It's very good of you to provide all these alternate endings, though I hope you won't think me rude for giving this particular one a miss.

114765 Not in the least, that would be very rude of me if I did. Everypony is different, and grimdark certainly isn't for everyone! :pinkiecrazy:

114871 I've read some grimdark, but.... Seeing as how the normal ending dissolved me into my basic component tear ducts, I'm going to have to pass this one by. If it had actually been in this chapter, than I would not have been able to. But, as you say, we only have a link here, and I don't feel very clicky right now.

God, I wish I had your powers of awesome tear-jerkery! Waah! My fics are definitely crap compared to this...

... Not to be taken as a criticism of you, of course. I just suck. You? You're awesome. :rainbowkiss::fluttercry:

Keep writing forever, Smayds. :yay:

West Lander, signing off with a heavy heart.

Seeing as I have stopped watching the show and hate it when ponies are mentioned on non- pony related stuff I'm not a brony, or a clostet brony.:moustache:
Infact, I'm only really here for the Doctor who and gridmark stuff.
Do read some others that are good, but a friend that is a brony, said and I quote:"You are not a brony, your on Fimficton but you are just not a brony".
Not a Brony.

Should i read this....... totaly! :trixieshiftleft:

114765 same here. I just... dont like grimdark/tragedy

125187 Epic. I seem to have channeled him in more ways than one, then :pinkiehappy:

For those who don't want to read the grimdark ending (and I don't blame you for a moment if you don't - FiM is supposed to be happy candy-coloured ponies, after all), here's the line from the description of Flare that's not in the 'canon' story:

"The horn on its forehead was very long, and very sharp, with glittering jagged protrusions every few inches that seemed to follow some half-forgotten ancient pattern of absolute elemental horror and destruction."

I.E. Dinobot's sword, unintentionally. Hasbro would be proud :scootangel:

:applecry:So beautiful. It made me cry the manlyest tears of manlyness :applecry::fluttercry::raritycry:

84896 RL? Heared of it. Did a bit myself to get a taste.
The balancing is horrible! Some players get INSANE starting positions, both ways. :derpyderp2:

84866
what the ... hay? (damh these ponies! they drive me to change my vocabulary!):derpytongue2: (NOOOO BAD EMOTICON!)
...
...
Anyways, nice little short, mad me laugh. Now please excuse me as I try to clean the ponies from my brain.

Oh... Oh god...
You make me cry tears of sorrow and joy at the same time.:fluttercry: I have only six words to describe this.
This is the best fanfic. Ever.

SHIT JUST GOT FEAL:flutterrage:

I love the brony who made this. Your writing is so...so beautiful :fluttercry:. I would give someone a dollar every mistake they found. It's just so, so, :raritycry:... I'm "sniff" sorry, it's just so beautiful:heart:

Assuming by Bad Religion. Another great song to cry over when reading this is Swing Life Away by Rise Against.

I shall read this story : D.From the comments, it sounds damn good!

And btw,I love the little parts of "Good Morning/Good Night, Goddess'.Reminds me of this line that basically is true:

"The story ends where it begins."

This story is beyond anything i have read so far and extremely happy that i have found it. just getting to the area of the grim dark bits, haven't started it yet and I'm extremely pleased with the way this story is. I would love to see a movie about this because it would be absolutely incredible if there was one made for this story. Aside from that point i couldn't stop reading this at all, i got hooked from the very moment i started reading. I'm not one to criticize about spelling mistakes, grammar, etc i just like to enjoy a good story, weather this story did or didn't have any i don't care but i enjoyed every last bit of this, the alternate endings were amazing to say the least. You did absolutely amazing, i tip my hat to you and hope you can think of more incredible stories like this one. I rarely read a book or stories because they rarely catch my interest, but this, seeing the chapters it had, and the length of each chapter kept everything well. Thank you for this story it kept me entertained through many hours into the night/morning :rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::pinkiehappy:

Good story and I have read all endings.

I must say it was a bit desturbing whit the grim-dark thing.
A good use of insanly angry/Rapidashed/Ponytafied alicorn Twi as the Lunacy.
You have also whit that standard ending given a good but a bit sorrow ending.
The gaveyard in the epilog ending was making me wana cry put i culd not. I think that I wuld have cryed if I don't had read My little Dashie.
And the ending where here friends had got imortality from the elements was prety good but it felt like a kliche. But I give you 5/5 stars, 3 :moustache::moustache::moustache: ,2 :rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh: and 1 :facehoof:

OH MY LORD!!
This was just an amazing story! NO! Amazing doesn't begin to cover it.

