shame. However, it was your mistake because had your pink mucus monster gone to the graveyard, your captive swordsman would have been set free!"

"Huh?" said Spike and the CMC.

"You see any monster imprisoned by the Spirit Sword of Seal is automatically released when another monster belonging to the cardholder is destroyed. Too bad. But it seems the special ability of your Marshmallon actually backfired this time!" snickered Ancient Brain. "That's enough damage for one turn."

Turn 7: Spike

"Then here I go! Now... I summon Blocken(100/300) in defense mode!"

"But that thing only has 300 points. What's Spike thinking?" asked Scootaloo.

"That ends my turn." said Spike.

Turn 8: Ancient Brain

"So... just when I thought your deck of miniature misfits couldn't possibly get any worse... you play that. Now I'm questioning who really put together that deck and what they were thinking?"

"I'll have you know that this deck was made by one of my friends and he knew exactly what he was doing when he put it together." said Spike. At least, I hope.

"Now... let's turn up the heat, shall we!?" said Ancient Brain as he drew his card. "Alright Disgraced Mage... roast that Marshmallon on your stick!" With that his monster then leaped into action as it looked to strike.

"I now activate Blocken's ability, when one of my monsters is under attack, Blocken steps in and takes the hit!" said Spike as his monster took the attack and was destroyed.

"Awesome! Now that a monster was sent to Spike's graveyard, Spirit Sword is deactivated!" said Applebloom.

"As usual you ponies have no clue! Whenever my Disgraced Mage defeats another monster in battle, that monster goes back to the player's deck. In other words, your swordsman is still trapped!"

"Still thanks to Blocken's special ability, I'm not done yet! Cause whenever it's destroyed in battle, I'm able to summon a monster known as Lengard(300/100) to take its place." said Spike as he replaced his monster with another.

"You're kidding me! That's the worst deck, I've ever seen. You expect me to believe your friend made that prototype deck, all your monsters are weak. Your Silent Swordsman was your best bet and now you can't even use it." laughed Ancient Brain.

He's kinda right, I mean what was Isaac thinking when he made this deck. Sure it helped me and the rest of the girls to understand how to play the game, but in terms of power, I'm severally lacking in it.

"I place three cards facedown. That ends my turn!"

Turn 9: Spike

"My turn, now Marshmallon attack his Disgraced Mage!" said Spike as he gave his monster its command. Soon they collided but Spike's life points remained the same.

"No! What have you done?" asked Ancient Brain.

"I activated my Lenguard's effect. Whenever one of my monsters is damaged, the result is automatically transferred to Lengard! So my life points are safe!" said Spike as his monster was destroyed. "And now that one of my monsters was sent to the graveyard, the special effect of your sword is over! And my Silent Swordsman is free!" said Spike as the sword was removed from the card as his monster appeared back onto the field.

"So that was Spike's plan all along." said Sweetie Belle.

"Now Silent Swordsman destroy his mage with Silent Sword Slash Attack!" said Spike as his warrior took out its target. However, Ancient Brain didn't lose life points.

"Huh? His life points didn't budge?" stated Scootaloo.

"How observant of you! You're not the only one whose monsters have special effects. My Disgraced Mage came complete with a little lifesaving trick of his own! Whenever it's destroyed, I can avoid losing life points by returning my entire hand to my deck!"

I need to stay focus and never give up no matter what! And if Isaac were here, he'd say the same thing.

Turn 10: Ancient Brain

"Now... I'll start by activating Pot of Greed, which lets me draw 2 more cards from my deck. Next I reveal my facedown card. The Cursed Twin Dolls!" said Ancient Brain as two mannequins appeared with one holding a red box and the other holding a black box. "As you can see, each one of these two precious playmates is carrying a gift box. One of which contains a curse! Now which gift are you going to choose!?"

I guess I've got a fifty/fifty shot of getting this right... so here goes!"Alright... I'll take the red one!"

