An alternate universe story, in which Twilight Sparkle was born a pegasus, not a unicorn. Because of this, she isn't Princess Celestia's personal student at the School for Gifted Unicorns, and she can't wield the Element of Magic. Can she still help save the world from Nightmare Moon? Or will she fall under the dark powers of nightmares?

This was somewhat inspired by Rainbooms and Royalty, a story in which Princess Celestia picks Rainbow Dash to be her personal student.

Finding herself with wings and unusually powerful magic, Twilight Sparkle proceeds to have breakdown after breakdown, until with the help of her friends, she confronts Celestia and Luna about it... And learns that she's a far more important little pony than she ever imagined - for all the wrong reasons.

How would things be different if Twilight had never made it to Ponyville? Twilight Sparkle finds out just how different things could be when she is forced to travel to her own past while chasing down a mystery; a plot to erase Princess Twilight Sparkle from history.

Landing in a time just weeks after the one thousandth Summer Sun Celebration, she finds a world shrouded in an eternal night, where the Elements of Harmony were never recovered. Can she fix the things that should have, but didn't happen? Or is this Equestria destined to head down a different path?

Twilight Sparkle broke time when she got her cutie mark. Now Twilight and Sparkle are sisters from another time. Twilight is hailed as the potentially greatest light magician of all time, and already has a reputation as a hero by the time she goes to Ponyville. This isn't her story, not primarily.

Sparkle is an orphan - her dark magic killed her parents. She lives with her brother in Canterlot's industrial sector because they can't afford anything better. She can't leave either. She's a natural dark mage; while Sparkle won't go mad like Sombra, her reputation is hardly any better. Worse, the law doesn't see her as a good pony.

The fact that the dead don't stay dead around her, or that Thorn - Spike's double - is an undead, soul-eating abomination, are other matters altogether.

Thanks to Twilight Sparkle's meddling, a critical element of Starlight Glimmer's stolen time-travel spell has failed, casting her across the timelines and stranding her in one where she doesn't belong.

But Nightmare Moon, the new ruler of Equestria, isn't so bad. Ponies still have lives and a few important freedoms, and that has convinced Starlight Glimmer she was right. Twilight and her friends aren't that special! With moral certitude as her guide, Starlight once more finds her place as a preacher of her anti-cutie mark ideology.

Then Nightmare Moon notices.

This story was inspired entirely by a conversation with Penalt, Damaged, and HiddenMaster.

Something strange is going on in Canterlot. During a visit with her friends, Twilight is mysteriously murdered, but is given a chance to prevent it when a mysterious helper grants her the power to travel through time. Now Twilight must make use of this new power to prevent her death as well as uncover the identity of her killer. But who is her mysterious helper? Is her first death the only one she'll have to worry about? And can she keep this a secret from her friends and family so that they don't end up as targets too?

Although this fic is listed as a sequel, you won't be missing anything if you read this fic without reading Never Had.

After traveling through time to stop Starlight Glimmer from changing the course of history, Princesses Celestia and Luna give Twilight Sparkle the opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to study under Star Swirl the Bearded himself! Nothing can go wrong with such a powerful time travel spell in such capable hooves. Twilight knew there was something familiar about Clover the Clever when she read the Journal of the Two Sisters, but she never knew exactly how familiar.
