Chapter 141: Opening Round

The days flew by as both the girls and the students were hard at work practicing and preparing for the tournament. Soon it was the night before Friday as everybody was fast asleep. All the girls had went to bed as tomorrow the entire school day would be dedicated to the first rounds, so the whole school was grateful that because of the tournament, there would be no school. However, everybody was expected to follow the school rules or risk getting in trouble with Vice-principal Luna. The duels would be taking place out in the fields where the Friendship Games were held as Celestia and Luna had spent the past days setting everything up and checking with the teams and engineers making sure that everything worked.

Meanwhile there was one individual who was still awake. Isaac was currently in the living room as he had a small lamp turned on that allow a minimum light so that he wouldn't wake up the girls on the bottom floor. Isaac had his deck and cards scattered in front of him as he sat on the couch in a thinking position as he had his eyes closed. He then lifted his head and saw his magician cards as they were in front of him.

"It's about time." said Isaac.

All the time, all the money he spent, everything that the girls had been doing with the students up to this point was about to be on full display. Granted the kids had only been studying under the girls for just about a month or so, but to Isaac that was enough to see just who was taking this seriously and who he would be cut from the program if it came to that decision. Nevertheless, it wasn't just the students that were getting evaluated, but also the girls. Isaac had faith that they could teach them, but he had to prepare for the worst. Regardless, Isaac would be critiquing everybody as it was his duty as headmaster and founder of this little experiment. He then looked at his watch and saw that it was about 3 in the morning as the sun would soon be up in about 2 hours or so.

"Well, best get some sleep. I've got so much left to finish and not a lot of time left." said Isaac as he knew his future was fast approaching as well as his destiny. He then turned off the lamp and grabbed his cards as he quietly made his upstairs to not disturb the others sleeping as he entered his room.

The morning rose as everybody at school was excited for the tournament that was about to start. The girls all had awoken as they let out a yawn. They each got ready as they changed into their clothes and all exited out of their rooms at the same time. At that moment, a smell came from the kitchen as the girls all followed it and were welcomed to the sight of a feast of breakfast foods. It took all the girls combined to keep Pinkie from wolfing it down right then and there, as she couldn't contain herself. There was even a note that was left on the plate of waffles as Applejack picked it up and read it aloud for the others. It was from Isaac who said that he had to leave very early for school to go over some last minute things and that he had some business to take care of before the tournament started. So he made the girls breakfast so they could feel energized since they had a big day. The girls were upset that Isaac wouldn't join them on such a momentous occasion, but nevertheless they sat down to enjoy the hard work that Isaac put in creating them breakfast.

"Alright. Is there anything else?" asked Isaac as he was the on the phone.

"Isaac? Are you ready?" asked Luna who knocked on the door and peaked her head in.

"Just about Luna." responded Isaac. Luna nodded as she closed the door and let Isaac continue with his call.

"Anyways, so... you won't know when you'll be available?"

"That's right. Sorry, bud." said the person on the other end of the call. "Anyways, I heard what you're doing. Starting that program, I only wish the best for you. Especially one you graduate and are on your way to becoming a pro."

"I appreciate it, man. My only concern is, do I have enough time to finish what I need to do here at CHS before I leave? It feels like it's slipping away." said Isaac.

"Look, focus on this tournament. And don't worry too much about how time you have left. Enjoy your last year, cause it'll be over before you know it. Trust me."

"I'll try. And hey, thanks. Take care, bud."

"See ya, Isaac." said the person as the call ended.

"I guess he's right. Still I can't help but not think of the future." said Isaac as he looked at his phone. "Well, he said I should focus on this tournament. Better get to it." Isaac then grabbed his tablet device on the table and strapped it to his arm as it extended to become his duel disk.

Everybody had gathered out on the field as they were taking their seats in the stands as they prepared for a full day of dueling. The girls all arrived together and took in the sight before them as their fellow classmates were cheering them, the entire field was rigged up to look like the Friendship Games as there was tons of screens and cameras that would be broadcasting the duels.

"Woah. Didn't expect this level of investment?" said Lucky Star as she took in the sight of the field in front of her.

"When Isaac says he goes big, he goes big." said Bryant as he was amazed by how many people would be watching their duels.

"There you guys are." said Isaac as he approached the group. "So, what do you think?"

"To be honest, I didn't know what to expect." said Shadow.

"Though, this many people are going to be watching?" asked Penny.

