I don't know what to believe anymore. I was sure they were all monsters, all demons bent on destroying any peace I and my new friends might find in this life.

I was wrong.

Instead of burning this world down around me, their weapons are pointed away from the planet, not towards it.

As if that conundrum wasn't perplexing enough, I also have to deal with finding my own place in this odd, yet familiar society. But how does one simply go back to being normal? Especially knowing that the real monsters that caused this mess in the first place could be just around the corner?

After all, it's not like I'll ever see my home planet again. They may not be here to hurt me or my friends, but I still don't trust these 'friendly' aliens to get me a ride home...

SGT Jennings dropped into New Mombasa to take over a Covenant cruiser. When a lucky Anti-Aircraft shot takes away his ability to control his pod, he careens end-over-end into a slipspace portal, and emerges in Equestria.

Be warned, there is more cursing in the beginning then there will be later, due to an all-military environment in the beginning.

This is the first book of The Humanity Within Trilogy. Its sequel is What I've Done.

Events of the first story are explained within this story: this is an open sequel.

Princess Cadence and Shining Armor have been wedded, and the Changeling menace has been repulsed. Life it seemed was returning to normal. As the weeks pass, however, the royal family is rocked by an unexpected death, and in the face of this and a renewed Changeling scare, Equestria is tossed into a state of upheaval, all while Discord's stony prison begins to weaken. Events that have been nearly fourteen hundred years in the making are now unfolding in concert, all under the guidance of some mysterious Conductor who has been influencing countless individuals, from Princesses Celestia and Luna, their mother the Maiden, to Adam the Human. How will the Elements of Harmony, the Princesses, and all the other beings involved struggle to prevent the outbreak of an Equestrian civil war and the threat of a released Discord?

NOTE TO NEW READERS: I've completed the full rewrite of this story, but if you wish to see the original story as well it will remain below the revised chapter entries. Because several chapters were expounded on or compressed together there's unfortunately no real corresponding order between where events appear in the "Revised" and "Original" chapters.

NOTE TO RETURNING READERS: This rewrite was more than skin deep. While core events will largely remain the same, the plot's events may still unfold in drastically different ways in terms of scenes and details from what you previously experienced. Hopefully the new interpretation of events will be an improvement in your eyes.

Our narrator has seen the darker side of life; abandoned, homeless, and finally chosen by a think-tank to serve in an experiment against his will. In their attempt to teleport him across continents, he was instead dumped into the Void between universes, where his only chance to exist again was to reach for the light.

By chance or purpose, he later finds himself in a world strangely similar to the one he had always known, but is yet completely alien; a world populated by many colored horses who can speak, think, fly, and even do magic. This is the story of that man. This is an adventure that was never supposed to happen. This is A Journey Unthought Of: A human's life in Equestria.

NOTE: This story has been marked 'Crossover' because the Earth the protagonist comes from is the one in the Doctor Who universe. The Doctor will also make appearances in later chapters.
