Dark. But I like it, in a ghost story kinda’ way.
There's a lot to be said for short, simple ideas executed very well, which is definitely what you do here.
Applejack's internal monologue is very well conveyed, her repetition of the mantra of digging the hole gives it a nice style coupled with the steady descent into obsession which creates a good progression.

Kinda happy its a AU, though I wish that it was never specified the Shovel was cursed. There is something wonderful in ambiguity, even if it is minor(and obvious).