"Yup, and they'll be broadcasting it too. I told you this is going to be the first big experience you all have. Oh, and I have something for you all." said Isaac as he pulled out somethings from behind back.

Isaac then presented the group with a present of sorts. In his hands were rectangular devices that were similar to what he and the rest of the girls had.

“Duel disk online.” said the mechanical voices.

"You're kidding?" said Jason as he received one of the devices.

"Is this..." started Amber.

"Put your decks in." said Isaac as they all did what he said and slotted in their decks.

The mechanical voice from the disks droned to life as the disk lit up. The students' deck shuffled themselves as the touchscreen projected holograms into the air, a ring of the cards in their decks rotated in front of them. On the front end of the disk, the holographic emitter slid open and projected a field of hard light energy around it, forming a curved card tray light. Each student had their own color: Shadow had a dark blue card tray, Amber had an amber color tray to match her name, Penny received a black card tray, Bryant going with burgundy color, Lucky Star's card tray consisted of emerald light, Jack was given a bright purple card tray, and Jason was given a white color tray.

"So, how do you like them?" asked Isaac.

"I'm in love with it." said Jack.

"Good, cause from this point on. They're yours; you've earned it. Now, can you keep them? I gave this to you all as gift, but it didn't come cheap. You have to show me why you deserve these duel disks and if you don't show the proper respect or slack off, then I'll gladly take them away from you. Am I understood!" shouted Isaac.

"Yes, sir." responded the students.

"Good, now get ready. We'll start soon." said Isaac as he left the group as he made his way to the girls.

"So, you guys ready to show these newbies what we can do?" asked Rainbow Dash with a boastful tone.

"That's assuming they don't embarrass you. Though you might be an easy one, Dash." said Isaac as he appeared in front of his friends.

"Screw you, Isaac." shouted Rainbow.

"You know you want to." responded Isaac with a remark that cause Rainbow to turn her head as she was blushing from Isaac's comment. Isaac and the others just let out a laugh at Rainbow's behavior.

"Now that we've had our daily laugh, are the kids ready?" asked Sunset.

"Yup, even gave them their new duel disks. Now they can go toe to toe with you girls. Now the time has come, but first we need to take of something. Since both groups are made up of 7 people, in total there are 14 people competing. So the way the brackets were going to be structured, it means 2 people will get a bye into the next round. So to be fair, I'm going to give one to each of the group." said Isaac.

"Easy, not that I need the help. But I'll take it." said Rainbow.

"You ain't getting shit!" shouted Isaac. "I'm being fair in who gets the bye into the next round. Plus, I never pegged you to be chicken in turning down a duel."

"I hate you, you know!" said Rainbow as she got up in Isaac's face.

"But you love me still." said Isaac as he smirked and snuck a quick peck on her cheek as Rainbow turned even more red. "Now then, Applejack. Your hat."

"Sure thing, sugar." Applejack then took her hat off of her head as she gave it to Isaac.

"At least it doesn't smell bad as the one time we had to use your boot to draw names." said Isaac.

"You mean my 'lucky boot'." said Applejack as she wiggled her eyebrows at Isaac.

"Trust me, I can still smell it." Isaac then got that thought out of his mind as she placed some straws into the hat and gave it a good shuffling. "Now whoever draws the short end is the one who gets the bye." Isaac then put the hat in front of the girls as they all reached into the hat and pulled out their straws. They each then began to show their pick as the person who had drawn the short straw was Twilight. "Alright, looks like Twilight is the lucky one."

"Favoritism." said Rainbow as she was pissed.

"What was that, Dash!!!" shouted Isaac as he overheard that remark.

"Nothing!" said Rainbow as she put on a fake smile while clenching her fists.

Isaac then gave Applejack her hat back as he told them to meet in the center of the field as he went to do the same thing with the students. From that group, it seemed that Penny was the one who would receive the bye. Soon they all too joined the rest of their tutors in the middle of the field as they looked in front of them as both Principal Celestia and Vice-Principal Luna had gathered in front of them as they stood on the podium with a microphone.

"Greetings, everybody. I hope you all have a wonderful time. Today, we shall see some epic duels that are sure to catch your attention." said Celestia to which the crowd cheered at her remark.

"To those that stand before us, know that this is an honor to compete. And remember what each of you is fighting for, to not only become the winner of this tournament. But the victor shall challenge Canterlot High's duel champion at the upcoming Fall Formal in just under a few weeks." stated Luna. "So I advise that you give it your all and leave everything you have on the battlefield. Now give a warm welcome to the current champion of CHS, the person responsible for this tournament to happen in the first place. None other than... Isaac!!!" shouted Luna.

