Dear Cadance

Dear Cadance,

Oh my gosh.

OH MY GOSH.

Have you finished it?! Daring Do and the Insufferable Trio?! Luna reads so much slower than me and I need somepony to talk about it!

PLEASE TELL ME YOU’VE FINISHED SO WE CAN TALK ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED. PLEASE.

Signed,

Princess Celestia

Dear Aunt Celestia,

OF COURSE I FINISHED IT!

SUGAR SONG AND DARING DO ARE TOTALLY ABOUT TO KISS AND THEN SUGAR SONG GETS ABDUCTED BY AHUIZOTL! WHAT THE HECK?!

I MEAN, THIS MUST BE THE START OF A COMPLETELY NEW PLOT ARC! I CAN’T BELIEVE SHE MANAGED TO DO SUCH A BIG THING RIGHT AT THE END OF THE BOOK!

With love,

Princess Cadance

Dear Cadance,

I KNOW RIGHT?! THIS IS SO AWESOME! THIS IS THE BEST BOOK EVER!

Oh, I’m dying to know how Luna is going to react to the whole thing, really. I mean, SugarDo is pretty much canon now, because OH MY GOODNESS SUGAR SONG AND DARING DO ALMOST KISS AND NOW SUGAR SONG IS SUPPOSEDLY DEAD!

I’m pretty sure she’s going to have a heart attack!

And you know what’s the best part? THE SEQUEL HAS ALREADY BEEN ANNOUNCED!

Signed,

Princess Celestia

Author's Note:

After the last episode, I thought I needed to give some closure to this story. Now I really think it's complete.

This is officially an Alternative Universe now, I hope nobody minds. One can think that Velvet is the writer and Daring Do just tells her what she did, though, but I prefer this idea of Velvet just being the writer.

Daring Do being real is very cool though.

Oh, also a sequel. This wasn't exactly planned as a sequel announcement, but I ended up writing both things at the same time, so I thought "why not?"

Also, Luna likes to read slowly so she can enjoy the book better. Celestia and Cadance like to read as fast as possible to know the ending.

YEEEEEEEEEEEAH!

3598183 that or the reward is named after the successful series...............

that or twilight velvet was secretly also a agent relic hunter like Daring Do is, but is not retired.

Yay!!!! ANOTHER CHAPTER AND A SEQUEL :rainbowkiss:

This was pretty funny. Feel bad for Velvet though.

What does it matter if it's canon or not if the story is told properly?

Even stories supposedly in the canon world can be awful. And on the other hoof, I've read quite a few non-canon stories that are magnificent.

I've also read stories that purport to be in-universe, when in fact things happen that would NEVER be allowed in either the show or comics, such as ponies brutally beating something until it's bleeding and broken and near-death. :twilightoops:

Point is, keep doing what you're doing with this story and sequel. It's funny and keeps its own continuity and tone. The characters are well-written and the humor is delightful.

I have to say, though, isn't it hilarious that the message of the episode was basically, "Bother the writers enough and your character will get in the series if you find some way to save their lives?" :rainbowlaugh:

so this story is in the same canon as the comics?:pinkiegasp: I didn't think any-one else caught that.:pinkiehappy:

It doesn't have to be AU, just have Velvet be Daring Do's public facade. Velvet takes the credit, Daring Do can keep on sending her stories. And Velvet is just keeping her secret

OMG! :pinkiehappy:

I immediately thought about this story when the episode aired. :pinkiegasp: I kinda like this one better though.:twilightblush:

Fanfillies are best Princesses. :rainbowlaugh:

Stupid new episode ruining all of our things.

I kinda wish that I found this story a couple days ago. I could've compared it to the new episode.:derpytongue2:

Nice, ha ha. :rainbowlaugh:

3605970 in the comics twilights mom is the writer of daring do.

3606397

Is that in the latest issue? I haven't had a chance to read it.

3607157

It's shown in issues #11 and #12, the ones that explain Shining Armor and Cadance's story. However, it's a background thing -Velvet is shown to have won at least two prizes as a respected author and one of them has the words "DARING DO" written all over.

The blindbag toys also say Velvet is a writer.

