Ah, the story that made Fluttershy/Big Mac my favorite pairing. Good to see that it has finally arrived here.
This fic is what got me into fanfiction period, not just ponies. It's great to finally see it here, and why won't it let me give it a thumbs up more than once?
Before any of them could answer, a fearsome shriek like a roaring manticore came from the cloistered back room, followed by a voice the group of mares had first heard when the chaos had reached its absolute height at that first Grand Galloping Gala they'd attended so many years ago. "YOU DID THIS TO ME YOU BIG... LUNK-HEADED... BRUTE! NO! YOU KEEP BREATHING! THAT'S RIGHT, TRY TO KEEP BREATHING WHILE I STRANGLE YOUR STUPID HEAD OFF OF YOUR BIG... FAT... RED NECK! LET GO OF ME YOU NAGS! I'M GOING TO STRANGLE HIM! LET ME UP SO I CAN STRANGLE MY HUSBAND!"


In the stunned silence that followed, only the sound of Granny Smith's low chuckle and the rhythmic clack of her rocking could be heard. The old mare smiled fondly as she knitted. "Such a sweet filly. I sure as shootin' weren't so gentle with my husband when I was a-birthin' my first."

THE MOST FUNNIEST THING EVER! Very unexpected of Fluttershy, and Granny Smith's reaction was priceless. amazing story. Everything flows wonderfully, the plot is cute and good, and there's enough details to really get me into the story without boring me to death:P

I thought Flutteryshy was sick, Twilight was crazy, and the others we're rushing to Fluttershy's aid.
Now that I've read the story though, the picture makes a lot more sense
I am not ashamed in any way, shape, or form to say that this masterpiece of a story tugged at my heart-strings.
when i finished reading this, i felt so full of happiness and joy; i wanted to go out into the world and find someone to fall in love with and be with forever. the only problem with this fact is that i seem to have a curse that forces me to fall head-over-heels in love with someone who will never feel the same way i do about them. All in all though, this is so far the single best fluttershy-romance fic i have ever read; even better than the one that i'm writting. You deserve an award.

That's kind of what I figured.
We're kind of getting into a grey area here where it becomes a question of whether an "expert" can compel someone to follow their advice. Doctors and nurses are experts (hopefully) but they are not infallible or omniscient, and frankly Granny Smith is within her rights to look out for her family the way she sees fit. I don't see that as condescending, frankly I find being compelled by someone claiming expertise "for your own good" is more condescending.
Zecora comes to the situation with generations of wisdom and experience from her traditions, Nurse Redheart brings all the advances and techniques modern medical science has to offer, and I see Cabbage Leaf as kind of a synthesis of the two. (Plus I have a cousin who is a licensed midwife.) The whole point is that there are multiple perspectives that all have some measure of validity, and its up to the individual or family unit to decide what way works best for them.
So I wouldn't call it anti-intellectual, so much as giving intellectualism equal weight with other viewpoints and not automatically crowning it the superior perspective.