Luna was pointing to the sidelines as there was a podium that was set up with a throne chair on top of it. A spotlight was then shined down as it revealed Isaac standing there with his hand in his pocket as he dueling arm was raised. His duel disk projected his card tray and he had a smile on his face.

"Know that you all have been selected for a reason. To show everybody here what you already know, that you're a duelist. But are you truly worthy of holding that name? Well, that remains to be seen. Cause to whoever wins this, know that the battle has only just ended and the war that awaits you will be like no other." said Isaac. "Now let the tournament... begin!!" shouted Isaac as the crowd cheered and a couple of fireworks and pyro went off to signal the start of the event.

"Now as you know, given the number of participants, we've had to change some matchups. So the two people who have been chosen at random to receive a bye into the next round are Twilight and Penny. So that leaves 12 competitors to fight for a spot in the quarterfinal rounds. So now let's find out who will be facing off in the opening round." Isaac then pointed to the screen behind him as the portraits of the remaining 12 duelist appeared and they began to flash quickly as the computer was generating the participants to determine the matchup. Soon it slowly down as two portraits were selected.

"Well, now. This is unexpected." said Isaac. "The first duel shall consist of Shadow Moonrise and he'll be taking on... Sunset Shimmer!"

Everybody was shocked to see the pair that would kick off the tournament. Soon Isaac told everyone to get of the field as the duelists that were selected had 2 minutes to prep and get ready before their match. The girls and the students wished both Shadow and Sunset the best of luck as they made their way to the field. Shadow on took his position as he faced Sunset, they both quickly looked in the direction of Isaac as he sat down on his throne.

"Hurry up, cat!" shouted Spike. "They're about to start!"

"Meow!" stated Tigre as she hurried over to the living room area and jumped on the couch next to her friend as both had several pet snacks all laid out as they prepared to watch the tournament. "Meow."

"Don't worry, I'm putting up the volume." said Spike as he used his paw to put some more sound on the TV.

"Well, good luck Shadow." said Sunset as she extended her hand to the boy.

"Same to you." responded Shadow as he shook her hand.

Both of them then began to take their positions as they slotted in their duel disks as it began to come online. Sunset's duel disk projected a red card tray while Shadow's projected a dark blue. Soon their decks were done shuffling as they drew their cards.

"Now... begin!!" shouted Luna.

"Opponent detected. Streaming data. Duel mode set. Initiating. Commencing duel." said their duel disks.

Sunset's Life Points: 8000-

Shadow's Life Points: 8000-

"Interesting. Shadow who uses his Raidraptors and Sunset who relies on her Red-Eyes deck. Truly something that nobody saw coming, especially to open up the tourney." said Isaac to himself.

Turn 1: Sunset

"I'll start things off." said Sunset as she drew her card. "I'll summon my Red-Eyes Baby Dragon(1200/700) in attack mode. Then I'll end my turn with a facedown. Your move."

Turn 2: Shadow

"Right, here goes." said Shadow as he drew his card and soon all the new functions of his duel disks were active as it showed him some valuable and useful information. "Woah, hi-tech stuff. Now I get why everybody here has these duel disk, they're awesome."

"Hey, you done making with out with your duel disk or what?" said Sunset with a bit of sass.

Sunset's right, gotta focus. Especially with someone like her, she's a tough duelist. So if I want to beat her, I gotta step up my game. "Alright, to start I summon Raidraptor Vanishing Lanius(1300/1600) in defense mode. Then the effect of my Vanishing Lanius activates, which means I can summon another Vanishing Lanius from my hand. By why stop at two when I can have a third Raidraptor, cause since I control a 'Raidraptor', Fuzzy Lanius(500/1500) I can also summon it in defense mode!" said Shadow as he had two more birds appear on his field as they let out a cry.

"Already have 3 monsters on the field? Then I better get ready." said Sunset.

"Now I overlay my 2 Raidraptor Vanishing Lanius and Fuzzy Lanius to build the Overlay Network!" Shadow's monsters then transformed into orbs of light as a portal in the ground opened up. The orbs then combined together and entered the portal as a pillar of light emerged. "From the shadows, the falcon soars on wings of courage, talons ready for the rebellion! I Xyz Summon! Witness the ascent of Raidraptor - Rise Falcon(100/2000, OLU: 3) in defense mode!" Out came a huge bird that had a mechanical look as it let out a piercing screech that caused most of the people in attendance to cover their ears.