3598644

It was based on the idea introduced by the comics, yes.

I thought the author o daring do was A.K. Yearling. :rainbowhuh:
I also saw a vid on rd's parents and it said that the author was rd's dad
but what I don't understand is how they look almost exactly the same!
I am just confused, cause if one of the mane sixes' parents wrote the daring do books it would make sense why they look alike.
:twilightangry2: CONFUSED!!!!

3609122 This was written before the new episode that's why she made it an alternate universe. In the FiM Comics Twilight Velvet is the author of Daring Do but now in the series it's A.K. Yearling.

Personally my headcanon was that Fluttershy wrote the Daring Do books to pay the bills on that cottage and enough food for an entire petting zoo (plus a bear), but whatever. What matters is telling good stories, not clinging slavishly to canon. Anyway, poor, poor Twilight's Mom. :fluttercry:

3610328 THANK YOU wish more people thought like that

Very great story, hilarious! :pinkiehappy:

Always nice to have closure after an over-stressed, psychotic mare tries to undo the existence of those (supposedly) so precious to her. Still, the tale was a laugh riot! :scootangel:

I saw it first.

Oh my effing god.

This is so getting a second sequel.

Why can I only give this one like? :pinkiehappy:

I made the mistake of reading this at work, holding back the laughter was almost painful :pinkiegasp:

You really should put an AU tag on this tory

3963653

It was written before Daring Don't, so it wasn't an AU by then, and I don't like that tag. It's not needed, technically.

The sequel that has Daring Do books as a plot point do have that tag, however.

3963657 Actually I think it's needed

A.K. Yearling (a.k.a. the legitimate Daring Do)

3964236

The story was written before Daring Don't, so in this 'verse, A. K. Yearling doesn't exist.

3964237 :rainbowlaugh: I understand, I understand. Other than that, it was overall a great story; a well-deserved like :pinkiehappy:

This is one of the most hilarous things I've ever read! I love correspondence-style stories. Have ever since Naked Quidditch.

Moving on to Twilight DONE! now.

3964283

Dear god, Naked Quidditch. I loved that story. I had completely forgot about it!

I'm going to re-read that shit right now. Dang son, thanks for mentioning it.

3964283
Hell yes! Naked Quidditch is one of my top favorite fanfics of all time. :ajsmug:
You have good taste, my friend.

Pretty sure one of the S4 episodes revealed daring do to be the author...

3969705

What?
I mean... What? Where? Wait, was that a reference to Velvet not getting the subtext of her own books? Because otherwise I'm confused :rainbowhuh:

3969726

Yes, this was written way before that. Like, two weeks before that. Hell, it was quite the shock for me when I heard the title of that episode for the first time.

3970133
Wait, Velvet didn't get the subtext in her own books? I thought Twilight was just seeing romance when it wasn't there? Your confused response is confusing me...

Though I think Oxyaction's comment was just joking about Twilight's seeing romance where the author herself hadn't meant to put it there. He used Twilight's words, after all. He also possibly used TwiDash because of how Luna thought - pairing the smart one with the strong and brave pegasus one. You know, from the right perspective, that could be seen as romantic subtext in your fic. :rainbowwild:

I would just like to say that I am totally on Twilight Velvet's side. Through all of this.
I really like her in this story.

4017819

Velvet didn't get the "subtext" in her books because it really wasn't there... Or was it? That joke was both about people with shipping googles not being able to tell a normal scene from a romantic one and about authors who write obviously UST-filled stories and don't realize it, so it goes both ways. I've been in both situations a couple times.

...

Like with this story, apparently. Luna was just talking about the books, you guys. She wasn't thinking about Twilight at all.

I personally believe that Rainbowdash's father wrote the series but ever since that episode......Well you know if you keep up with the show. :unsuresweetie:

Not a lot to say about this one, other than that it's one of those I need to be wary of reading on trains, for fear of other passengers wondering what the badly muffled giggles are for!

Hey, I wrote a review for this story, as well as the other two in the series. I can be found here.

Overall, I found it to be a very fun comedy, full of little moments and a great grasp on characterizations. The other two weren't as amazing as this first one, but were still very enjoyable in their own way.