The character interactions, the drama (there were points where I actually thought that Twilight was going crazy), the action (bada** Nightmare Moon!), everything here is just so great. And it all wraps up in an ending that, despite claims to be sad, is instead...peaceful. That's the only word I can use to describe it. The 'super happy' ending wasn't bad either, but I thought you ended that one a little too quick.
This is just a truly amazing story. GAH! I used that word again, even after I said that it's not enough.

omg 666 likes D:

FUCKING AMAZING:pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy:. This just happens to be my very favorite stories EVAR!!!!!:twilightsmile:

This...I don't even...I can't even...the words I have to describe this are not even in the human vocabulary.I know nothing more than human vocabulary,so technically I have no words to explain this.In fact.I'm speechless. This is something even to rival My Little Dashie.Yes.I went that fucking far! This is going into my favorites.I will recommend this to some Youtube users.I will recommend this to some Skype users.I will recommend this to some friends irl.

Quite simply to put it,this is what I look like right now

I preferred the happy ending where all of her friends lived together with Twi,Celestia, and Luna forever.I cried.Cried oh so very much.I love you. That is quite simply...oh my god...I can't even complete this comment...I am ending this comment.Good day.Thank you for the fiction.:moustache:

The canon ending is actually happier than the sad one, when you think about it. Forever is a long time. A bit too long, when you think about it.

The official ending made me cry so freaking much. I would hate you, but it was just so beautiful.

I just finished the story and all the endings and you know what.... this needs a sad tag :raritycry:
ohh yeah and oh.my.gosh the grimdark ending was so freaking grimdark it was a good idea you gave it its own story entry:moustache:

478444 I think I'll pass then... I can enjoy some grimdark but I'm one of the ole' fashioned "Good will inevitably triumph over evil one day it's the nature of the universe" guys. An immortal bringer of all things destructive like the creature in the ending chapters previous would probably leave me washing my mind with soap.

As much as I would like the happyhappyhappy ending to be canon, I find myself drawn to the bittersweet ending due to it being the most logical (If that is even the word to use.) The Grim-dark one was 'meh', definitely a well written story, but not my cup of tea.

In response to the self-critique: HORSEAPPLES. This is a lovely story and it had me gripped. Great job.

A good story overall. The canon ending was heart wrenching. Well played. Thats going to linger in my mind for a bit. So much turmoil to bear for so long, especially on someone like her.

Okay, I really liked this one. Got me crying, and cheering. The canon ending is best, IMO.

As for your self criticism, I'll put it this way; if I were to compare this story to a movie, it would be Avatar. Maybe not the deepest story, and very similar to others in some substantial ways, but knew exactly how to sink in some good emotional hooks, and was damn impressive ''visually'' (I also like the image of Pinkie riding into battle atop a dragon - good times).

Again, the canon ending was best. Lots of fics try and deal with immortality, but yours did better than most, IMO. I've read an awful lot of fiction dealing with the psychology of a mortal turned immortal (it's a popular trope in certain genres) and your take of ''It's cool for a while, until the grief makes the brain collapse'' is, to my mind, the most reasonable.

Thank you for the very entertaining read.

This was my very first fanfic, so i dont have other experiences to compare with. But this was really awesome ! I just finished watchin' MlP:FiM and thought 'now its over, i have to wait for season 3' but then i discovered THIS... awesomeness. And to be honest: the very ending was reall really sad. Tears on my screen while reading the writing on the tombstones :fluttercry:

Wow, the bittersweet ending has me crying, A story hasn't had me cry for over four years, tear up sure, but not like this. This is AMAZING, Thank you for a increadablesp?) story I started reading earlier today and just couldn't stop. Would yo be willing to take a look at a story I'm working on? I'd really like your advise. I'd send you a private message but I don't know how on this sight, I'm used to fanfiction, not Fimfiction. XD
Again, Thank you!

THIS WAS AN AWESOME:pinkiehappy:STORY!!!! It may have possibly made me jump off the deep end for a second time :scootangel: but it was an awesome story

This story has been one of the best i have ever read
I salute you.

