Rarity is the consummate Lady: she never goes back on her word, and she never complains to a customer. But this newest order has just been different and for the first time in a long, long time Rarity finds herself truly with empty hooves, with no creative energies to summon.

Some mild Raridash. Not really shipping, but sort of? Anyhow, I hope you enjoy! It was nice to write something after being sort of stuck myself.

Absolutely spectacular! While your inner voice for Rarity is just a bit too refined for a pony who was born and bred in Ponyville (despite her affectations and protestations), your emotional storytelling is very honest. As an exhausted artist I empathize. Also - Raridash is grossly underrated, so you've got that going for you. :raritywink:

Rarity was not born a lady, she became one through hard work.
But yeah, maybe a bit too refined, she does slip at times, possibly, instead of reciting what lady is supposed to do ro not do, have her remind herself about it instead.
Good story though. :moustache:
And yes, Raridash is underrated and underused, not sure why, possibly because the jock+ egghead and farmgirl+fashionista pairings seem to dominate (also bold and brash+timid and polite that Flutterdash has going with it).

1154016 I think that mostly you're right! I kind of figured her as the sort of "acolyte tries too hard" kind... at least, when she was younger, and she tried to force that cultured air and it became habit to admonish herself. But I think it's valid to point out!

And from one artist to another (though maybe different disciplines!) thanks.

1154261 I agree! Few are born with nobility of character! That's why I think she began using that little mantra of "A Lady..." because she wanted to have that grace and poise and practiced serenity. I figure it is a lot like following a pattern for a dress or something, or in drawing. She's looking back up with the little mantra, checking to make sure the drawing fits the subject.

As I wrote this I began to see more and more that Rarity and Rainbow actually really do get along. When I go back and watch, they talk and interact a surprising amount. I like Rarijack too, to some extent. It's interesting to see how opposite might attract. I'll be honest though: at heart, underneath it all, I'm a TwiDash sort of man. :P

Makes sense.

I think that you misspelled Sweetie Belle's name in there somewhere, but other than that it's all bonito.

1154261
I think that's what all the 'A lady X' bits were doing; her reminding herself of just that. And as to earlier? Ponyville may be a bit out of the way, but as mentioned, hard work can make one a bit more in tune with polite society's requirements. (And, conversely, Canterlot-born ponies aren't always as high-tone as expected. See file on 'Sparkle, T' for further info. :twilightblush: )

It is a nice story, and it was also nice to see Rainbow putting her thoughts of burnout in her own words despite Rarity being the main focus. Nice to see a little more to her.

RariDash! :raritywink::rainbowkiss: Great job. A few grammatical errors (it's/its confusion and dialogue punctuation problems. Forgive me, I'm sort of a grammar nazi when I'm reading) and Rarity's voice, as has been stated before, can be a bit overbearing, but you handled this well. Definitely deserving of a thumbs-up and fave.

Also this is just a response to that second part. That's what I love about RariDash (or Rarity and Rainbow Dash interaction in general). There's a subtlety to their relationship within the show. Rarity seems to understand Rainbow Dash and definitely cares about her (look at the beginning of Sonic Rainboom. Rarity decides to undergo a risky spell just so she can provide support for Rainbow. Doesn't turn out well, but still...). Same thing with Rainbow. Though she didn't look all too pleased to be helping Rarity out in Swarm of the Century, she was still there.

Plus, Rainbow Dash saved Rarity's life. How many other pairings can play that card? If anything would trigger feelings for somepony, it's being saved by said pony. tl;dr: WE NEED MORE RARIDASH!

That was a lovely little story. I'm probably being an idiot though, but I'm not entirely sure on what 'feminine pursuit' Rainbow and Rarity were talking about towards the end.

1155198 I agree that it is a little overwrought. I'm happy about it (as an experiment) but if this were a form I was more familiar with... I'd perhaps be less satisfied with it. If I do return to Rarity, I think I know what I could do differently. Above all, I think not having that little refrain might help. Thank you, though! (It's about 20 away from my FOE fic... maybe I should write more things that can be labeled shipping...)

1155209 *goes back and reads the story* Ah. Feminine pursuits= figure flying = (For me) like figure skating. I was imagining something a lot like figure skating only with wings. Figure skating is, at least where I'm from, considered a more female-oriented thing, so I wrote it as being that in Equestria as well. (Though I will say that when my mother watches it every now and then in boredom I'll watch with her and I must say that I am usually rather impressed. I appreciate skill, even in things that don't necessarily appeal to me.)

