The Big Move

A short, middle-aged woman stood with tears in her magenta eyes. She wore a large, sad smile on her freckled face. Her short, pink hair hung just a small bit above her shoulders as she looked at her daughter. Her name was Windy Whistles, and she had just finished helping her twenty-two-year-old daughter pack up to live in a new home with her boyfriend. There, in the doorway of her small home stood her rainbow haired daughter smiling back at her right next to her partner. Windy Whistles suddenly began to remember all of the moments she’s had to raise her only child, Rainbow Dash. Rainbow inherited her light blue skin and bright magenta eyes, yet everything about her reminded her of her husband, Bow. Rainbow not only adopted his prismatic hair, but also his smile, attitude, determination, and love for soccer. He sadly passed away when Rainbow was just seven years old, but Windy could tell that Rainbow wanted to make him proud.

Rainbow had met her boyfriend, Big Macintosh when she had first moved to town in the third grade. The two did not end up falling for each other until Rainbow’s junior year in high school. Windy remembered when the two had first started their relationship. That night, Rainbow came home with the biggest smile Windy had ever seen on her daughter’s face. She couldn’t stop smiling as she told her mother that she had found her first love. Windy knew that whoever had caught Rainbow’s heart must have been amazing because it was rare for her daughter to have crushes or to show any signs of affection.

However, as Rainbow told Windy about him, Windy saw how happy that this guy had made her. It seemed to be as if Rainbow became even happier as the time went on. Soon after, Rainbow had invited him over for dinner, and he accepted the offer, willing to meet her mother. When Windy laid her eyes on him, it was almost that she felt that he was the one. He had emerald green eyes that complimented his peach-colored skin. He had freckles that stood out dramatically, and he had short honey-colored hair. He was tall and broad, yet Windy later learned that he was very quiet and shy. It was almost impossible to figure out how Rainbow fell for him, as they had so many differences. Windy then saw how the two looked at each other, love both clearly found in their eyes. He constantly checked up on both her and on his girlfriend, and he was well-mannered and polite.

Windy felt that nothing would go eerie between the couple, but was almost proven wrong. She remembered one day when her daughter didn’t return home. After calling thousands of times, Windy was close to calling the police. However, just as she was about to, she had gotten a call from Rainbow’s best friend, Fluttershy. Fluttershy explained that Rainbow would be staying over that night and that things weren’t okay between her and Big Macintosh. Windy recalled Rainbow coming home the next day and locked herself in her room. She heard her daughter’s soft sobs coming from the other side but wanted to give her space.

It had broken Windy to see her daughter so hurt. Rainbow was never one to express her feelings, she always held it in and kept as strong as she could, a trait she had gotten from her father. Her daughter also doesn’t usually come to Windy whenever she is upset. Windy knows that she wants to seem strong for her mother so that she wouldn’t have to worry. She feels as if she burdens her mother, and that since her father is gone she has to be as happy as possible.

Just a few hours after Rainbow locked herself up, Big Macintosh and his sister knocked on the door, pleading with Windy to let them in and fix things. She reluctantly let them in, not wanting them to hurt her child even more than they already did.

However, after a few hours, Rainbow was heard laughing from behind the door. Windy was relieved that they had seemed to make up, but she was more relieved to see her daughter happy, and not broken again. The couple had apparently broken apart, but Big Macintosh explained that he was only looking out for Rainbow Dash and Applejack’s friendship. Windy was confused at first, but she learned that both Applejack and Rainbow had an argument, and he thought that if their friendship had ended, Rainbow’s heart would have shattered.

She saw that he didn’t do it to break Rainbow’s heart, but to save it. He just wasn’t thinking. Windy came to the conclusion that Big Macintosh was the only one fit for her daughter, and nothing would ever change that.

Now, here she was five years later, watching her daughter make the next big step in life. It was bound to happen one day, and Windy didn’t want her child to live with her forever, yet it was still heartbreaking to watch her only child growing up. Rainbow was standing next to her boyfriend, who had just finished packing the last of Rainbow’s belongings. Rainbow’s long, chromatic hair was tied up in a high ponytail and her white t-shirt was covered in a bunch of grey and blue paint, most likely from renovating her apartment.

“My little baby bird is leaving the nest!” Windy whimpered, her voice cracking as she cried. She leaned over and pulled her only daughter into a tight hug.

“Mom, I told you that I’m not moving that far away,” Rainbow sighed as if she were annoyed, yet she hugged her mother back just as tight. Rainbow seemed to act as if she were fine, but deep down, Windy knew that she was just as emotional.

“And you,” Windy broke the hug and turned to Big Macintosh, her hand cupping his cheek, “I don’t think I would be any happier knowing that you are the one who stole my daughter’s heart. Her father would love you.”

Windy noticed Rainbow’s eyes gloss with tears instantly at the mention of her father. The two were very close when Rainbow was a child, and she still misses her father dearly.

“Yeah, he would wouldn’t he?” Rainbow added, smiling at her boyfriend.

A small smile made its way onto Big Macintosh’s freckled face, and his cheeks grew pink.

“Thank ya, Mss. Dashall,” his deep voice was soft.

“I think we should get going mom,” Rainbow said suddenly, picking up one of her boxes.

“Why, of course! I don’t want you two being out too late. You still need to get settled in your new home.” Windy agreed and gestured for the young adults to start heading out, further onto the porch.

Big Macintosh lifted a few more boxes before speaking up once more.

“Ah’ll go put these in the truck,” he stated, tilting his head to his red pickup truck that he had gotten in his senior year of high school, “Ah’ll see ya next time Miss.Dashall.”

With that, Big Mac headed down the small flight of stairs and made his way across the street where the car was parked.

Before her daughter left, Windy pulled her into one last hug. Rainbow rolled her eyes but didn’t hold back. Windy took the time to kiss her daughter on the cheek, earning another eye roll from the girl.

“If you ever need me, you let me know, you hear? You don’t have to do everything on your own,” Windy said firmly, holding her daughter’s hand.

“Of course, mom,” Rainbow replied with her raspy voice.

“I love you, Dashie.”

“I love you too, mom.” Rainbow gave her mother a toothy grin, before hopping down the stairs and got into the passenger seat of her boyfriend’s car.

Windy watched the couple drive away with more tears in her eyes. She now only had the house to herself. Walking back inside, her eyes fell on a brown picture frame holding a family portrait. She picked it up and saw herself beaming in the photo, next to a purple skinned, rainbow-haired male. His yellow eyes were bright and he wore a huge smile on his face as he held his six-year-old daughter with the same rainbow hair.

Windy’s eyes focused on the young girl sitting in between her father and mother. Her rainbow hair was tied into two pigtails, and her bangs hung over her eyes. She managed to keep a bright smile though, and her magenta eyes shimmered with happiness.

Windy smiled as she noticed how much her daughter had grown, and how successful she had become. Looking at her deceased husband, Windy gave a sad smile.

“We did good, Bow,” she said, touching his figure on the photo, “We did good,”

The sound of the keys jingled through the halls as Rainbow tried to open the door to her apartment.

“Need help?” Big Macintosh smirked, watching his girlfriend struggle.

“Nah, I got this.” Rainbow huffed.

“Alright then..” Big Macintosh looked at the ceiling, waiting for Rainbow to give in and allow him to help.

“What is wrong with this thing?” she grumbled, getting irritated with the locked door.

Big Macintosh looked down to see what was causing her so much trouble and chuckled a bit when he finally saw what was going on.

“Sweetheart,” he managed to get out through his giggles.

