When Twilight publishes the Friendship Journal, they all become orders of magnitude more famous than they already were. Except Spike. Nobody cared about him. That is, until he gets a letter from an interesting organization about some legal matters revolving around it...

Written with S7E14 - "Fame and Misfortune" in mind.

Now with a reading by DRWolf001! It's really great!

Nobody cared about him.

xD

So.... why is this labeled as complete?

I mean I could see it ending there, but I could also see silly legal drama.

All. My. Yes. As a Spike fan I realized the episode was devoid of best assistant. Then I realized that complaining about it would make me out to be as petty as all the fan-ponies in the episode itself. I laughed at the meta joke about Twilight's character, followed by the cry, "Twilight was better before she got her wings!"

And I would think that Spike would agree with the sentiment.

Thanks, I appreciate it! The actual episode was pretty meta, so I figured it only made sense to throw in a few jokes in that light as well :twilightsheepish:

I read a theory that the episode was originally written with Spike in it but later the script got changed and Starlight replaced Spike. If you picture Spike doing everything Starlight did in the episode (aside the book copying) it actually makes perfect sense.

8363521
Oh yeah for certain. I'm not faulting the writers or anything for using Starlight as the support. I thought it was better that way IMO. There was just too much going on in the episode to have Spike play a role too and I saw a fun opportunity to write something.

This is pretty fun.

Thanks! Your profile pic is cute.

This was amusing. I especially love the interactions between Spike and Celestia. The show and even fanfiction doesn't have enough of that.

8363636
Thanks, I like writing their interactions. It's just funny to me to imagine Celestia coming to Spike for reassurance, and him trying to be sympathetic whilst also being nervous about the whole thing haha.

This is just fucked up

Wonderful little story about our favorite but unfortunately mostly ignored dragon here.
Have a thumbs up and a fav.

Just kidding!

Love,
Princess Celestia and Spike (The Brave and Glorious)

11/10 Loved it! Perfect way for Spike to feel appreciated! Gratz on the Feature!

Short but cute.

This was fun.

I agree with 8363485 though maybe that's just my tendency to take pony situations and turn them into legal battles.

8364378
It's open for interpretation

8364240
It's complete "enough" for a one-shot. If I find the urge to continue it, there's paths I could certainly go down to escalate. Thanks!

Is Spike really the Author of the Friendship Journal?

8364407
I took some liberties and assumed he had some friendship lessons (I'm pretty sure he wrote one at some point, also?).

The little legal "caveat" was that he wrote a lot of the lessons that Twilight dictated to him.

Well written mate! Awesome idea and story. Thank you for sharing!

8364414
I appreciate it, thanks for reading!

But the LEGAL Author of the Friendship Journal?

One of the best Spike-themed stories and twist endings that I have ever read on this sight. My faves and compliments to you, author.

8364684
Why thank you, I appreciate that! Glad you enjoyed.

8364725 No, thank you for making such an entertaining story.

Short and lulzy. I love it :rainbowlaugh:

Haha I love the funny part of Celestial :trollestia:

Always love Spike and Celestia, stories. Felt like I want to give each of them a hug.

Good job!:moustache::trollestia:

Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for reading

at least Spike and Celestia can find comfort in each other

I liked this story quite a bit. I love seeing stories with just spike and celestia handing out. Great work and keep it up.

:pinkiegasp: I sense a sequal!

I really enjoyed this.

After reading this, I now want to go read more Celestia and Spike stories.

I'll keep it in mind to think of story ideas with Spike and Celestia.

I'm disappony

Well, technically he would be both a co-author and a co-editor. Also, if I remember correctly, the friendship journal doesn't have all the lessons in it. A lot of the lessons written by other characters (Spike included) were just sent as letters to the Princess. Then there were the Twilight only letters before the Journal. Now, I could certainly see Celestia and Spike putting together all the response letters and Spike's letters and publishing that. Alternatively, they could get everyone who has ever written a letter and get the rights to add that in for a second edition. Then, when their sales trump Twilight's, they could always get the popular opinion on their side, go to court, and nab some royalties off the original. Better yet, Celestia can try to claim international distribution rights. I bet a complete international edition with translations would sell big time in the Dragon lands and Crystal Empire, and maybe they could sell to the changelings too. But seriously, imagine a whole stock of side characters all putting together a massive lawsuit to get this rolling since Twilight and co. infringed on their rights to their own likeness. It would be glorious! Actually, I think I might take a crack at it in a few months, if you don't mind. I feel like this could be a great follow up.

Feel free to do whatever you like, I don't plan on continuing this story. Thanks for the in-depth thoughts!

"I'll bet." It was true, he knew of course. He had all the sympathy in the world for Twilight and her friends, but today all of that sympathy was accompanied by jealousy as well.

IDK why but I imagined Twilight with a pistol, looking out her window as she's talking to Spike.

This is just so very clever! However, it looks like their joke completely failed, considering the difficulties that they have had.

Now if there was talk about Twilight getting Sued For Royalties, now THAT would be a different story!

Still, this was a fun ride and I am happy that I got to read this lovely story ^_^

The excuse is she's so tired of the book and all the headaches its given her, as the episode made clear. So she didn't bother to look into it because she was so relieved in that moment. It's believable enough so that I could end it there.

Oh no Twilight! Ending the book, would be like ending the show. It will trigger angry bronies.

Princesses suing each other for royalties. Isn't that a lovely pun