"Then the black box goes to me." said Ancient Brain. "Let's begin with the contents of yours." The gift then opened as it started to surround Spike but it didn't cause him any harm. "It appears you've chosen wisely. Now everytime a card is sent to the graveyard, you shall receive 200 extra life points."

"Way ta pick 'em, Spike!" cheered Applebloom.

"Alright... time to see what's in your box."

"He, he. I told you. It's a curse. And as soon as this curse is released, my graveyard will be no more."

"What? But how can you duel without a graveyard!?" asked Spike. Soon the spirits of Ancient Brain's monsters appeared. "Hey! Those monsters have been destroyed!"

"Right you are! And since I no longer have a graveyard, they've returned to the field as phantoms!" said Ancient Brain. "Not to worry. Though they're on the field, these phantom creatures can't attack or defend. In other words, they're of no threat to you... yet! Lastly, I'll play my Necro Soldier(0/0) in defense mode!"

He's up to something... but what!?

"Now that my twins are finished, why don't you go?"

Turn 11: Spike

"I was hoping you would say that." said Spike as he drew his card.

"Not so fast. I'm afraid you've just triggered the special effect of my Necro Soldier. As long as he remains on the field, everytime your turn begins, my Necro Army increases by one... and since this ability applies to my new soldier as well, I now have an army of 3." said Ancient Brain as he had 3 Necro Soldiers on his field. "As you were."

"How's Spike supposed to beat an army of little zombie freaks?" said Sweetie Belle.

Actually, it shouldn't be too hard since each of his monsters has zero points. "Here goes, first my Silent Swordsman jumps to Level 5 with 3500 points, but that's just the beginning. To accompany my Silent Swordsman, I'll summon my Silent Magician LV0(1000/1000)." Out came a tiny magician as he was about the same height as Marshmallon. "Now Marshmallon, Silent Magician, and Silent Swordsman attack all 3 of his Necro Soldiers." shouted Spike as his monsters did just that. Silent Swordsman was about to take out its target when it stopped its sword from connecting.

"No way! But why did my Swordsman stop? It doesn't make any sense."

"Of course it does. I played my Narrow Corridor trap card."

"Yeah, and what does dat do?" asked Applebloom.

"This handy trap card prevents your friend from attacking with more than 2 monsters in any given turn, and might I remind you, my graveyard is gone. So the soldiers you just destroyed shall return to the field as spirits. I hope you don't mind if my phantom monsters stick around to watch me win." said Ancient Brain.

What I want to know is, what's he planning on to do with all of those monsters?

Turn 12: Ancient Brain

"I'll take over from here." said Ancient Brain as he drew his card.

"Oh, did I mention my magician's ability? When you draw, he jumps up one level and gains 500 points." said Spike as his kid magician got a bit taller and powerful.

"Should I be impressed?" mocked Ancient Brain. "The time has come to reveal my true strategy."

"True strategy?" said Spike with a slight bit of worry.

"Yes. Is there an echo in here? Behold my Counterbalance magic card."

"What does that do?" asked Spike as he never heard about this card from Isaac.

"As long as this card remains on the field, each of us must transfer a certain number of cards from our deck to the graveyard at the end of our turn. How many, you ask? You must discard as many cards as there are on the field. Of course, that includes my phantom monsters."

"Oh, no way. Then we'd be throwing out practically our entire deck. But why would you play a card that also puts you at risk, too?" asked Spike. "It doesn't make any sense."

"To work, it requires a graveyard, and I don't have one. Guess that means I can't participate." snickered Ancient Brain.

"So that was your plan. You wanted to force me to get rid of my cards."

"Aw man, Spike's only got a few turns left." said Applebloom.

"And it only gets worse, for now I summon another monster to the field-- Necro Mannequin(500/500). But that's not all. Next, I activate the trap card Necro Cycle. As long as my Mannequin remains on the field, this trap allows me to automatically summon another one each turn."