"Not bad." said Sunset as she looked at the big bird that was staring at her. "Still, your monster only has 100 attack points."

"Don't be fooled by my raptor's attack points. Now then I'll lay one card facedown and end my turn." (Hand 2)

Turn 3: Sunset

"My turn, stand back." said Sunset as she drew her card. Something's up, why would he summon a monster that only has 100 attack points.

Well, Sunset. How you gonna deal with that Rise Falcon? Isaac placed his hand under his chin as he wanted to see if Sunset could handle Shadow's monster.

"To start, I'll play my Cards of the Red Stone so now I send a Level 7 'Red-Eyes' monster from my hand and one from my deck so that I can draw 2 cards." Sunset then sent her Red-Eyes Alternative Dragon from her hand to the grave as she used her duel screen to send another one from her deck to the graveyard. She then drew her cards as she added them to her hand. "Now I play the spell card, Red-Eyes Fusion so that I can fusion summon using monsters in my deck."

"Did you say fusion summon from your deck?" said Shadow as he never heard of that move before.

"So from my deck, I fuse together my Red-Eyes B. Dragon and my Summoned Skull!" Sunset's two monsters then appeared aside to their mistress as a vortex appeared behind her. Their spirits then combined together as were sucked in as a new monster was being summoned. "I Fusion Summon, Archfiend Black Skull Dragon(3500/2500)!" Sunset now had a powerful monster as it appeared with flames and lightning went off as it gave a hug cry.

"That's a big boy." said Shadow as it was his turn to stare at Sunset's monster.

"Now to feel it's power, Archfiend B. Skull Dragon attack his Raidraptor Rise Falcon." shouted Sunset. "Thanks to my monster's effect, you can't activate any cards or effects until the end of the damage step." Archfiend B. Skull Dragon then opened its mouth and shot a fireball that took out Shadow's monster. "Then my monster's other effect activates, I can now deal you damage equal to the attack points of my Red-Eyes B. Dragon." Sunset's monster than unleashed a devasting attack as it was heading straight for Shadow who tried to put his arms up as he was tossed onto the grass and on his back.
Shadow's Life Points: 5600-

"Now I can shuffle my Red-Eyes B. Dragon back into my deck." said Sunset as she grabbed her card and placed it on top of her deck as the autoshuffler kicked in. "With that I'll end my turn."

"Hold on... I activate my facedown... Rank-Up-Magic- Raptor's Force. Since my monster was destroyed, I can bring it back and then I can be able to Xyz Summon a monster using it that's 1 rank higher." said Shadow.

"You can do that?!" said Sunset in a calm tone.

Not bad, but you still have yet to fully learn how to use your Rank-Up cards properly, Shadow. Only time will tell. Isaac looked on from his throne as he made sure to make mental notes for later.

"So my Rise Falcon is back, but then I'll use it to Xyz Summon." Shadow's monster then appeared and was soon transformed into a single orb as a portal opened in front of him as it disappeared into it and a pillar of light emerged. "Go, Rank-Up Xyz Evolution! I Xyz Summon, Raidraptor - Stranger Falcon(2000/2000, OLU: 1)!" Shadow now had another monster on his field as it let out cry as a single orb circled it.

"Alright, I'm impressed kid. So then show me what you got." said Sunset.

Turn 4: Shadow

"With pleasure, hot stuff. Now watch out." said Shadow as he drew his card with a determined look. "Now since I control an 'Xyz' monster, I can special summon my Raidraptor - Singing Lanius(100/1800) from my hand in defense mode. Then I summon my Raidraptor - Sharp Lanius(1700/1000) in attack mode. Next, I play the spell card, Raidraptor - Sanctuary, since I control 3 'Raidraptors', I can draw 2 cards." said Shadow as he picked up some more cards. "Now time to return the favor, I activate Stranger Falcon's special ability, by using its overlay unit, I can target one monster you control and destroy it. So your archfiend is gone."

Sunset then looked at her monster as it let out a cry as it exploded with her putting her arm up to cover herself.

"And there's more, cause now you take damage equal to your monster's attack points." said Shadow as Sunset took a major blow to her life points.
Sunset's Life Points: 4500-

"Now I'll have my Stranger Falcon attack your Red-Eyes Baby Dragon." said Shadow as his monster took out Sunset's monster and dealt her some more damage.
Sunset's Life Points: 3700-

"And then my Sharp Lanius will attack you directly!"