This is an amazing fic. Possibly one of the best of all time.

SO MANY TEARS!

Story was nice. So and so at moments, and my main critique is that Twilight's downward path started nearly immediately and went damn fast.

But that ending. 3xSunrise one.

On one hand beautiful. On other hand, as others said before, forget about manly tears, I wept. Epilogue chapter kinda tells you bluntly its coming. But seeing it like that. Repeated punches to the stomach, and to the heart.

1180516
I can sympathise, I still have to forcefully stop myself from thinking about it to not become depressed, and I read it 5 weeks ago.

Went 8 years getting banged up and and even shot once without sheding a tear. Then you people go and make these sad stories. Thank you.:twilightsheepish:

This story reminds me of skulduggery pleasant books where one of the characters has this conflicting emotions.
Also I have to say while the grimdark version was well grim and dark I think it was very well written.:fluttercry:

The canon ending was the saddest imo. Grimdark is just lolgrimdark.

Ok, there are just too many endings and none of them are quite satisfactory.. :ajbemused:

Just a quick few thoughts about this story. I really liked it, this is the kind of story I enjoy, it actually makes you wonder what is going to happen. But the endings...

I mean, in and of themselves, the ending is servicable, this might be just my opinion, but they are also the kind of ending I dislike the most. Time lapse endings. Because they just skip all the drama and intrigue and then just go 'There! All tied up in a neat little bundle!' I know other people may prefer them but it just irritates the hell out of me Especially as there is a sequel to this, we already know how it's going to end, and for me that is the worst thing, I can't read a story when I know it's end, it just doesn't feel worth it.

I also can't help but feel the story also contradicts itself a lot or doesn't explain things like 'the third alicorn will embrace and control the lunacy'

'Oh wait, no they won't'

I know there was the whole thing of maybe it wasn't Twilight after all, but it still feels underdone.

Also it goes from 'I can deal with this' to 'Shit is getting real' far too quickly for my liking, and again, it's because of time lapse, I mean, between deciding how to handle the situation and going beserk, there are only two incidences that are gone into in any detail.

And then there's the ending (the 'official' one) they go on and on about how an alicorn's mind is different and how she'll be able to deal with this, and then 'Nope! No you can't!'

Having read your self-critique, I can't help but feel you should give yourself more credit as a writer, this story had some really unique points in it, and that's what got me interested, I love to see what different people's takes on the same genre will be like and in fact I am currently working on an alicorn-based story myself. But I can't help but feel like it seems you back out of certain things in this story, it could seriously have been twice, maybe even three times as long. Maybe you didn't want to write that much, but it feels like it could've been.

I know it sounds like I'm just bitching at you, and I hate it when I sound like, because I know I do it all the time, but this is a well-written story with its own take in a well-used story-type, especially recently. I just feel that if things weren't glazed over so often, or just plain skipped then things would be improved. I know the sequel goes back to explain the husband and daughter, but it just feels like its too late, as I mentioned, the suspense is gone, we already know what's going to happen, maybe you'll surprise us in-story, I don't know, I'll have to read it. But we all know where its going to end up.

Anyway, that's enough from me, i think.

1812693 And that's where complication arises. You wouldn't want to outlive your friends, but those friends have their own frineds they wouldn't want to outlive and so on. Resulting in everyone having to be immortal or no one.

As for the story... (I read the Self-Critique, just imagining how I'd be written differently) I really liked the beginning, Twilight suddenly becoming Alicorn, confronting Celestia about it, learning about the prediction. It would work as a nice openning for greater adventure story.
Then it's like you'd decided to cam the "boring" build-up in a short part and jump right over to the grand finale full of epic battles and magical explosions like it were straight from the pen of Michael Bay (not meant in a negative sense). :moustache:
I don't think you can't write, quite the opposite. The story was kinda obvious/predictable and some possibly important story-building parts were compressed or left out but, it was written fairly well, in other words, it has potential as do your writing skills.
On the other hand, DAT Epilogue (Sunrise, Sunset, Sunrise I mean). That one was perfect. :pinkiesad2:
How dare you make me feel the feels! :flutterrage:

And then it was revealed that Twilight WILL become an alicorn in the canon.

Well, what can I say that hasn't been said already in over 1,300 comments? This is great, wonderful story. Greenthumbed and favourited.

Surprise!