“What?”

“Ya gotta turn the keys left to open the door, not right.”

He watched as Rainbow paused for a moment, her face turning a shade of crimson red.

“I knew that,” she said dismissively, before finally opening the door the correct way.

Rainbow looked around at her new home with a smile on her face. The door opened into the living room, which was painted a bright, sky blue, and had a rainbow streak going along the side of the wall. The wood floor was chocolate brown. Rainbow looked to her left to see her kitchen. The countertops were made of black marble, and there was an island in the center. There was a lot of space, but there was still some furniture that needed to be placed down.

Rainbow was ecstatic. She had a place all to herself, she had just finished her four years college and had even attempted to make the Wonderbolts soccer team. She had practiced and dreamed of making the team for practically her whole entire life, and she felt as if her dream was finally coming true.

Her best friends all seemed to be doing well in life, and Rainbow saw them as much as she could.

Pinkie Pie was an energetic, pink-haired twenty-two-year-old woman. Rainbow had known Pinkie since she was just eight years old, and Rainbow believes that she had never changed. Pinkie was always bouncing around and was extremely loud, which sometimes bothered Rainbow. Nonetheless, Rainbow couldn’t help but chuckle at her friend’s bubbly nature and crazy antics. After high school, Pinkie Pie chose that college wasn’t for her, and helped run Mr and Mrs. Cakes’ bakery. They were close friends with Pinkie Pie’s mother, and Pinkie had spent a lot of time with the family. She had met a man named Cheese Sandwich just a few months ago. The two began talking and eventually started dating. Rainbow thought that Pinkie couldn’t get any happier than what she already was, but Cheese Sandwich had proven her wrong.

Rainbow’s other friends, Twilight and Sunset, had gone away to college and decided to keep going further, and since it was pretty far, the girls weren’t around as much anymore. However, whenever they had breaks, they would come over to spend time with their friends. Rainbow missed seeing her friends and teasing them for always being buried in their books, but at least they were happy.

Rarity also went off to college, and the rest of the girls quickly found out that she had put out her own line of clothing. Rainbow remembers seeing Rarity’s curled purple hair and blue eyes on a billboard while driving, advertising her new clothing line. Rarity later explained that she wanted it to be a surprise, but apparently, she had never found the time.

Fluttershy was still very close with Rainbow Dash and attended the same community college as her. She was still just as shy as she was in high school, and not much has changed in the past four years. Fluttershy wants to go back to college and prepare to become a veterinarian but would like to take a year off to explore new things and make sure that this is what she wanted to do. Fluttershy lives on her own and was single. After her small confession to Rainbow in high school, Fluttershy had never mentioned anything about finding someone to love.

Applejack on the other hand still worked on Sweet Apple Acres. She was Big Macintosh’s younger sister, and one of Rainbow’s closest friends. The two had a slight falling out in the early stages of Rainbow’s relationship with Mac, After the argument, things continued to go downhill. Big Macintosh broke up with her, Rainbow questioned her loyalty, and she felt crushed. However, the two eventually made up and Applejack had been supportive of the couple ever since. Rainbow and Applejack always competed against each other in high school, and still continue from time to time.

The past five years with Big Mac had been amazing. Rainbow felt lucky, as most people don’t usually stick with their first love, but she found as if she had found the one and didn’t need to search anymore. She was happy to be taking this next big step with Big Macintosh and his family.

Smiling, Rainbow began taking some cups and dishes out of the small cardboard box that was placed on the counter and started placing them in the cabinets above.

“Can you believe that it’s been five years since we got together?” She asked Mac, who was setting up some furniture in the living room.

“Ah know, five years of puttin’ up with you.” he smiled, waiting to see Rainbow’s reaction.

“Putting up with me?” the prismatic haired girl laughed, “Please, the only thing you’ve been putting up with is my pure awesomeness.”

Big Macintosh let out a deep, hearty laugh before getting up.

“Well, darlin’, Ah think Ah have a problem.” Mac scratched the back of his head, looking at the small issue in front of him. He had found out that he had no way to hang up any of the paintings and pictures on the wall. He also found that he was missing a few other supplies needed to finish renovating the home.

“What is it?”

“Ah’m gonna have to go to the store an’ pick up a few more things. Turns out we did have more shoppin’ to do.” Big Macintosh said sheepishly, scratching the back of his neck while getting up from one of the gray couches sat in the living room.

“I hate to say I told you so, but I told you so,” Rainbow smirked and winked. The two had bickered for a while on the way home, arguing whether or not they were done shopping for the day.

“Ah’ll be back,” Big Macintosh laughed as he headed out the door.

Rainbow proceeded to unpack and place things inside of her new kitchen, and after about twenty minutes, there was a knock at the door.

“He’s back already?” Rainbow mumbled to herself, placing a cup down on the counter. She walked over to the locked door and opened it, expecting to meet her boyfriend’s green eyes, but stepped back a bit when she was instead met with magenta ones.

Instead of her boyfriend, there was a young woman who stood with a small, pink frosted cake in her hands. Her magenta eyes sparkled as she stared at Rainbow Dash. She had curly, grape-colored hair which was tied into two short pigtails with a blue barrette. The smiling woman had a pinkish skin tone and a bright smile. Her long lashes were lined with thick, black liner and she had blush on her already rosy cheeks. She wore a light blue, sleeveless sweater, and a short bubblegum pink skirt.

“Uh...hi?” Rainbow greeted awkwardly, not knowing what to say to her eager guest.

“Hi! I don’t mean to barge in unexpected, I just heard that you were new around here, and I wanted to greet my new neighbor! I didn’t interrupt anything did I?” The young woman asked worriedly and lowered her cake.

“No, you’re cool,” Rainbow assured the girl and opened the door wide so she would be able to walk in.

“This is for you,” the girl smiled and handed Rainbow the cake she had been holding. Taking it, Rainbow smelled the scent of sweet strawberry, and she could tell that the cake had just come out of the oven.

“Thanks,” Rainbow smiled at the girl. Looking at her, Rainbow felt as if she had seen this girl before, but she couldn’t place it exactly.

“I’m Sugar Belle by the way,” The girl introduced herself, walking into the semi-empty living room and taking a seat on one of the couches. Her voice was high-pitched, yet soft like Fluttershy’s.

“Rainbow Dash,” Rainbow replied, smiling a bit.

“This is a big apartment just for one person,” Sugar Belle commented, looking around.

“That’s because I’m moving in with my boyfriend,” Rainbow admitted confidently.

“Aww, that’s so sweet!” Sugar Belle cooed and began looking at Rainbow’s hair.

“Your hair is beautiful by the way. You were born with your hair like that?”

Rainbow chuckled a bit and answered.

“Yep. My grandmother passed it onto my dad. My dad passed it on to me.”

“That’s amazing,” Sugar Belle smiled sweetly.

Suddenly, the door opened. Big Macintosh had a few bags in his hands and walked right into the kitchen, not noticing the girl sitting on their couch. Rainbow saw Sugar Belle’s eyes narrow at the sight of Big Macintosh.

“Macintosh?” Sugar Belle questioned, standing up as if she were trying to get a closer look.

Big Macintosh’s eyes widened at the sound of her voice. Rainbow raised an eyebrow but remained silent.

“S-Sugar Belle?” Big Macintosh’s deep voice quivered.

“Oh my goodness it is you!” Sugar Belle squealed before rushing over to give the broad man a hug. Big Mac hesitated a bit before hugging her back slightly.

