Not everyone has the steel in their spine to be the weapon of purpose that Sunset is. She knows what her surrogate mother needs from her, and what is asked of her, and all her life she has accepted that she would always be the sum of that purpose: the steel and strength of the Solar Princess.

Now, things have changed, and the weapon wants more than a sheathe. She wants more than to be swung in battle against those who would make brittle the rule of law and the power of the throne. Sunset knows how to swing both blade and magic, but swinging human is something completely different.

Sunset Shimmer graduated from her place as Celestia's student a year ago and earned her position not only as a sorceress of fire but as a knight of considerable prowess. With her duty weighing her down, and her role as the Princess' blunt instrument leaving her isolated, Sunset's only real friend is a simple gardener.

Applejack and her friends has noticed that their best friend Rainbow Dash has been acting a little different lately. She seems actually happy to come to school!

While the other girls brush this change off, Applejack gets even more suspicious when she sees that her brother has been acting different as well!

Trouble ensues as Applejack is determined to find out what is causing the changes in her friend and her brother, and wonders if the changes could be related with one another.

It’s been five years since Rainbow Dash and Big Macintosh became a couple. It’s been five years since Applejack put their relationship in danger. It’s been the best five years of Rainbow Dash’s life. She and her boyfriend had spent so much time together over the past five years, and now that she is fresh out of college, she decides that they are ready to move in together!

It’s a big step, but the two both believe that the time is right. However, Sugar Belle, a young, beautiful, and sweet woman introduces herself and Rainbow’s neighbor and later discovers that Big Macintosh moved in as well. It turns out that both Big Mac and Sugar Belle have dated, and have a very special bond.

What does this mean for Rainbow?

Sunset Shimmer never really had a childhood or someone to teach her what she needs to know. So, after the fall formal, Sunset is faced with changes she is not yet ready for: friends and family who are willing to show her just what she's been missing. Will she accept accept this newfound solace or will her fears and insecurities get the better of her? Will she even have a choice?

Sunset Shimmer ran away. There's really no other way to say it. One can call it exile, tactical retreat, or even a permanent change in residence, but the facts are the same. She turned her back on the only reality she had ever known, and ran away. By the time she stopped to look back, the damage was done. It was too late. Celestia would never forgive her. She would never forgive herself.

As they try with all their might to earn back their friend's trust, they quickly come to learn that they know very little about Sunset and the world she hails from.

And worse for the girls, as Sunset begins to pick up the shards of her old life in Equestria, she begins to wonder whether she really wants to stay at CHS at all.

When magic goes wrong, it can have disastrous results. For example, you might end up with two fillies when you only expected one.

An episodic tale about motherhood, two diverging lives, and reckless use of incredibly powerful magic by everypony involved.

Twilight Sparkle is the best student at Crystal Prep Academy, and while she’s pretty happy with her situation, her unofficial big sister, Cadance, keeps telling her to try and make friends.