Cut to white on a boat, I'm looking ahead.
Holding on a rope, I am.......nauseous.

For this story you deserve two Raritys::raritywink::raritywink:
One Trixie::trixieshiftleft:
And a Drunk Guinea Pig named Charlie:

1157396

Oh my. I do believe this is the first time I've ever received... well, anything of an intoxicated manner. :P lol

Also thanks for reading!

1207782 That's why they pay me handsomely. :trixieshiftleft:

:moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache: Twas good, twas good.

1232950 Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. :)

Finally! I was wondering when this shipping was going to get attention, and here you have answered my prayers!
Now... I hope we get to see danger, drama, romance and the like!
I can see it now, perhaps even Rarity being the one to save Rainbow's life in return!
It makes me soggy with gushes of daaw inside.

1236955
Hey! I'm really glad that I could entertain you and that you liked the story! :)

I probably will return to Raridash at some point, perhaps even to this version of it, with the headcanoon (haha) that I sort of constructed in writing them. This particular story won't continue, but I'm about... 69.872354% that there'll be another Raridash fic in my future.

1237144
Heh... 69... heh... I'm 12...

Also, I've got some work to do if I'm going to catch up with you on the RariDash train.

TO THE SHIPPING MOBILE!!!

I really like this story its cool! but it could use a lil bit moar romance but its a nice story.

oh and Dash can cook i really want to see that XD

1241389 This is one of the most juvenilely awesome things someone has ever posted on any story I've ever written.

1368886 We all have hidden talents. To be honest, I have no idea why I decided she could.

And thankya!

1369898
Yeah... and then I realize that it would round up to 70% making my whole joke pointless.

*sigh*
Another joke bites the dust.

Late comment is late. But better late than never, no? I figured you probably don't want or need an in-depth analysis of this story as old as it is, so I will spare you that.

This was a great story with an unusual pairing, one that you actually made work! Well done.

Also Rainbow Dash is best chef. th06.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/f/2012/023/b/a/happy_rainbow_dash_in_chef__s_hat_by_crusierpl-d4ncoz0.png

I absolutely adored this story. Easily one of the best RariDash stories I have ever read, well done! I must say that I really do love your Rarity. Her constant focus on whether or not her actions fit the image of a sophisticated socialite she's trying to present, and how she was always thinking ahead, considering what the best course of action is. It's good characterization and it forms a nice little contrast with the rather brash and reckless Rainbow.

The other aspects of the story were all top notch as well and I adore the way you depicted their relationship. Rainbow cooking for the both of them while Rarity is busy and feeling embarrassed by it was really cute. I also really liked how you had Dash come up with "alternate" ways of helping Rarity to compensate for her lack of knowledge. Just touching to see Rainbow try to help her in whatever ways she can.

Another nice little piece of interaction was Rarity telling Dash she can be bit more feminine in private. Both of them are very concerned with what others think of them and try to present some sort of perfect image of themselves to the outside world, so I liked this comment because it implies they might eventually let those masks drop in private, even though they currently still seem hesistant to do so.

Furthermore, I loved how you made them so insightful towards eachother. Despite their superficial differences they are similar in many ways and it shows in this story, what with Rainbow deducing exactly what is wrong with Rarity and even coming up with a way to help her. She may not truly understand what Rarity's passions are about, but I love how hard she tries. Same thing with Rarity figuring out what Rainbow saying cool really means and truly valuing her judgement. Excellent.

The sexual innuendo towards the end made me curious as to what goes on in the bedroom, but there's simply not enough to go on when it comes to that.

All in all, this was an great story and an excellent look at what a domestic situation might look like for these two. Marvelous job!

Generosity and Loyalty, giving of oneself for another pony, in different contexts.

Never really thought of it like that. Wonderful little connection.

1584991 Thank you!

That little connection is part of why I say they're kind of sides of the same coin. They are both a weird mixture of supreme arrogance and surprising selflessness. They'll both talk themselves up, but they're also very capable of being there for each other. I think Rainbow is a lot worse at the whole feelings thing, but I feel like she would try because she's loyal and she does care. Writing Rarity in this was fun--and writing her period is always fun!

(Don't let Rainbow fool you she is totally the submissive one here. Rarity is the consummate mover and shaker.)

a very relaxing read, it is very light on the romance but full of feeling. Like a cup of tea with a single drop of lemon, very relaxing.