"Not gonna happen, cause when you destroyed my Red-Eyes Baby Dragon, you activated its special ability. Since it was destroyed, I can now special summon 1 Level 7 or lower 'Red-Eyes' monster from my deck, and then I can equip my dragon to give it an extra 300 attack points. So arise, Red-Eyes B. Dragon(2400/2000)!" shouted Sunset as she summoned her signature monster as it let out a cry as her tiny dragon appeared on it shoulder as it gave it more power.

"I'll put the brakes on my attack." said Shadow as he got his monster to stop. "I may not have taken out your monster, but I can do something else. I now activate my Raidraptor - Sharp Lanius' effect, since it attacked this turn, I can bring a 'Raidraptor' monster in my graveyard and I choose my Raidraptor - Rise Falcon!" said Shadow as he now had another monster on his field as it rose in defense mode.

"I'll just throw a facedown and end my turn."

Turn 5: Sunset

"Back to me, so stand back." said Sunset as she drew her card. "I'll now play the ritual spell card, Dark Dragon Ritual. So I send my Gearfried the Red-Eyes Iron Knight to my graveyard so that I can ritual summon my Paladin of Dark Dragon(1900/1200)!" A portal opened up in front of Sunset as a dark being emerged as it was covered in head to toe with black armor as the dragon it was on was also black as it wore dark armor. It then raised its lance high into the air as the dragon let out a cry. "Now time to strike, Paladin take out his Raidraptor Rise Falcon." shouted Sunset as her monster took flight and flew high into the sky.

"My monster has more defense points than your paladin."

"Then let introduce you to paladin's effect, it can automatically destroy a monster in defense mode." said Sunset as her monster took Shadow by surprise and his monster was destroyed. "Now I'll then have my Red-Eyes attack your Raidraptor Stranger Falcon! Inferno Fire Blast!" Sunset's dragon then heard her command as it shot out a fireball that made contact with the bird.
Shadow's Life Points: 4900-

"I'll then end my turn."

Turn 6: Shadow

"My turn, and first up I'll Overlay my Level 4 Raidraptor - Singing Lanius and Sharp Lanius to construct the Overlay Network." Shadow's two birds then changed into dark orbs as a vortex opened in front of him as they were sucked in and a pillar of light emerged. "Avian hunter of the afterlife, seek the truth with your dark eyes, and grasp glory with your sharp talons! I Xyz Summon! Take flight! Raidraptor - Force Strix(100/2000, OLU: 2)!" Out came a bird as it let out a screech as it soared down onto the field. "Now I activate my Force Strix's ability, by using one overlay unit that I can add a Level 4 Dark Winged Beast-type monster from my deck to my hand." Shadow then used his duel disk as he selected the one he wanted.

"Now I summon my Raidraptor - Napalm Dragonius(1000/1000) in defense mode. Then activate its special ability to deal you 600 points of damage." said Shadow as his bird opened its beak and fired a pillar of fire towards Sunset who put her arm up to protect her eyes.
Sunset's Life Points: 3100-

"You always you said were 'hot stuff'." said Shadow.

"That supposed to be your way of flirting with me. Sorry to disappoint you, but I only have eyes for one 'boy toy'." said Sunset as she looked in the direction of Isaac as she gave a quick wink.

"Whatever, now then the other effect of my Force Strix activates and it gains 500 extra attack/defense points for each other Winged Beast-type monster on the field other than itself. So now Force Strix has 2500 defense points. And I'll give it some more power thanks to my equip spell card, Raidraptor - Iron Heart to give 500 more attack points to my Force Strix." said Shadow as he ended his turn and his monster pumped up.

Turn 7: Sunset

"My draw, now time for me to take down that bird of yours. Paladin attack his Raidraptor Force Strix!" stated Sunset as her monster took flight and brought its mighty lance down on the bird. "Paladin automatically destroys your monster."

"Now I'll activate the other effect of my Raidraptor - Iron Heart. When it's sent to the graveyard, I can target 2 'Raidraptor' Xyz monsters in my graveyard and bring one of them back while the other becomes Xyz material attached to it. So arise Rise Falcon and Stranger Falcon." Shadow now had a pair of birds appear before Stranger Falcon turned into an Xyz material as it circled Rise Falcon.

"Interesting play, now then I'll have my Red-Eyes take out your Raidraptor Napalm Dragonius." said Sunset as she took out another bird. "With that, I'll end my turn with a facedown." said Sunset as a card materialized in front of her.