“Ah didn’t know ya lived here…” Mac peeped as he broke the awkward hug.

“Yeah...I moved away with my mother back in high school. After I graduated, I came back to Canterlot to see if I could find you again, but I didn’t have any luck. So, I found an apartment and stayed here!”

Find him again? Rainbow pondered and thought about what Sugar Belle could have meant by that.

“It’s really nice of you to help Rainbow and her boyfriend with their big move.” Sugar Belle smiled innocently.

Rainbow’s eyebrows furrowed as she listened to what Sugar Belle had said, and was about to interject. However, Big Macintosh beat her to it.

“Well, Sugar Belle,” Big Macintosh avoided looking the sweet girl in the eyes, “Ah am the boyfriend.”

Rainbow watched as Sugar Belle’s smile faltered a bit, but managed to keep her composure.

“O-oh..” Sugar Belle said quietly, “That’s...that’s really….I’m happy for you.”

After struggling a bit, Sugar Belle put on a sad smile. The three adults fell into an awkward silence, Rainbow crossed her arms, feeling as if something had been going on between the two, and didn't want to interrupt.

Sugar Belle eventually fixed her sad mood and looked up at Big Macintosh.

“So, what do you do now? You don’t live on the farm anymore, so how do you work?” Sugar Belle asked, trying to start a conversation and end the awkward feeling.

“Oh, Ah still pitch in at the farm. Durin’ the week, Ah go over there an’ work. Ah have weekends and Fridays to myself.”

“Wow, you really are dedicated to your farmwork huh?” Sugar Belle laughed slightly.

“Well, o’ course Ah am. Ah can’t just leave my family hangin’ like that.” Mac replied without hesitation.

Rainbow smiled sweetly at her boyfriend’s loyalty. It was one of her favorite things about him and one of the reasons as to why she fell for him. He cared about his family, and even if he was miles away, he would still figure out a way to help them.

However, Rainbow stopped smiling when she saw that Sugar Belle seemed to be looking at him the exact same way. Her eyes sparkled with admiration, and she had a dreamy smile plastered on her face.

“You didn’t change one bit…” Sugar Belle giggled, yet stopped when she had seen Rainbow staring at her.

“Well,” the girl coughed awkwardly and shifted her feet, “I’ll leave you two be. You probably still have a lot more to do around here. I’m right down the hall if you guys ever need me. Goodbye!”

Sugar Belle cheered before quickly leaving the apartment, leaving the couple alone. Big Macintosh noticed the cake that Sugar Belle had brought, and his eyes quickly traveled to his girlfriend, who had gone straight back into the kitchen to unpack as if nothing happened. She had a blank expression on her face, and she said nothing. This worried Big Macintosh, as he was afraid that Rainbow had gotten the wrong idea, and he quickly spoke up.

“Darlin’ look-”

“Mac, it’s fine.” Rainbow interrupted him, not giving him one glance.

“But-”

“I told you, it’s fine.” Dash repeated, closing the cabinet and looked at her boyfriend, “So, you two know each other. It doesn’t mean anything. I’m not one of those clingy, crazy girlfriends who get jealous if their boyfriend makes friends with someone of the opposite sex.”

Big Macintosh sighed and looked down at the counter.

“The thing is darlin’, she ain’t my friend.”

“What do you mean?”

“She’s...my ex.”

Rainbow grew silent before replying with a simple, “Oh.”

“We dated for a bit in high school. We started datin’ in our freshman year and broke up in the middle of our sophomore year. We had spent a lot of time together, and we were very close. Everythin’ was going fine until her ma found a new job, and she had to move across the country. We were so in love, but neither of us thought a long distance relationship would work out an’ decided it was best if we broke up. But on the day she left, Ah promised her that one day we would find each other again and pick up right where we left off…” Big Macintosh explained awkwardly.

Rainbow couldn’t help but feel as if her heart was being squeezed. Why did Big Macintosh never tell her any of this? Did he even love her as much as she thought? Her mind replayed every word that he had just said and focused on how he made it clear that the two were very in love before she moved.

She shook her head, as she thought she was being irrational but didn’t say a word.

“Rainbow Dash?”

Rainbow looked up and began wiping the counter off with a small rag.

“So...you promised her?” Rainbow asked. It was the only thing running through her mind at that moment. She cringed as her voice cracked when she spoke.

“Rainbow,” Mac sighed and quickly made his way over to Rainbow to wrap her in a tight hug.

“Listen to me,” Big Macintosh said firmly and took his girlfriend by the shoulders.

“That was almost ten years ago. Ah was fourteen, an’ she was my first love.”

Rainbow looked down as more thoughts ran through her mind. She knew that everyone always had a special connection with their first love, and by the way Sugar Belle looked at Mac, this situation was no different. If Sugar Belle never moved away, would Big Macintosh ever show any interest in her? Where would they be? What would Rainbow be doing?

She tried to push those thoughts away as much as she could, convincing herself that she was being overly dramatic. This wasn’t that big of a deal.

“I get it, Mac,” Rainbow said, trying to keep her voice from breaking again, “And I told you that it was okay. You don’t have to worry about me remember?

“Darlin’...” Mac sighed, knowing that Rainbow was upset.

“Ah love you, you know that right?”

“Of course you do, Mac.” Rainbow smiled slightly, “I love you too.”

Rainbow then realized that she had been done unpacking and setting up her kitchen.

“I’m going to go fix up our room for a bit...why don’t you go finish out here and I’ll see if I can have the room ready by the time you’re done.” Rainbow gave a small smile.

“Alright..” Big Macintosh muttered, knowing full well that things still weren’t fixed.

He watched as Rainbow silently made her way into what would be their bedroom and closed the door. He heard the sound of the door lock, and he shut his eyes.

Biting his lip, Big Mac was torn. He was upset that he had hurt Rainbow Dash. She was the love of his life, and he didn’t want to ever let her go. Maybe he shouldn’t have told her everything about his relationship with Sugar Belle. On the other hand, he saw the heartbreak in Sugar Belle’s eyes when he had told her that he moved on. He absolutely hated it, yet he didn’t want to make the situation worse.

In the other room, however, Rainbow Dash was pacing in front of the mirror that Big Macintosh had placed down.

“Get it together, Dash,” she mumbled to herself, looking at her reflection.

“So? Mac has an ex-girlfriend, he moved on and found you. He stayed with you for the past five years. He bought a whole new apartment, moved away from his family, to live with you.”

Rainbow continued to give herself a small pep talk.

“He fell in love with you because you are awesome, amazing, awesome, loyal, and did I mention...awesome?” Rainbow smirked at herself.

But a promise is a promise. You know how Mac keeps his promises.

“Shut up!” Rainbow seemed to be yelling at the voice in her head, that was doubting everything.

You heard him, they were in love. They never even wanted to break up, it was only because they were forced to. And she was really pretty, it’s possible that Mac might fall for her again.

Rainbow groaned.

“But he won’t. He wouldn’t do that…” Rainbow looked at herself in the mirror one last time, her confident grin now turning into a scared frown.

“Right?”

Rainbow awoke with a groan. She had felt as if her head was going to explode at any second, and she hated waking up and feeling miserable. As soon as she sat up, she immediately laid back down on her plush pillow. Her rainbow hair had found its way to spread all over her face, but Dash decided it was too much of an effort to clear her vision.

Rainbow didn’t take long to figure out why she had such a headache. She had been stressing out all night about Sugar Belle and her connection with Big Mac. It shouldn’t have bothered her so much, as it wasn’t anything to be worried about, but she couldn’t help it.

