Four years ago, Shining Armor’s parents died in a horrific car accident, leaving him and his wife to take care of his little sister, Twilight Sparkle. There isn’t a thing that he wouldn’t do for her, yet there are times when it feels like there isn’t anything he can do for her. To him, the time she spent under his care has been nothing but a long string of him letting her down.

All things considered, it is understandable that she wouldn’t want to spend a day reserved for celebrating one’s parents with him.

With ponies not giving her a chance and still changing the details from her past to make it worse, the ponies start to get to Starlight and soon awful thoughts start to plague her mind.

When Starlight Glimmer reads A Hearth's Warming Tail for herself the day after Hearth's Warming, she finds it to be a bit different then how she remembered. Specifically, what was Sunburst doing in the story?

Turns out that Twilight doesn't always read the whole story.

Spike has had a lot of extra time since Twilight and Starlight have become busy with their various duties. It's understandable, but he feels rather useless at times.

After taking a trip to the local hospital, Spike starts volunteering to entertain the fillies and colts in the children's wing. Spreading laughs and smiles to children and families who need encouragement is more fulfilling then he could have ever wished.

But, when a certain blonde-maned pegasus with much less fortunate circumstances takes notice of Spike and just how caring he truly is, how will Spike react?