Turn 8: Shadow

"My turn, I draw. Now I play Pot of Greed so that I can draw 2 more cards. Then I'll switch my Rise Falcon into attack mode. Now it's time, Rise Falcon attack!" shouted Shadow as his bird soared high into the sky.

"My monsters are going to swat that pigeon out of the air!" shouted Sunset.

"Now when I activate Rise Falcon's ability, by using one overlay unit it gains the attack points of all your special summoned monsters. So now both of your monster's attack points are added to my Rise Falcon and it can attack each one of them." said Shadow as Rise Falcon's stats rose to 4700.

"4700 attack points?!" said Sunset as her eyes widen as she saw the bird getting ready to strike.

"Now Rise Falcon end this duel! Ravaging Rebellion!!!" shouted Shadow. Rise Falcon let out a screech as it ignited into flames and was covered in fire. It then flew down as the speed of gravity caused the flames to get hotter and bigger as it looked to nuke Sunset's field and finish the remaining of her life points.

"If this attack connects, then Sunset will lose the duel!" shouted Celestia as she and Luna were commentating the duel for everybody watching and in attendance. Everybody else watched on as they looked to see what would happen.

What are you going to do, Sunset? said Isaac in his mind with a calm tone.

"I activate my facedowns." said Sunset as she touched her duel screen and activated them. "First up is my Nutrient Z trap card which allows me to gain 4000 life points whenever I'm about to take 2000 points of damage."
Sunset's Life Points: 7100-

Shadow's falcon then made contact with Sunset's field as it engulfed her monsters in flames as they perished. Sunset stood her ground as she dropped to a knee but still held on.
Sunset's Life Points: 2300-

"Then I'll activate my second facedown, Return of the Red-Eyes so now my dragon back in play." said Sunset as Red-Eyes rose once more. "Now the ability of my Red-Eyes Baby Dragon activates, since it was sent to the graveyard while it was attached to another monster, I can add a Level 1 Dragon monster from my deck or graveyard to my hand." Sunset then used her screen as she looked at her deck and selected the card she wanted as it slid out for her to grab.

"Well, now you managed to survive that. In that case, I'll end my turn. Now my Rise Falcon's points drop to its original." said Shadow as his monster returned back to 100.
Turn 9: Sunset

"Folks that was too close for comfort." said Luna. "If Sunset hadn't activated her Nutrient Z when she did, she would have been defeated."

"But thanks to her quick thinking, Luna. Sunset was able to not only survive the attack but in the process she got a card and summoned her dragon all in one move." stated Celestia as they did their job of commentary.

"My turn, let's go." said Sunset as she drew her card. "To start, I'll play The Black Stone of Legend(0/0) and then tribute it so that I can activate its effect, so now I can special summon one Level 7 'Red-Eyes' monster from my deck. So come forth, my third Red-Eyes Alternative Black Dragon(2400/2000)." shouted Sunset as she now had another one of her monsters appear. "Time to take this to the next level, I overlay both of my Level 7 dragons to build the Overlay Network!" Sunset's monsters than transformed into orbs of light as a portal opened up in front of her. They were sucked in as a pillar of light emerged. "I Xyz Summon, Red-Eyes Metal Flare Dragon(2800/2400), OLU: 2)!" Sunset now had a meaner looking dragon as it let out a roar and landed with a thud.

"You can Xyz summon too, huh?" said Shadow as he was amazed by the monster that Sunset was able to bring out.

"Time for my dragon to strike. Red-Eyes Metal Flare Dragon attack his Rise Falcon. Seek and destroy your dinner!" shouted Sunset.

"I reveal my facedown, Rank-Up-Magic Battle Up Force! Whenever you declare an attack, I target 1 'Xyz' monster that I can control and then I can use it to summon another monster from my Extra Deck that's 2 ranks higher." said Shadow as his falcon disappeared into an orb of light and a portal opened up in front of it as it entered in and a pillar of light emerged. "Fiercest falcon, set your wings ablaze and lock your gaze on our ill-fated foe! Now, make it so! Go, Rank-Up Xyz Evolution! Emerge, Raidraptor - Revolution Falcon(2000/3000, OLU: 1) in defense mode!" Shadow now replaced his previous monster with an even powerful one.

"Now since I used a monster that was a lower rank than my Revolution Falcon to summon it, I can destroy one monster on your field and you take damage equal to half its attack points!"