She looked around her room and saw that it was still unorganized, Boxes were still scattered all over the place, and shelves still needed to be placed onto the wall. Rainbow was lying on her bed and looked over to see her boyfriend sleeping peacefully next to her. His honey-colored hair was messed up and his eyes were closed and his breathing was calm. Rainbow would normally smile at her boyfriend, but she honestly felt terrible.

Not only did she have the headache, but even after nearly staying awake all night, Rainbow still had her doubts. As she thought about how terrible she felt, the headache seemed to get stronger, and all she was doing was lying down!

“Darlin’?”

Rainbow heard his deep voice mumble next to her. She turned to face him with a frown on her face.

“Rainbow Dash,” Big Mac said, waking up finally. He sat up more, seeing her miserable state.

“Are ya okay?”

Rainbow sat up slowly and looked at Mac.

“Yeah, I’m cool,” she muttered. Rainbow wanted to remain positive, as she wanted to show Mac that she wasn’t affected by anything that had happened the night before. She absolutely hated lying to her boyfriend, but she wanted to just avoid problems.

Rainbow still felt that she was upset over nothing. Sugar Belle was only Big Mac’s ex, nothing more.

But she still loves him

“Well, he doesn’t love her…” Rainbow accidentally muttered out loud. It was quiet, but Rainbow prayed that he didn’t hear her words.

“Dash, what’s wrong?” Big Macintosh asked Rainbow worriedly. Deep down, he knew what was wrong, but he didn’t think it would affect her so much.

“I said I’m fine,” Rainbow grumbled and made her way out of bed.

Big Mac decided to give his girlfriend some space, as it was always the best thing to do whenever she got like this. Getting out of bed himself, he stared at the bathroom door in which Rainbow walked into.

Not long after, Rainbow stood in the kitchen, making breakfast. After taking a few moments to herself, she began to feel better. She had taken some medicine for her headache and while taking a shower, she had come to the conclusion that things would be fine between both her and Macintosh. They had just moved in together after five years, there was no way he would leave her for another.

Big Mac slowly walked into the kitchen, thinking that his girlfriend was still upset. In all honesty, Big Mac felt extremely guilty about not telling Rainbow about Sugar Belle sooner. He thought that he was doing her a favor by keeping it to himself, but in reality, he just made her worry. On the other hand, did she not trust him?

“Hey darlin’,” Mac said softly, taking a seat in front of the small island. He smelled the scent of fresh pancakes being made. Hopefully, they would taste as good as they smell.

“Hey,” Rainbow replied simply.

“Are ya feelin’ better? Ya weren’t yourself this mornin’.” Mac asked his girlfriend, waiting for her to turn around.

Rainbow cringed a bit before turning her body to face her boyfriend. She began to place pancakes on a plate as she answered.

“Yeah, you know me though. Mornings aren’t my favorite. Of course, I’m not going to be myself,” Rainbow smiled through her lie.

“Ah guess that’s true,” Big Mac nodded. He felt somewhat relieved. Maybe she wasn’t upset about the whole Sugar Belle deal. He had tried to push away any other negative thoughts.

“But I’m okay now. I just needed a minute to get my energy, you know?” Rainbow said as she took a bite of her homemade breakfast.

Big Mac smiled as he held his fork up to do the same, but noticed his girlfriend’s disgusted expression.

“I wouldn’t eat that if I were you..” Rainbow said, slowly pushing his fork down and smiling sheepishly, earning a deep hearty chuckle from Mac.

Apparently, he would have to be the one to cook in the household.

“So, you’re tellin’ me that his ex lives down the hall from ya?” Applejack asked in disbelief, staring at Rainbow Dash.

“Yep.,” Rainbow replied with a frown.

“Well, darling, I don’t really think that you should worry about it. Big Macintosh loves you dearly.” Rarity added, giving both girls drinks.

The three girls were gathered in Rarity’s elegant living room. Rarity had just come into town for a few weeks, and Rainbow figured that she was the perfect person to talk to. As Rainbow was heading out that morning, Applejack had swung by at the same time and decided to tag along with Rainbow after seeing the frown on her face.

“I know he does,” Rainbow replied, “I trust him, of course.”

“Then what are you so upset about?” Rarity inquired, taking a sip from her mug.

“It’s just...you should have seen the look on the girl’s face when she stared at him. She is in love with him, even years after the break-up. Heck, she told us that the only reason she returned to Canterlot was to find him again!” Rainbow complained.

Applejack was silent as she thought about who this girl could be. He remembered Mac would bring a girl over all the time and they would hang out constantly. Applejack remembers the girl’s smile as she held her brother’s hands and their small walks to the fields. What was her name?

“Is this girl...named Sugar Sweet or somethin’ like that?” Applejack questioned, frustrated that she couldn’t remember.

“Sugar Belle,” Rainbow corrected.

Applejack snapped her fingers as she finally remembered the name. A frown etched her face as she recalled.

“Applejack, darling is something the matter?” Rarity asked, concerned.

“ Ah...well, it’s just that Ah never really liked her,”

“Wait, you knew her?” Rainbow’s eyes widened a bit as she looked at her green-eyed friend.

“Yes Dash, of course, Ah know her. She was my brother’s girlfriend, she came over just as much as you did.”

“Well, why don’t you like her? She was so smiley and nice there wasn’t anything not to like about her.” Rainbow spat.

“Exactly, that’s my point. Sugar Belle seemed too nice. There is no way anyone could be that...bubbly.” Applejack frowned again.

“You do know Pinkie Pie exists right?” Rainbow smirked at Applejack, earning a small giggle from Rarity.

“Of course, it’s just Pinkie is Pinkie, Sugar Belle is just different for me, y’know?” Applejack pondered.

“Yeah, I see what you mean. I felt the same way when I spoke with her. Things kind of felt off, but I didn’t want to say anything. Big Mac still seems to want to be friends with her and I don’t want to come off as that jealous girlfriend that everyone hates.” Rainbow ranted and placed her drink down. She sat back in her seat with a frown.

“I don’t think you are being a ‘jealous girlfriend’, you are just worried. You told us that this Sugar Belle is clearly still not over him, that would worry any girlfriend,” Rarity comforted the rainbow-haired girl, “I just don’t think you should be too worried. If I know Big Mac, he wouldn’t do anything to hurt you.”

This caused Rainbow to smile a bit.

“Of course he wouldn’t,” Rainbow smiled.

“Now, why don’t we get outta here, Rarity’s probably sick of us.” Applejack sighed as she began to sit up.

“What?! No! I could never be sick of you two!” Rarity quickly replied.

Rainbow chuckled lightly before saying, “Sure, but we really should be heading out. Thanks for listening.”

Rarity smiled sweetly before hugging both of her friends.

“I have to go back traveling soon, hopefully, we can meet up again in a few days!” Rarity admitted, a bit sad.

“Of course, we’ll come back! We’d never let ya go before seein’ ya off.” Applejack smiled as she headed out the door.

Both Applejack and Rainbow began walking towards their parked car in silence until Applejack spoke.

“Do ya feel better about everythin’ now?”

Rainbow hesitated and stayed quiet before answering.

“Yeah, I guess so,” she sighed, “I was never worried about Big Macintosh though...it’s just her.”

“Well, Ah doubt anythin’ is gonna happen. Don’t worry, okay?”

“I won’t.”

Not yet…

As Applejack and Rainbow approached Rainbow’s apartment door, both girls were surprised to hear the sound of laughter coming from behind the door.