"Look at all those monsters." said Scootaloo.

"And just think, each one represents a card you're going to lose. And all the fun begins in your next turn." said Ancient Brain as he ended his turn. "Remember, you lose a card for every monster on the field, and so far, there are 10."

Turn 13: Spike

"Oh, yeah? Not for long." said Spike as he drew his card. "First, my Silent Swordsman increases one level and 500 points."

"Hold on. Your monsters aren't the only ones who can do tricks. Necro Mannequin, show that runt your newest talent." said Ancient Brain as one of his mannequins produced a second one. "Now there's a total of 11 monsters on the field."

"How's Spike suppose to get rid of all of those monsters?" asked Scootaloo.

"I mean, didn't that monster play some card that limits Spike's attacks or something?" stated Sweetie Belle.

"Right you are. Narrow Corridor, to be exact, and it limits his attacks to just 2 attacks per turn. Plus, thanks to my Necro Twins, whatever monster he destroys will return to the field as phantoms." said Ancient Brain.

"First, my swordsman will attack your Necro Soldier with Silent Sword Slash. And then I'm sending my Silent Magician to destroy your Necro Mannequin. Now go." said Spike as his monsters took out their targets.

"Not bad, but your turn is over, and you know what that means. 11 cards go to your graveyard." informed Ancient Brain as Spike took a huge portion of his deck and sent it off. "Now if my math is correct, that leaves you with at least 17 cards in your deck, and once they're all gone, it's game over. However, my twins will make sure your turn doesn't end on a sour note by giving you 2200 extra life points."
Spike's Life Points: 7200-

"Sounds good to me."

Turn 14: Ancient Brain

"And why are you so chipper?" asked Ancient Brain as he drew his card.

"Well, for one, my magician got stronger." stated Spike.

"It's going to take much more than that to save you now. I now play Necro Wall(0/0) in defense mode. This lets me increase my monster army by adding Necro Wall tokens equal to the number of zombies on my field other than my Necro Wall, which gives me two extra monsters." said Ancient Brain as his field was now full. "That gives me a grand total of 14. Now make your final move."

Turn 15: Spike

"This duel isn't over yet. First, my Silent Swordsman gets a boost." said Spike as his monster was now Level 7 and had 4500 attack points. "Now get ready for another double attack. Silent Swordsman attack his Wall Token #1 and, Silent Magician, attack Wall Token #2." Spike's two monster then leaped into action as they took out their targets.

"Impressive. Unfortunately, since you've used up your two-attack limit, you're turn is over." stated Ancient Brain.

"That may be true, but I can still activate my Aria From Beyond magic card. It allows me to choose any magic card that has already been removed from the game and re-activate it. And I choose one of yours-- Spirit Sword of Sealing-- and I'm using it to imprison one of my own monsters-- my Silent Swordsman." said Spike as the sword made contact with his card and stuck it back onto the wall of the castle behind him.

"Is it me, or did he just harpoon one of his best cards?" asked Scootaloo.

"That's so weird. His opponent has a field full of monsters, and Spike targets one of his own?" said Sweetie Belle as she to was confused by Spike's choice.

"That ends my turn." said Spike.

"Glad to hear it. Now then, discard 11 cards." demanded Ancient Brain as Spike did just that. "You may gain a few life points, but you lose most of your deck."
Spike's Life Points: 9400-

Turn 16: Ancient Brain

"Just one more turn, and all of your cards will be gone... and victory will be mine." said Ancient Brain as he drew his card and Spike's Silent Magician gained another level and got stronger. "I'll now summon my Necro Jar(1100/800) in attack mode. Now attack his Silent Magician."

"But why?" said Applebloom.

"Yeah, isn't Spike's monster stronger?" said Sweetie Belle.