"Think again, cause my Flare Metal Dragon has his own ability. As long as it has Xyz materials attached to it, it can't be destroyed by card effects. So your effect doesn't work. Furthermore, while my dragon has materials, it can deal you 500 points of damage everytime you activate a card or effect. So since you used your spell card and your monster's special ability, you take 1000 points of damage." stated Sunset as her dragon shot a fireball and caused Shadow to cover up. She then had her dragon stop its attack.
Shadow's Life Points: 3900-

"Nice counter." said Shadow as he didn't expect Sunset's monster to have a unique ability.

"Thanks, now I'll activate the effect of my Red-Eyes Metal Flare Dragon." Sunset then grabbed a card from underneath her Xyz monster card as she slid it to the graveyard. "Now I can bring back my Red-Eyes Black Dragon from the graveyard." Red-Eyes once again rose up as it appeared next to Sunset who bent its head down and gave her a nuzzle to which she petted his head and gave a quick kiss. "I'll then set one card facedown and end my turn."

Turn 10: Shadow

"My turn, so I'll switch my monster into attack mode. Now I activate Revolution Falcon's special ability, by using its overlay unit it can attack each one of your monsters and they lose all their attack and defense points!" said Shadow as Sunset's monsters were stripped of their power.

"Keep in mind, it doesn't come without a cost." said Sunset as her dragon burned away even more points of Shadow's life points.
Shadow's Life Points: 3400-

"That's a small price, cause I'm about to win this duel!" Revolution Falcon then soared high into the sky as it ascended. "Attack, avenge those who have fallen and take out Sunset! Blitzing Bombardment!!!" shouted Shadow as his monster soared high into the sky and unlatched its compartments as tons of bombs started to rain down as it was heading towards Sunset's monsters.

"I activate my facedown, Defense Draw. Even though my monster will be destroyed, this will cut the damage down to 0 and I get to draw a card." said Sunset as her Red-Eyes Metal Flare Dragon was destroyed.

"You may have survived that one, but how about this one! Take out Red-Eyes, Blitzing Bombardment!!!" shouted Shadow as more bombs started to fall from the sky. Sunset then covered herself as Red-Eyes let out a cry as it was hit by the bombs.
Sunset's Life Points: 300-

The battle was over as the entire field was devastated as there was tiny holes left in the ground by Shadow's attack. Soon the smoke cleared and there was Sunset who was down to a knee, but she quickly stood up and dusted herself off as she flipped her hair to show that she was still standing. The crowd really was into it as they gave an applause, even the girls and the students couldn't help but join in at the amazing duel they were seeing. Isaac was sitting from his throne as he had a smile covered by his hand.

"You're still standing, man are you a tough girl." said Shadow.

"Like I said, it's going to take a lot more than that to keep me down. You forget who battled Isaac on multiple occasions." said Sunset.

"Yeah, which means this duel isn't over. In that case, I'll end my turn." said Shadow.

Turn 11: Sunset

"My turn, here goes." said Sunset as she drew her card. She looked at her options and knew what she had to do. "To start, I play Monster Reborn to bring back my Red-Eyes B. Dragon." Once more, Sunset now had brought back her ace monster as it looked to win this duel for its mistress. "Now the stage is set, I tribute my Red-Eyes Black Dragon so that I can call upon a creature with absolute power." Soon pillars of fire started to surround Sunset as she and her dragon stood there with a determined look as the draft from the flames caused a bit of wind to blow against her as her hair fluttered in the wind. "Now make way... for Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon(2400/2000)!!!!" shouted Sunset as she held her card up high before placed it on her duel disk as the fire around her surround her body and traveled as it reached her card and her monster emerged from the pillars as it disbursed. It let out a loud roar as everybody was in awe by what they saw.

"Oh boy." said Shadow.

"Now my dragon activate your ability, my Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon now gains 300 extra attack for every dragon in my graveyard. Rollcall!!" shouted Sunset as she held her duel disk arm up high as the spirits of her dragons appeared next to her as they let out a collective roar to show their love for Sunset as their mistress. "There are currently 9 dragons in my graveyard, so my Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon gains 2700 extra attack points which when added up gives him a grand total of 5100."

"5100 attack points?!" said Shadow.

"Now attack, take out Raidraptor Revolution Falcon!!" shouted Sunset as she thrusted her arm out. Her monster heard its command and it flew high into the air and opened it mouth as it charged its attack and then unleashed it as it was sent hurling towards Shadow and his monster as he was flung back.
Shadow's Life Points: 300-

"Now we're even. So I end my turn." stated Sunset.