Love it. It's nice to have something on the lighter side for a change! :raritywink::rainbowkiss:

I like this one, it shows a little bit of the pains of being part of the creative side of things. And especially for one as Rarity and being paired with the least likely be the one to give her insight on her troubles. This is epic, I would say more but that would be selfish of my....I shall try the more modern approach. MOAR PLEASE! :yay:

1915753 There is quite a bit more! This was the first story I did with this pair, but not the last. There's a whole series of stories with Rarity and Dash in my gallery. :3 I suggest "Catch For Us the Little Foxes" or maybe "Lilies of the Field"

1916109
Yay! :yay:

Alrighty then, I will be giving the other stories a read through after I submit this comment! Like how you write your stories by the way, keep it up my good fellow!

A nice little slice-of-life story, and exceptionally well-written at that. There are a couple of character lapses on both sides (you trip over Rarity's idioms a few times, and for the life of me I can't hear Rainbow Dash use the word "partially"), but on the whole you capture both characters' traits and foibles beautifully. I had a good time reading and even felt a little inspired, which is high praise since I usually can't stand straight-up SOL. Excellent work! :raritywink:

2070373 I liked this one. This was when I realized I loved writing this couple. Yeah, Rainbow ain't sayin' partially, ha! I actually only realized this was truly Slice of Life like... a week ago. For reals. I just always thought of it as romance, sort of, but yeah. I should change that. I'm really glad you enjoyed this one! See how much better it is?

2146617 Failed attempts at morality tales not your thing? Surprised! Ha

I'ma go look through your favorites

digdigdig

1154016 I found myself feeling the same. I kind of wanted her constant "A lady must do this and that" to be coming from someone or somewhere else. Like a book she had read or some teacher from Canterlot. To have it coming from her and her alone kind of pulled me out of the story a lot. Still a beautiful sweet and piece and Raridash is definitely an under appreciated ship ^^ :raritywink::rainbowkiss:

2329307 I continued to do that with Rarity, but after this I toned it down a ton. It was more of an occasional thing (A Lady... etc) and eventually there was actually a list mentioned, that she had as a child. Maxims! But yes, after this I pulled it off a lot better.

I love these light atmosphere stories. They read off very smooth and easy, and aren't overall dramatic or emotional.

Your voice for Rarity was near perfection and is just about what I would expect from here. The banter between Dashie and Rarity also is done very well, and Dash is put perfectly in character as well. I like the bit of doubt you cast in Rarity's mind about her overall love of fashion while still not making the story overly complex or deep. For me that little bit was icing on the cake.

And speaking of cake, Rainbow is a good cook! Who knew?

Nice job on this

The narration in this fic is really something else entirely! :rainbowderp:

I felt obliged to quote excerpts in various skype chats. I simply adored some of the imagery used, and it's certainly wonderful inspiration for some Rarity perspective fics.

Masterfully done, Cynewulf, but should I really have expected any less coming from you?

I'm finding it difficult to muster serializable thoughts about this story, despite finding so much in it that I can relate to. I have been, over the past year, attempting to get in touch with my creative side, which I was pretty sure had been thouroghly lost for quite some time. I find myself in situations where I want to make something, but have no idea what, let alone where to start. Alternatively, I'll find myself in the middle of creating something and getting increasingly impatient with it, simply wanting it to be done so I can stop, or looking at what I've done and wondering "why am I doing this?". I have mental fights with the notion that I should make things I have no interest in in order to have a broader range as an artist. This is usually when I start asking what the point of it all is. I can't really describe this state as "burnout", but it certainly is a tumultuous relationship with creation.

I suppose the point of all that was that I think I enjoyed this story more for the metaphors for and depictions of art-feelings more than for the relationship and dialogue you created for Rainbow and Rarity. Which, I admit, is unusual. I think this is the first time I've seen RDxR in any form. I'm not quite sure what to make of it.

This was very refreshing. The mood was so very domestic and romantically subtle. This evoked a sense of what each and every person feels from time to time and I loved it all. Thank you for this. I hope to see more like it in the future.

6601779 the meme that ascended. It's all over my gallery

Sweet little moments.

It is interesting seeing Rainbow be all domestic... not that she'd want anypony else to know about it.:raritywink:

1237144

but I'm about... 69.872354% that there'll be another Raridash fic in my future.

4 1/2 years, 1666 days later and I would say you were spot on!

Interesting to see where all the RariDash started.

This definitely feels more Slice of Life than romance, and I don't really ship RariDash, but this was a nice pleasant story.