“Mac, you really haven’t changed. This feels like old times.” a sweet, feminine voice came from the other side of the door.

The sound of that voice made Rainbow’s heart drop. Sugar Belle was inside of their house again, and it sounded like it was more than just a quick welcome.

“Well, Ah don’t think there really that could have changed about me.” Mac had said.

Rainbow looked down at the floor as she listened into their conversation. She felt wrong, yet she felt as if there was a flame that had been ignited in her chest. This had never happened to her before. Why did she feel so angry, yet guilty?

Mac can have friends if he wants to have friends...I have no right to keep him from that..

But they aren’t friends…

They ARE! Right?

Look, you don’t even know.

Rainbow fought with herself until she felt a hand grip onto her shoulder. She turned her head to her side and was met a pair of green eyes. Applejack stared at her with a look in her eyes that Rainbow couldn’t quite make out, yet she knew it meant that Applejack was with her.

“Big Mac?” Sugar Belle was heard from the opposite side.

“Yes?”

“Listen...I’m really happy that you’re happy but-”

“Ah am happy,” Big Macintosh interrupted, “Uh, here let me get that plate for ya.”

Applejack smirked as she listened to her brother change the subject.

“See? I told ya…” Applejack whispered, trying to comfort Rainbow.

“I should get going..” Sugar Belle said, less enthusiastic than before.

As the pair began saying their goodbyes, Applejack grabbed Rainbow’s wrist and took them down the hall, trying to make it seem as if they were just returning. The girls saw Sugar Belle walk out of the apartment, her usual smile nowhere in sight. However, when she had seen both Applejack and Rainbow Dash, the fake smile appeared magically.

“Oh, hey Rainbow!” Sugar Belle waved, then gasped, “Applejack! It’s been so long since I last saw you!”

The farmgirl found herself being pulled into a hug.

“Nice to see ya too,” Applejack forced.

“I was just stopping by to see if you guys needed help with anything, you know. Moving is a big thing!” Sugar Belle smiled.

“Thanks,” Rainbow gave a small smile.

“Anytime!”

Sugar Belle waved again before heading down to her apartment and closing her door.

Rainbow and Applejack made their way inside Rainbow’s apartment, finding Big Macintosh washing dishes.

“Oh, hey y’all.” Mac greeted.
“Hey Mac,” Applejack was the only one to respond.

“How was Rarity’s?” Big Mac asked, turning around.

“It was cool,” Rainbow replied, “What did you do while we were gone?”

“Well, Ah cleaned up a bit, Sugar Belle popped in for just a moment, about a minute or two, and Ah had a lil’ bit of lunch,” Mac explained, leaving both Rainbow Dash and Applejack confused.

“Oh..cool,” Rainbow muttered.

Why did he lie?

Confusion

Rainbow Dash and Big Mac were sat on their couch. The two decided to lay back for a bit and watch a movie. Rainbow’s head was resting on Mac’s lap, something that Rainbow had always done. However, Mac could still sense that something was wrong as if there were tension in the air. Looking down at his girlfriend, he saw that she wasn’t even paying attention to the movie, but on her phone.

“Darlin’?” Mac called.

“Hm?” Rainbow hummed, her eyes still glued to the phone.

“Is everythin’ alright?”

“Yeah, of course. Why wouldn’t everything be fine?”

“You’re jus’ a little quiet today, that’s all..”

“I’m fine,” Rainbow assured, and fell silent again.

Mac wasn’t convinced, but he decided that it was best to let it go for now. As the movie finished, Rainbow had stood up and begun washing some dishes. While Mac decided that he shouldn’t bring up how Rainbow wasn’t herself, he should at least start a conversation with her. He walked up behind her and hugged her, placing his chin on her shoulder. He saw Rainbow look over and give him a slight smirk.

“Is there something you need, Stud?” Rainbow asked.

“Ah can’t hug ya?” Mac replied, sounding hurt.

“No,” Rainbow replied, her tone low all of a sudden.

Based on her mood for the past hour, Mac didn’t know if he should take that seriously or take it as a joke. He thought that he should play it safe and let go, allowing Rainbow to turn around.

“I was kidding you know,” she smirked, taking a hair tie off of her wrist and pulling her hair back.

“Ah know,” Mac replied, relieved, “So, how was your day?”

“It was...okay I guess,” Rainbow answered as the two walked into their shared bedroom.

“Why was it just okay?” Mac asked curiously.

Big Mac could have sworn that Rainbow’s expression changed, but she waved at him and turned to grab a book.
“Nothing special happened, really. It was just normal,” she answered, getting into bed.

Big Mac got into bed as well and watched as his girlfriend began reading. He smiled slightly as he admired her. He thought about what had happened earlier in the day. After Rainbow had left, Sugar Belle had come over to help organize their living room. After the two were done, they talked for a bit. Mac had always enjoyed talking with Sugar Belle because they had so much in common. Both were shy, yet were very passionate about what they did for a living. When speaking with her, it felt as if they picked up right where they left off.

At first, Mac felt bad at the fact that Sugar Belle had returned to find him, only to discover that he had moved on. However, it had been years since Sugar Belle returned to Canterlot. She must have moved on by now, right? Even then, Mac was happy with Rainbow Dash now. He wouldn’t trade her for anything in the world. He just hoped that Rainbow would be okay with them being friends. Ever since the two had first seen each other, Mac was worried that Dash didn’t like Sugar Belle, which is why he didn’t tell the entire truth just a few hours earlier.

“Mac?”

Big Mac looked over to find Rainbow’s magenta eyes staring at him.

“Yes, darlin’?”

“You trust me, right?” Rainbow asked.

“Of course Ah do,” Mac replied with wide eyes. Why would she ask something like that?

“And I can trust you?”

“Yes, darlin’,” Mac quickly threw an arm around Dash and kissed the top of her head, “Is everythin’ okay?”

“Yeah,” Rainbow nodded, “I was just wondering..”

Mac nodded slowly, wondering what was going on. A few moments later Rainbow had buried herself under the covers and slowly began to fall asleep. Worried that she was upset, Mac wanted to just let her know that he was there for her.

“Rainbow?” Mac spoke softly, not sure if she was asleep.

“Yea, Mac?” Rainbow mumbled sleepily. She turned over to look at him, her eyes half closed.

“Ah love ya. You know that right?” Big Mac said, placing a hand on her cheek.

“I know,” Rainbow gave a tired smile, “I love you too.”

With that, Rainbow closed her eyes and drifted off. Big Mac gave her one quick peck on her cheek before lying down as well.

The sound of someone knocking on the door was enough to wake Big Macintosh from his slumber. He slowly opened his eyes, wondering who could be wanting to visit so early in the morning. Looking over at his clock, he saw that it had just past nine o’clock in the morning, which was pretty late for him. Beside him was Rainbow Dash, still sleeping soundly.

The sun shone through the window, and onto her face, making her seem even more beautiful than what she already was. Her multi-colored bangs were messy, yet it made Mac’s heart beat faster. Her breathing was steady and overall, she looked peaceful.

Mac quickly got out of bed and walked to a small mirror in the corner of the room, making sure he looked presentable before greeting whoever was behind the front door. He fixed his honey-colored hair and saw that his cheeks were bright pink against his peach-colored skin. It was normal for them to seem that way after just waking up, and he knew Rainbow loved them.

Walking out, Mac slowly opened the door to reveal a familiar smiling face. Sugar Belle was standing there with a wide smile on her face, yet the smile vanished as he opened the door.

“Oh no! Did I wake you up?” Sugar Belle asked, sounding worried.