"Sunset just delivered a devastating attack!!" shouted Luna into the microphone.

"With that last move, both duelists are now tied at 300 life points apiece. And Sunset currently has the strongest monster on the field, if Shadow doesn't do something about it. I'm afraid it's all over. I wonder what Isaac thinks about this." said Celestia as she looked over to where Isaac was sitting as he just had a straight look on his face.

Turn 12: Shadow

Shadow slowly rose to his feet as he surveyed the situation in front of him. He looked at Sunset who stood there with a smile on her face as her dragon bent down in front of her so that she could pet him as he nuzzled against its mistress. Shadow then rubbed his arm as he was a bit in pain. He then looked over at where Isaac was sitting and he saw him with a straight look on his face. Soon the memory of Isaac beating him in a duel came into his mind as he clenched his fist.

Time I earn my keep, if I want to face Isaac and pay him back for embarrassing me. Then I need to win; as mush as Pinkie annoys me, she's right. I have to trust my cards. "Here I go, draw!" shouted Shadow as he drew his card and looked at it. "Hope this works. I play the spell card, Rank-Up-Magic Soul Shave Force, so I pay half my life points so that I can bring back a 'Raidraptor' Xyz monster. Then I can use that monster to Xyz summon a monster that's 2 ranks higher from my Extra Deck. However at the end of the turn, I'll take damage equal to that monster's attack points." said Shadow as this move would decided everything.
Shadow's Life Points: 150-

"Here we go, I bring back my Raidraptor - Revolution Falcon. Then I'll use it to Xyz Summon!" Shadow's monster then turned into an orb of light as a portal opened up in front of him as it disappeared and a pillar of light emerged. "Dauntless falcon. Hoist up the flame of anger, become the flash of light that burns the land to ash! Go, Rank Up Xyz Evolution! You're clear for take-off! Raidraptor - Satellite Cannon Falcon(3000/2000, OLU: 1)!" Shadow now had his own monster as it looked to go toe to toe with Sunset's mighty dragon.

"And Shadow responds with his own monster!!" shouted Luna as everybody looked on with interest.

"I activate Satellite Cannon Falcon's ability, by using one overlay unit, I can lower your monster by 800 points for every 'Raidraptor' in my graveyard!" shouted Shadow. Soon out from his duel disk came the spirits of his fallen birds as they soared around him and infused into Satellite Cannon Falcon as it gave a loud screech. "There are currently 10 'Raidraptors' in my graveyard, so Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon loses all of it attack points!"

"No!!!" said Sunset as she watched her mighty dragon be stripped away of all its power.

"Now to end this, attack Sunset directly!!" Shadow's monster then flew high into the air so much so that it left the atmosphere and entered into space then it looked down and locked onto it target. Soon it unfurled its wings even more as it produced the symbol on its back as it unloaded it weapons and pointed them. "Go, Vengeful Vengeance!!!!" shouted Shadow as his monster raced down with so much speed and power as it fired off its cannons and Sunset's dragon was helpless against it, even Sunset tried to protect herself but it was too much as she was tossed onto her back.

"Ahh!" said Sunset as she was flung onto the grass.
Sunset's Life Points: 0-

Winner: Shadow

"And ladies and gentleman the duel is over!" said Celestia. "The winner of the first round and will be moving on is... Shadow Moonrise!!"

The crowd just applauded as they showed their love and respect for Shadow in being named the winner. Shadow was most surprised as he didn't expect to actually win the duel given that his opponent was Sunset Shimmer who was an experienced duelist. But he did and now he was moving on to the next round of the tournament. He looked over at Isaac who was still sitting in his throne chair on the podium as he just cracked a small smile. Soon he noticed Sunset getting up as she wiped the dirt off of her leather jacket and blew the tiny piece of hair in front of her as she fixed it back in place. She then stood up and made her way to Shadow who just straighten up.

"Congrats, kid. You're moving on." said Sunset as she extended her hand.

"Thanks." said Shadow and returned the gesture to show his respect for Sunset.

"Hope you make it far kid, I'll be rooting for you." Sunset then made her way off the field as Shadow just took in the moment for a bit longer.

All the thoughts rushed to his head as he couldn't believe that he made it past the first round and would continue on. "Flawless victory." said Shadow as he said his little catchphrase.

Author's Note:

Well, now. Bet you didn't expect that result, did you. If that happen, then what awaits the other duel? Hmm.
