You might think that Equestrian nights are but serene exhibitions of Luna's work on the sky. You may believe that you can just lay out on the grass and admire the beautiful stars as a warm evening breeze caresses your mane. And you would be wrong.

Equestria is a magical place, and where there is magic, there is chaos. Dead rising from their graves, inanimate objects coming to life, strange apparitions making your foal cry in her room... sounds familiar? No? Then I'm doing my job right.

I'm Twilight Sparkle, and I work the Night Shift.

Chant Circle has dedicated most of his life to studying the genetics of ponykind and improving them through the use of magic. Although he pursues positive goals like extending the lifespan of ponies or enhancing immunity to disease, th magical discipline he chose is far from popular, which is strongly implied by the common nickname "Black Magic" for it.

Undeterred by the opinion of others and possible personal loss Chant and his "coworkers" are bringing their most important creation, artificial improved pony, to its final stages. Yet thing rarely go smoothly when you expect them to.

This story is written as a birthday present for WeLCxAlphaPuppy and takes place in the same universe as his Waking eyes.

I would like to thank Sir Barton who is so kind to do editing for me. If you haven't done so yet, give his works a read, they are really worth it.

Diamond Tiara and Apple Bloom hate each other. Their hate is strong, and pure. But their families are such good friends, and have plans for the two fillies to be together through marriage. They will have none of this hate between the two fillies.

In order to protect their hatred towards each other, the two run away to their new life of forever being mortal enemies, in the hopes that one day they can be apart from each other in peace.

It's Nightmare Night and Discord's first since he was reformed. He's been looking forward to it for months and even put together a neat costume to go with it. Until Celestia sends him a message saying he's not allowed to go.

Down in Ponyville, the ponies are preparing for a night that will never be forgotten- but nothing could have prepared them for this.
Spike's an alicorn, Twilight's a dragon, Rainbow Dash is her favourite daring adventurer, Rarity's a vampire, Pinkie Pie and Applejack are changelings, Fluttershy's dead and Sombra and Chrysalis have returned. And I'm not referring to costumes!

The mane six find a golden horseshoe with an odd inscription written on it. Curious, they each try it on and discover that it temporarily turns them into exaggerated versions of who everypony else thinks they really are. Twilight turns into a nerd, Applejack turns into an ignorant redneck, etc. Realizing the horseshoe is too dangerous, Rainbow tries to dispose of it. But she hides it in an obvious spot, and now the horseshoe has fallen into the hooves of other ponies...

That's right, the Joker, otherwise known as the Clown Prince of Crime, the Harlequin of Hate, and the White Duke of Death, is now in Equestria. Will this unpredictable, murderous psychopath learn the true magic of friendship and abandon his old malicious ways? The Helicoprion, a long-lived genus of shark-like cartilaginous fish that went extinct millions of years ago. This predator certainly was a strange one, seeing how its lower jaw was basically a mix of a fruit roll-up and chainsaw. I make a living studying fossils, and this guy certainly takes the cake for the number one in the weird factor. So imagine my surprise when I inexplicably turn up in Equestria of all places. As a Helicoprion. Guess it's just one of those days.
