Twilight's relentless study of Pinkie's strange abilities leads to a horrifying revelation.

This site really needs an existential horror tag.

So yeah. This idea just got stuck in my head today and I had to write a little one shot for it. I imagine a lot of authors have trouble writing Pinkie. If you're trying to write some serious adventure epic, you kinda have to gloss over Pinkie's 4th wall abusing antics. Wanted to write about that little issue from an in universe perspective. Had no idea what to put for the tags since i didn't see anything like psychological horror. I decided to just go with Dark and Random.

Well, it had to happen eventually. Twilight finally failed one SAN check too many.

BTW, I frickin' loved this one. Funny, and yet strangely horrifying at the same time.

First, Pinkie breaks reality....

THEN SHE BREAKS YOU!!!!:pinkiecrazy:

I was wondering why you'd tagged this as dark until I saw the implications at the end there. Well done, sir.

Lolwut
This is great.

On a side note, when will the next chapter of Then Tommorow Came come out?

An excellent piece of existential horror - short, sweet and surprisingly chilling. Could have benefited from being slightly more drawn out, so as to cultivate suspense and all that jazz, but for what it is, it's a neat piece of fiction. Good job!

That...was amazing.:rainbowderp:

How is it even possible for a human to write such a piece of worship-worthy literature?

aaand... Now Twi's stuck in an endless loop.
every time she wipes her memory, she's going to forget WHY she did, or even that she did, and then she's going to see the journal, she's going to remember, and the whole cycle's going to start again.
Until she dies, or one of her friends interrupts it before she sees the journal again.

But it's really only a temporary solution, unless she ends up putting a Forget Me Lots spell on the book.

So... she repeat the events over and over???
Dude that's... wow...
Never thought it that way.

This needs to get featured.

Yeah, that sounds about right.

Creepy....:pinkiecrazy:

But I really enjoyed it. Good work!

Whoa, that is one hell of a vicious cycle. Wake up, read book, GET YOUR WHOLE PERSPECTIVE OF THE WORLD RAPED, lose your memory, repeat :pinkiecrazy:

Pinkie Pie is best Eldritch Abomination/Cosmic Horror.

That ending gave me chills... Great story though :pinkiehappy:

Ignorance is bliss right pinkie pie?....pinkie says yes:pinkiecrazy:

I'd like to say sometime this weekend, but then I'll feel like a horrible liar if turns out not to be true. I'll probably have it done by sometime Saturday night/Sunday morning.

Wow! It's just like It's About Time. Very well written! No matter what though, Pinkie is still cute little Pinkie to me! :pinkiehappy: Great work here! :raritywink:

747396
I think I might explode twice if that happened. :pinkiegasp:

Does this mean that the reason that Pinkie Pie freaked out that one time she thought nopony wanted to be her friend any more was because HER understanding of the world was rattled as much as Twilight's?

She believed that the entire meaning of her existence was to be funny and light-hearted for 'the audience,' and yet she believed that she was being defriended, which is anything but happy and funny.

Any thoughts on how the fourth wall played a part in Pinkie's Flour-Sack and Turnip-Bucket Party?

748178
I would even put that down to "rule of funny". It happened because it would be entertaining and serve the plot. As for what goes on in Pinkie's head, who knows? She's the manifestation of the will of unknowable outer gods. :pinkiecrazy:

And so the process repeats itself.

This is a masterpiece of (pony based) existential horror. I am pleased.:pinkiecrazy:

And then Twilight found herself trapped into an infinite loop...:twilightoops:

.....:pinkiecrazy:

I absolutely love the horrifying implications here. Leave it to Twilight to break her own brain so thoroughly that she traps herself in an infinite loop of despair.

I did not see what about it was so scary, until the end. But really, Twilight should have just tossed the journal before doing the spell. What is an "Eldritch Abomination?" I know what "Abomination" is, but what is "Eldritch?" Spell check won't accept it. Crazy Pinkie Gallery:

Twilight's thoughts on Pinkie: :twilightoops:

And All Emote At Once

"Eldritch" refers to something that is infused with an ancient, unknowable magic.

This seems so familiar. It's almost as if someone postulated on this before.

But I'm glad that other people recognize that she's a Great Old One whose body was hewn from the bones of the First World as it was destroyed in the creation of our current universe. She exists beyond space and time, beyond our mortal inadequacies that force us to engage in such illusions of "causality" and "conservation of mass/energy". Our collective refusal to see beyond that which our minds block out is but an amusement to her pinkishness, and she laughs the many laughs of the mad, the manic, and the damned. Celestia has no power over her, and the fabric of reality is merely a napkin for her to wipe her chin off when she has had too much cake.
The cake is, surprisingly, not a metaphor; it's merely cake. Even Eldritch Abominations like cake, especially when it is so delicious and moist.

And now I've read the story, and I must applaud you. This was excellently written and kept my attention riveted all the way through. I feel bad for Twilight, and wish that she could peek just a bit more and see how much so many of us care about her and just want her to be happy. But then again, Humans Are Cthulhu to her, after all. *Sigh*

Good job.

Also:
"If infinite mulitverse theory is true, it should be expected that some universes would perfectly match to fictions of others."
Stop reading my mind. Or acknowledge that you stole that from Heinlein's The Number of the Beast like I did. ;)

Also also, if you're one of the characters in my head who have actually pierced the veil between worlds, I want to go out for drinks before you hunt me down to avenge the terrible things I've done to you.

752236

"...especially when it is so delicious and moist."

Pinkie Pie: "Look at me still talking when there's science to do, when I look out there it makes me glad I'm not you..." :pinkiehappy:

Sorry, couldn't resist doing that.

752628
S'alright.

752270
Nope. Just something I've always thought about. I probably should read more Heinlein though. Though I have no current plans to hunt you down to avenge anything, I wouldn't say no to the drinks anyway. :pinkiehappy:

752270

Oh God, you did not just link to tvtropes, did you?

Well, there goes the rest of my day. Hope you're happy. :ajbemused:

752778
I figured as much. So many people, thinking similar thoughts, somethin's bound to repeat.
Heinlein is good, definitely, though his later works tend to get "out there".

752782
*Clears throat*
Hehehehe, hahahahahahahaha, AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA!

754599

You're laughing now, but I'm actually a black belt in tvtropes from the number of times I've been there! I escaped within 5 hours. :ajsmug:

752270in the bureau verse maybe.

any other and she would be drooling at the chance for scientific knowledge.

746133

Is this a reference to The Mind Parasites by Colin Wilson? Twilight's pattern of behavior seems similar to the book so I couldn't help but wonder.

Anyway, very interesting story. Twilight's rising levels of panic were particularly well conveyed.

755928
Can't say I've ever heard of that actually.

That was chilling, creepy, and all around subtly terrifying to read with an ending worthy of a creepypasta.

Absolutely loved it. Kudos. :moustache:

Universe: Ok, Twilight, roll your SAN check.
Twilight: *rolls* I failed.
Universe: Twilight, you don't have enough remaining sanity. You go insane.
Twilight: :twilightoops::twilightangry2: Wait wait wait! I cast a memory spell and erase my mind!
Universe: Ok. You forget everything, and wake up. You see a journal that says "URGENT! READ!" on the cover. What do you do?
Twilight: Well, of course I'm gonna read it. If it says URGENT and READ in my own writing, I must have a good reason for it. *Reads*
Universe: Ok, Twilight, roll your SAN check.

Delightful read. Certainly would make sense. Pinkie being Pinkie is just too improbably insane for anything to work.