“It’s okay, Belle,” Mac said, his voice somehow even deeper than before. It was his morning voice, he couldn’t help it. The minute he spoke, he noticed that Sugar Belle began blushing.

“I-I just wanted to drop in and make sure everything was okay,” the young woman stuttered, staring into Mac’s green eyes.

“Everythin’ is just fine,” Mac smiled.

“I’m sorry I’ve been coming over so much. You must find me annoying…” Sugar Belle’s face dropped, and she looked down at the ground.

Mac suddenly felt guilty.

“No! No, Belle, it’s fine. Ah think it’s pretty nice,” he admitted.

“R-really?”

“Of course. It’s nice seein’ you around again,” Mac said, trying to make her feel better.

Sugar Belle gave Mac a shy smile and began twirling her finger around one of her violet curls.

“Thanks, Mac,” she said sweetly, “It’s nice seeing you again too.”

“Ya want to come inside?” Mac offered, opening the door wide. He didn’t want to seem rude by making her stand outside.

“Sure,” Sugar Belle smiled again.

It was silent for a moment and Sugar Belle looked around the room.

“Where’s your girlfriend?” she asked slowly.

“Oh, she’s still asleep..” Mac smiled.

He was still confused as to why Rainbow seemed off, and he honestly didn’t know what to do. He trusted Sugar Belle, as he always did. Maybe he could ask her what to do.

“Hey, Belle?” he called out.

Sugar Belle looked up at him, her eyes sparkling.

“Yes, Mac?”

“Do ya mind if ya could give me some advice?” Big Mac asked shyly.

“Of course!” Sugar Belle’s face lit up, “Do you want to talk it over with some breakfast? I know a small diner in town somewhere..”

“That seems great,” Mac agreed without hesitation, “Ah’ll be right back.”

He then disappeared to quickly get ready for the day. As he came out of the bathroom, fully dressed, he peered into his bedroom. Rainbow was still sleeping.

Ah hope she doesn’t worry too much. Ah’ll be back soon.

“Ah’m ready,” Mac smiled, going back into the living room.

“Alright then! Let’s go!” Sugar Belle beamed. This was the happiest Mac had seen her since they had moved in.

Rainbow’s eyes finally fluttered open. She looked over at her nightstand to check the time. She was surprised to see that it was ten o’clock on the dot. When she looked to her side, she saw that she was alone. It was pretty late in the morning, so she expected Mac to have already been awake.

She slowly got out of bed, and let out a small sigh before making her way into the bathroom. Dash smiled as she had taken her shower and got ready for the day. Ever since yesterday, Rainbow was worried and confused at the fact that Mac had told a small lie, even though it was just a small hangout. Now, Rainbow was ready to start a new day and she felt pretty good.

Walking into the kitchen, Rainbow expected to see Mac at the table, eating breakfast or still fixing up some things. She was confused to find that he wasn’t there at all.

“Mac?” Rainbow called out, thinking that he would be somewhere in the apartment.

He must have gone out somewhere… she thought.

Rainbow figured that he would come back soon, so she began trying to make breakfast for the two of them. She wanted to actually try and make something that he would appreciate and something that was actually edible, so she made the effort to grab her phone and search up some recipes.

It took a while for Rainbow to make the breakfast scramble, as she wanted to make sure that everything was perfect. After about an hour, the kitchen smelled amazing and Rainbow took a small bite of one of the eggs she had made. Her eyes widened as she was surprised that they actually tasted amazing. Did she make that?

Rainbow figured Mac would be home any minute now, and she was ecstatic for Mac to try it.

Suddenly, she heard voices coming from the front door, and as soon as she heard them, her heart stopped.

“That was really fun, Mac. We should do it again sometime,” a sweet, bubbly voice said.

“Ah agree, Belle,” Rainbow heard her boyfriend say with a laugh, “And thank you for the advice. It really helped.”

“Next time...I’m paying!” Sugar Belle laughed.

“Sure ya are,” Mac said playfully, “Ah’ll see you around!”

“Bye Mackie!”

Rainbow froze for a moment. So that’s where he’s been? Why was this bothering her so much? Big Mac was allowed to go out with friends, she never had a problem with this before. What was the big deal now?

Rainbow was getting angry with herself. One day, she was okay and happy, and another day, her heart felt as if it were on fire. Before Mac opened the door, Rainbow placed her breakfast platter on the counter and walked toward the front door with a smile on her face.

When Mac finally came inside, he wore a large grin as well, but he somehow didn’t notice Rainbow standing by the couch. He walked past her, confusing Rainbow even more so until he froze.

“It smells good in here,” Mac mumbled.

“It does?” Rainbow said, trying to make her presence known.

Mac suddenly turned around with wide eyes.

“Oh, Good Mornin’,” he smiled and headed back over to her.

“Hey,” Rainbow greeted, looking around, “Where have you been?”

“Oh, Ah just went to go get breakfast with Belle. We thought it would be nice to catch up after so long.”

Rainbow felt as if her heart fell into her stomach. She had spent all of this time making breakfast, yet he already ate?

“That’s nice,” Rainbow replied softly and looked down at her feet.

This is why I don’t do “romantic”...

“What did you make in here- oh my…” Big Mac’s mouth almost fell to the ground as he walked into the kitchen, trying to discover the source of the great smell. When he saw the large plate of various foods on it, he didn’t believe it at first. Did Rainbow make all of this for him? He suddenly felt a bit guilty for eating already.

“Rainbow...did you-”

“Yeah, but it’s just as bad as the pancakes I made,” Rainbow cut him off quickly and looked at the food.

“Are ya sure? I can try it out and see,” Mac asked.
“Nope, I already did,” Rainbow suddenly took the large plate of food into her hands.

“I almost puked. Trust me, Mac, it’s garbage…”

With that, Rainbow walked over to the garbage can and scraped all of the food away. She placed the plate in the sink to wash later and gave a wide smile at Mac.

Big Mac was confused. If the food tasted so terrible, why did it smell so great? There were so many questions running through his mind. Maybe he should just talk with her, like Sugar Belle suggested during breakfast.

“Rainbow,” Mac called sternly.

“Hm?” Rainbow hummed. She didn’t want to look at Mac in the face. To be honest, she couldn’t tell if she was angry or sad. She never had to struggle with her feelings like this before and it was really frustrating.

“Is somethin’ botherin’ you?”

“Of course not,” Rainbow smiled, “I’m gonna go see what Pinks is up to. I’ll be back later okay?”

Big Mac gave a weak, “Okay,” as Rainbow suddenly grabbed her keys and walked out.

What was going on?

Relief

Sugar Belle paced around her room with a frown etched on her face. Everything that she had worked and dreamed for was gone just because of one person. It wasn’t in Sugar Belle to hate, but she was just extremely disappointed.

She was upset that Rainbow Dash was Mac’s new girlfriend, and it seems like the two have been together for a long time. Belle had dated Mac in the past and she remembers the pure bliss and happiness that spread throughout her body every time she held his hand and spent time with him.

They had known each other all throughout elementary school, and at the end of middle school, Sugar Belle confessed to Mac. At first, she was afraid that confessing would ruin the tight bond they shared, and their friendship would go up in flames. However, when she met with him that night and told her how she felt, she was surprised when Mac revealed that he felt the same way!

Since then, the two did everything together as a couple, all the way up into their high school years. Sugar Belle had never been so in love and she felt that Big Macintosh was the one for her. This is why she was heartbroken when her family announced that they would be moving. She tried to find ways to stay in Canterlot, but she didn’t have family close by.

