The part where Derpy is telling her to get out more, there was a mistake. You typed "All you day is kinda... hang about," when you should have put "do". Just throwin' that out there.

Pretty interesting take on the concept. My only suggestion is that the opening is a little weak. Instead of just saying "I try to talk to them and I get met with false smiles and fake acts of kindness," give us a short scene where that happens, maybe with one of the ponies she was friends with in school.

I've never really read much about Lyra in fan fictions before, but this was pretty good.
Enjoyable and sweet.
This actually hits me. Hard. I'm constantly moving around the country, I'm awkward when it comes to meeting new people because everyone has their friends and I'm just "the new girl who can draw". So, because I'm an oddity, and social status is major now that I'm almost a Freshman in high school, I'm not one of the "kool kids" with great "style and humor", I'm the "awkward artist" with "weird taste". Lyra being left out of almost everything because of one silly fascination....that can pretty much sum up my life

While it's not a complete take that against the usual fanon interpretation of Lyra, but I like the story that she's not too obsessed with them and how she become friends with Bon Bon.

This probably would have hit home for me as well, but a few years back I made the realization that everyone is fucking bizarre in some way and that my way was just a little more overt. Since then I stopped holing up around myself, put myself out there and let the wimps who can't stand little deviations of their norm get seared away by the power of my bizarre awesomeness. Everyone has this awesomeness and awesome are those who embrace it.
This truly is a slice of life story. What some things we do as a kid can come to bite us back in the butt in the future. Much like Lyra's predicament and how it can be related to so many others even if they start off differently. I felt sad for Lyra but good to know she got another friend at least in the end.
I wish I could say that quote applies but it loosely does right now.