Spike's monster was able to repel the attack as it destroyed Necro Jar. "You just gave up some life points. Why would you do that?"
Ancient Brain's Life Points: 4200-

"Good question. It was all part of my master plan. You see, thanks to my Necro Jar, you must discard one card for every 300 points I just lost, and since my damage was 1400, you lose 4 cards from your deck." shouted Ancient Brain. "Soo off to the graveyard, they go."

"Wait a second. Dat's gonna leave Spike with only one card left." said Applebloom. Spike then sent 4 cards to the grave as he got more life points.
Spike's Life Points: 10,200-

"And so the end is here-- now let's review, shall we? 12 monsters remain on the field, and you only have one card left in your deck, and as we all know, when you run out of cards, you lose." informed Ancient Brain.

Turn 17: Spike

"I have one card left, and that's all I need." said Spike as he drew his last and final card of his deck.

"What do you expect with one card?" mocked Ancient Brain.

Spike looked at his card and had a smile on his face. "I sacrifice my Silent Magician and Marshmallon so I can summon this-- Gandora the Dragon of Destruction!!!" shouted Spike as his two monster disappeared as he played his monster on his card tray as a bright light appeared. Spike's mighty dragon let out a huge roar as it descended on the field and towered over the little drake. "The game isn't over till the last card is played, and my last card is the one with the power to beat you."

"But how? I have a field full of monsters and you only have one." said Ancient Brain.

"Gandora, activate your special ability-- Boundless Gigarays!!!" yelled out Spike as his dragon unleashed multiple rays from its body and as it decimated Ancient Brain's entire field.

"Ahh! Ahh! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" shouted Ancient Brain as he saw his entire field be wiped out like that in a blinding white light. "My monster may be gone, but my life points aren't!"

"After my Gandora strikes... it goes to the graveyard." said Spike as his dragon was no more. "And as I'm sure you know, when one of my monsters is destroyed, your Sword of Sealing is deactivated! So my Silent Swordsman is free!" said Spike as his final monster appeared.

"4500 attack points?!" said Ancient Brain.

"More than enough to wipe you out! Now, Swordsman, attack!" said Spike as he thrusted his arm out. His monster dashed forward and with the slice of his sword granted the little drake the win.

"Uhh... Ahh!" yelled out Ancient Brain as he was defeated and turned into particles.
Ancient Brain's Life Points: 0-

Winner: Spike

The duel ended as the duel disk on Spike's arm disappeared as the cards were left scattered on the floor. He then picked them up and put them together as the CMC came running to his side as they cheered their friend for winning.

"Nice one, Spike." said Sweetie Belle as she gave him a hug.

"Ah knew you were the right dragon for the job." said Applebloom.

"Wait till Isaac hears about this." said Scootaloo.

"I guess, Isaac really knew what he was doing when he put this deck together. It may taken me a while, but I now know what he means by trusting your deck and knowing that no card is worthless. As long as you can come up with a good plan." said the little drake as he began to walk with the CMC back to the castle.

They entered and found Twilight frantically looking for him as she heard a loud roar and wanted to check up on him. Spike just simply said he hadn't heard anything and that he was with the CMC. The girls all backed up their dragon friend as they just explained they were practicing with Isaac's cards. Twilight just stood there rubbing her head as she couldn't figure out their hidden meaning. Soon nighttime had fallen upon Ponyville as everypony was getting ready for bed. Spike had just changed into his PJs as he was walking to his room when he noticed the main door open and in came Isaac and Applejack.

"Oh, Isaac you're back. You won't believe what..."

Isaac just walked past the little dragon as he didn't bother listening to him. Isaac had his head down as the sniffles from his eyes could be heard as he made his way to his room. Spike was stunned by what he saw as Isaac never acted like this, he then turned towards Applejack who also watched their friend disappear.

"Applejack? What was that about?" he said as she looked at the orange mare. "And where's Sunset?"

"Sugarcube, Sunset... was taken. And she's now under the control of someone." informed the country mare as it caused Spike to fall to his knees as he let that sentence sink in.