When she broke the news to Mac, he looked at her with sad eyes and told her that everything would be alright.

“If we are meant to be together, then we’ll find a way to reunite once again,” he told her. Mac went on to say that he would wait for her and that things will be alright.

Sugar Belle didn’t think she could handle the pain of a long distance relationship, and the two decided to break up until they would see each other again, It wasn’t long until Belle realized that she had lost Mac’s phone number, and all contact was lost with him.

After a few years, Sugar Belle finally graduated high school and found a college in Canterlot, ready to find Mac. She found a small apartment and lived there for a while, but found herself too afraid to drive to Sweet Apple Acres. She was astonished when she saw that Mac had moved into the same building as her, but she was even more heartbroken when she saw that he had a new girlfriend, Rainbow Dash.

Belle knew exactly who she was since she was friends with Mac’s younger sister, and Rainbow had been known to save the school countless times. She felt her heart burn in fury as she watched Rainbow talk with him. Mac looked at her with so much love and affection in his eyes.

What happened to his promise to wait for her? Did she mean nothing to him?

Ever since she saw the two, Sugar Belle had been determined to get Big Macintosh back. She didn’t know what was wrong with her. Normally, she was extremely kind and shy. Why would she want to ruin a perfectly good relationship?

She really didn’t want to. She hadn’t even done anything yet, and she felt guilty. However, she was desperate to restore her relationship with Big Mac. She couldn’t imagine her life without him! Mac said that if they were meant to be together, they would find each other again in the end, and Sugar Belle was going to prove it.

A smile crept across her face and she went outside, planning to pop up into Mac and Rainbow’s apartment yet again. However, she heard a familiar deep voice coming in from down the hall and she quickly scampered back into her own apartment. It was Mac and Rainbow coming back home.

“Why did you want to pick me up from Pinkie’s place? I could have found a way home.” Rainbow’s raspy voice echoed through the hall.

The sound of keys jingling soon replaced it, and Sugar Belle listened to Mac reply with:

“Ah wanted to talk to you,”

The voices faded away, signaling that the two had gone inside. A slight glimmer of hope sparked in Sugar Belle’s chest. “I want to talk” is never a good sign in a relationship. Was it possible that Mac had fallen back in love with her so quickly?

Again, Sugar Belle stepped out of the apartment and walked over to Mac’s front door. Luckily, the two were speaking in the living room, and Belle could hear practically every word.

“What do you mean, ‘I’m acting weird’,?” Rainbow asked.

“Ya haven’t been yourself darlin, an’ Ah’m worried that somethin’ is botherin’ ya.” Mac replied softly.

“Nothing is bothering me, Mac. Can I go now?”

“No, Dash. We need to talk. This can’t keep goin’ on.” Mac said sternly.

Sugar Belle heard a sigh come from Rainbow.

“Okay, maybe I’m a little worried about something…”

“What’s that?”

“It’s you and Sugar Belle. Don’t get me wrong, I trust you one hundred percent! I know you wouldn’t do anything to hurt me, it's just I know the past that you two had and she really seems to like you...I just thought that it could be possible-” Rainbow was speaking when she got cut off by Mac.

“That’s what you’re worried about? Darlin’, come here,” Mac called, “Ah’m sorry if I made you feel worse about things. Yes, me and Sugar Belle have dated before and Ah really thought she was the one back then. That’s why Ah promised her that we’d meet again one day. That was before Ah met you, Dash. You complete me, an’ Ah don’t want to let that go,”

“But, Ah know Sugar Belle. She wouldn’t try to ruin anything we have. Ah trust her.”

That last sentence made Sugar Belle’s heart swell. Sure, most of what Mac said crushed her. It seemed like Big Macintosh truly never plans to let Rainbow go, but he trusts her, which is the most important part of a relationship. From what she was hearing, Rainbow had been doubting how much she could trust Mac.

Maybe that was her weakness! Sugar Belle gave a small smile, knowing that she might have a chance to claim Mac as her own once again.

“I’m glad we talked this out, Mac…” Belle heard Rainbow say. She then heard a gasp come from Rainbow.

“You know how I’ve been trying to make the Wonderbolts’ team?” she asked excitedly. Mac must have nodded because Sugar Belle didn’t hear a response.

The Wonderbolts? Was she talking about that soccer team?

“Well...apparently the letters get sent out this week! I’m gonna find out if I made it in or not!” Rainbow explained.

“Ah’m sure you made it, darlin’. You’re the best player Ah know,” Mac responded sweetly.

Another smile spread onto Sugar Belle’s face as a plan began forming. She knew how to get Big Macintosh back, but first, she had a call to make.

Sugar Belle practically flew back to her apartment and quickly grabbed her phone. Dialing a number, Sugar Belle put the phone to her ear and waited for someone to answer. When she heard a voice, she bounced in happiness.

“Hey, Feather Bangs? I need you to do me a favor…”

Rainbow felt pretty good about herself. She had talked things out with Big Macintosh the day before, and they even had a deeper conversation before they went to bed. Rainbow had full trust in Big Macintosh, but she couldn’t tell him that she didn’t trust Sugar Belle either.

Rainbow knew full well how Sugar Belle must have felt. The love of her life was seen with another woman, which must hurt. Rainbow would be crushed if this happened to her, and she hopes that one day it wouldn’t.

Rainbow didn’t know Sugar Belle that well, but would she ever go as far as to try and get Big Mac back? She wasn’t completely sure, and that was what was throwing her off.

She wasn’t going to let these thoughts bring her down though. After fixing things with Mac, it seemed like things were finally going back to normal.

Big Mac had chosen to go to Sweet Apple Acres to help out on the farm. Applejack seemed to have a lot of chores this week and needed his assistance. This left Rainbow by herself for most of the day, and she decided to spend her day out.

She threw on her coat and walked herself to a small coffee shop. After ordering what she wanted, Rainbow plugged her headphones in and tuned everyone else out, getting lost within her music. She got her coffee and started heading out of the door, not really paying attention.
Instead of exiting the coffee shop, Rainbow slammed into a body. The impact had already caught her off guard, and she jumped even more so.

Her coffee was spilled all over the place, and even while she was angry, she felt that she could have paid attention more.

“Crap,” she hissed, “I’m so sorry.” Rainbow apologized to whoever she had hit without even looking to see.

Her headphones were still plugged in, so she couldn’t hear anyone speaking around her. She was crouched down, trying to pick up the now empty cup when she felt a hand on her shoulder.

Pulling her headphones out of her ear, Rainbow was met with a pair of light green eyes. It was a male, who looked to be around her age. He had tanned skin and long blonde hair with light highlights on the tips. Rainbow wasn’t going to lie, he did seem to be good looking. Almost every feature of his face was soft and perfect.

“I’m really sorry about that. That was my fault.” the man apologized. Even his voice was somewhat soothing.

“No, it’s fine. I really should have looked where I was going.” Rainbow responded sheepishly.

The man went to grab some napkins from the counter and came back to help clean the mess on the floor. He stood back up and handed one to Rainbow, who hadn’t realized that her shirt was ruined as well.

“Oh,” she said, wide-eyed, “Thanks,”

“Anytime,” he smirked.

Rainbow gave an embarrassed smile back before she started to walk out the door.

“Wait, miss!” the man called from behind her.

Rainbow turned around on her heels.

“Yeah?”

“Why don’t you let me buy you another? It was my fault that I caused all of that,” he offered.

“Oh, no. It’s no big deal, you don’t have to.”

“It’s fine, really. I don’t mind.” the man assured.

Rainbow stood with her hands in her pockets, desperate to leave, but from the look in the man’s eyes, she could tell that he wouldn’t stop until she agreed.

“Fine, but I’m paying you back,” Rainbow replied sternly.

The man gave a small laugh.

“That defeats the purpose,”

Rainbow waited by the door for the man to come back outside. She listened to her music again and closed her eyes, drowning everyone out. It was easy for her to forget all of her troubles when it came to music, it was why it was always so important to her back in high school. She clearly didn’t notice when the man came back outside with her coffee, and she didn't seem to notice that he had begun to admire her for a few moments.

When he finally decided to stop staring, he slightly nudged Rainbow, pulling her out of her trance.

“Oh, thanks,” she smiled, taking out her earphones again.

“Anytime,” the man said, “So, what’s a pretty girl like you doing in such a small part of town?”
He tried to start a conversation before Rainbow walked away.

“Oh, I just moved here with my boyfriend,” Rainbow responded, making sure to imply that she was in a relationship before anything escalated.

“I see,” the man said with a flip of his hair, “What’s your name?”

“Rainbow Dash,”

“That’s a pretty name for a gorgeous girl,” the man smirked, making Rainbow want to gag.

“I’m Feather Bangs,” he greeted, holding out a hand, “Nice to meet you,”

Rainbow blinked repeatedly as she stood against her front door, dumbfounded after returning from the cafe.

What just happened?

The conversation that she had just had with this "Feather Bangs" character at the coffee shop continuously played in her mind as she walked back to her apartment complex. After introducing himself, the blonde apologized yet again for the minor mishap and began to flirt with Rainbow in the least subtle way. She recalled biting her tongue in hopes to prevent herself from telling the creep to "get lost", wondering why he had suddenly forgotten about the fact that she was in a relationship and wanted nothing to do with him. It ended with him trying to give her his cellphone number, to which Rainbow respectfully declined before they parted ways.

"Oh, you're home,"

A familiar deep voice shook her from her thoughts and Rainbow found herself smiling as she saw Mac coming from their bedroom. Before she could greet him, Big Mac found himself staring at the stain on her clothing and a look of confusion quickly made its way onto his freckled face.

"May I ask what happened?" he questioned with a soft smile, his accent thick.

"Oh," Rainbow chuckled nervously, not sure if she should tell him about the Romeo she had met moments prior, "Some clutz just ran into me and totally messed up my new shirt, that's all."

Big Mac gave a deep, hearty laugh at that, "Well did this 'clutz' apologize?"

"Oh yeah, he apologized alright," Rainbow quipped, rolling her eyes out of annoyance. In response, she was met with another confused gaze from her boyfriend before she just waved it off and quickly decided to change the subject.

"So, what did you do while I was gone?" she asked, walking towards her couch.

"Wait for you to come back," Mac smiled, knowing exactly what he was doing. He only laughed when his girlfriend began to fake gag at the remark, Rainbow joining in on the laughter shortly after. It wasn't until moments later that Mac decided he should make sandwiches for both of them and headed into the kitchen, leaving Rainbow alone in the living room with her thoughts. As the prismatic haired girl relaxed, she dug her hand into the pocket of her jacket and quickly grew confused as her fingers brushed upon an unfamiliar item. Sitting up, Rainbow hastily drew a small piece of paper from her pocket and gawked at the sight. On the paper, there was a phone number. Next to the number, there were the initials, "FB". Rainbow only grew annoyed and growled under her breath.

"That smooth little mother-"

"Did you say somethin'?" Mac quickly asked the moment he heard her voice. Placing the unwanted number back in her pocket, Rainbow looked behind her and shook her head.

"Nope, sorry,"

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Rainbow held back the urge to roll her eyes as she already had a sense of who it was and went to go open the door for their guest. Unsurprisingly, a familiar purple-haired woman darted through the door, almost causing Dash to lose her balance. Rainbow watched with wide eyes as Sugar Belle ran to her boyfriend and captured him in a tight hug, squeezing her cheeks against his as if he were her teddy bear. Mac seemed as surprised as Rainbow did, dropping the slices of bread in an instant.

"Sugar-"

"Oh Mac, I missed you!" the girl exclaimed, only puzzling the couple even more so.

"It's been a day-"

"No, it hasn't! Don't you remember what we did this morning?"

"Uh, Belle I-"

"We had so much fun, didn't we? You're seriously one of a kind, I'll never forget what you said to me..." Sugar Belle continued to ramble on and on about this event that supposedly happened a few hours ago. Rainbow furrowed her brows, still baffled at the way Sugar Belle had barged in. She had never seen the sweet girl act in such a way, nor did she understand what she was talking about.

"I really hope we can do it again sometime, Mac.." Sugar Belle said, calmer than she was before. She stared at Mac dreamily, her hands together as she swayed from side to side. Before she left, she gave the boy a quick peck on the cheek and turned on her heels. Taking the initiative to close the door on her own, Sugar Belle exited without even acknowledging Rainbow's presence. The confused pair only stood frozen in silence, before Mac was quick to speak.

"Dash, I-I swear I have no clue what she's talking about.."

"I believe you," Rainbow spoke, her eyes narrowing on the door as if the intruder was still there, "What's her deal?"

"I really don't know, darlin', maybe it's somethin' she dreamed about?" Mac suggested, to which Rainbow cocked her head in response, "I'll have a word with her later."

Rainbow was put off by Sugar Belle's stunt, but she was determined to not let it bother her. Besides, if she ever busted through the door like that again, Rainbow would make sure she wouldn't make it past the entrance. However, this posed a question in Rainbow's head.

Is she trying to make me jealous?

"Are you crazy? You didn't discuss that with me!"

"Last time I checked, this was my plan, not yours. You don't need to know what I do,"

"Well, last time I checked, you called me in for help, so I should have a say in what's going to work or not. In my opinion, you just screwed everything up!"

Sugar Belle plopped down on the green couch in her friend's apartment, growing tired of this small argument.

"How did I screw it up?!"

"Belle, what even was the purpose of doing that?" Feather Bangs asked harshly, angered and worried that he's doing this all for nothing.

"To make her angry and question him, duh.."

"Was it to make her angry or was it an excuse to hug Macintosh?" he deadpanned, to which Sugar Belle only glared in response.

"Look, I came over to discuss how things went on your end, not so you can criticize my strategies.." Sugar Belle snapped, "Now spill,"

"She's really hard to get, but it's understandable because she has a boyfriend." Feather Bangs put more emphasis on the final word in his statement before sighing, "What is the point of doing this anyway?"

"To get Mac back, what is so hard to understand?"

"Have you maybe, I don't know, tried to move on? I understand that you love him a lot and everything but I'm sure there are people out there that would love you so much more than he could. Some people could be right in front of you and you'd never know.."

Sugar Belle scoffed, "Oh please, if that was the case I would have found someone new already. I think of this as the universe telling me that Mac is the one.."

"That makes no sense," Feather Bangs muttered, only getting a groan from Sugar Belle in return.

"Look are you going to help me or not? It doesn't seem like you want to do this.."

"Of course I'm going to help you, Belle. I just want you to be happy and if this is the way, I'll do anything to help make it happen but please don't be upset if this doesn't-"

"Okay then, thank you, Bangs!" Sugar Belle gave him a quick hug as she grabbed her jacket and headed out the door in a swift manner. Feather Bangs only sighed, left alone in the apartment yet again.
