A male MC named Cucumber Seed? Yeah, that sex is a theme here was kind of a given.

Indeed. Given the prophetic nature of names in Equestria, parents should really think carefully about how they name their kids. :twilightoops:

Funnily enough, I had an idea similar to this. Guess I don't have to write it now, do I?

Not to brag but I totally guessed the species of the inspiration before clicking the link.

Good luck in the contest.

10116226
Still worth pursuing, I think. We could always use more freaky siren stuff! :pinkiecrazy:

Thanks!

That was fascinating. And a little horrifying. Is this order still around today?

10116628
Personally, I'd imagine not.

After Unification, many of the glaring weaknesses earth ponies face at sea would be covered by pegasus weather-crafting and unicorn magic. And once Celestia and Luna come into power, they'd probably put an end to what they would view as an unnecessary and cruel institution.

At best, the order could function in an extremely reduced capacity in isolated coastal settlements, where they may not have access to all the amenities provided by pegasi and unicorns.

10116663
And how do the sirens feel about this?

10116664
Okay, lore-dump time!

Traditional sirens, those who have not lost their gems, would probably be happy about it. They detest the idea of working with ponies as almost-equals, and it sucks to have their fun ruined by sympathetic sirens who protect what would otherwise be their prey.

Sirens who work with the order tend to be pariahs amongst their own kind because they've lost their gems one way or another, or because they're crippled. They're less effective at hunting for food or mates, and so view cooperation with the order as a means to enjoy some degree of companionship and a chance to breed.

They would of course be unhappy with the dissolution of the order. They might've tried being diplomatic about it, but I imagine that Celestia and Luna would not have been receptive. They have their hooves full running a newly formed kingdom, and ponies look after their own first. As mentioned, after Unification, what the sirens bring to the table would no longer be seen as worthy of living sacrifices.

Poor girls.

That was an interesting read.
Thumbs up!

10116663
Did you watch the film Midsommar?

10116721
I'm afraid not. Anything special about it?

Well, the inspiration was... something else. Fucking hell, this was definitely one wild ride, though.

This was awful and melancholic and beautiful in the same way that a lot of Mark Twain's stories play out. Definitely one of the best reads on this site.:heart::heart::heart::heart:

Needs more vore... :pinkiecrazy:

So, the Sirens are basically Angler Fish and the 'males' fuse with them until they just become vestigial sex organs.

That's... cool... you've visited Furaffinity and e621 a lot, haven't you?

I mean... so have I... but... shut up! :trollestia:

My little Cucumber Seed, become one with me, and you will never fear again.

Between that line and the hairy lump in her side, I think I know where this is going...

The churning water around him had filled with thick strands of slime similar to that of a hagfish’s, and he could feel a burning, itching sensation all over when his wet skin came into contact with it.

Oh joy, these sirens are also aboleths.

Ah. This did go where I thought it would, but he came out much more lucid than I expected.

Fascinating concept. I almost feel bad that the Order was dissolved, if only because this was a mostly positive case of interspecies cooperation that also served as a defense against more intact sirens. Granted, it's still pretty darn messed up, but biology is as biology does.

Thank you for a most unexpected journey. Best of luck in the judging.

WELCOME TO THE CUM ZONE

This was a fun read, keep it up.

While exploring alien cultures and biology is fun I'm not sure it makes sense to have Sirens by a species/people rather than unique legendary monsters. The Pillars of Equestria, the most powerful heroes of the age couldn't beat the Dazzlings in a straight fight and had to banish them to a magicless world instead. Then when they regained their full power they were able to overwhelm a six-person harmony blast and needed Sunset Shimmer to make it a seven-person blast to lose. Arguably making them more powerful than Discord in some ways. Having an entire breeding population of creatures that powerful is kind of setting breaking.

There's some minor similarities.

COMMENT/REVIEW/QUESTIONS LIST INCOMING!!

As Cucumber Seed is losing his name syllable by syllable over time along with the eventual fate of his fellow partner Pickle Jar, I really should have seen the punchline coming a mile away.

Given what was your *ahem* inspiration for this, what exactly happened between Calando Stella picking him and Cucumber waking up in the sea afterwards? And how? Magic or a more...biological approach? Can all Sirens do this? Does this work on other races as well?

Surprised there aren't any male Sirens which makes you wonder how the Sirens ever had kids properly before the Ordo Aquarius came along. Overboard sailors and unsuspecting beachgoers don't exactly grow on trees or whatever the aquatic equivalent is.

Fanworks usually just portray the Dazzlings or pass their race as a whole off as G4 (mutated) Seaponies rather than their own species. And now (5/3/2020) there are two works that show Sirens as their own people in the Featured Box, distinct from hippocampi (horse mermaids) and seaponies (essentially real-life Seahorses complete with no arms). Good for them.

How long does the average stallion last with a Siren? Cucumber saw Luna as an adolescent in his early days underwater and she was in her more recognisable adult form by the time he shed his name to a single syllable. Speaking of Luna, every time she sees the dreams of the stallions during her dreamwalking...yikes. No wonder outlawing this was among the first things the Royal Sisters did.

What happens after a stallion is fully assimilated? Do they finally die and go to the afterlife or do their consciousness get stuck forever?

Man, I have seen many things on the internet. And somehow it can still find ways to surprise me. Was expecting just a run-of-the-mill lemon. This poses an interesting dilemma: What happens when you have a mutualistic friendship that is only possible with such a morally horrifying cost? Do you keep it? Stop it? Or try to find a third way?

A response to all this is appreciated.

Wow.
I'm familiar with that peculiarity of anglerfish, but to make an entire story out of it?
An interesting one, highs and lows? Conflict and resolution? Heartwarming moments, even?

Very well done.
Thanks for sharing it.

interesting ... weird but interesting

Surprisingly beautiful.

What a coincidence to see another story about sirens here for Jake's competition. That was certainly an interesting read, and I'll leave it at that. I liked it, though, and thought it was a different way to build lore around sirens.

Best of luck in the competition!

QUIVERING CLIT DOUBLE JOINTED PUSSY

“Greetings, brother. I’m Cum. Nice to meet you!”

Aaaaaand all dramatic mood is immediately evaporated. :rainbowwild:

10117523 You could make lots of reasons... lingering chaos magic effects, some type of magical adaptation after near-extinction event. Or, they're using the same physiology that they used to use for their natural males, who died off for some reason while the females survived.

I mentioned already this seems to be taking inspiration from many species of Anglerfish, which have teeny little males that fuse with the females and are slowly absorbed until they're basically just gonads. But in that case, only 1 male is required since the fusion actually causes the male to grow somewhat and remain attached for the entire life of the female, though up to 8 can attach in some species, while others appear to have a 'one only' rule. I can see case where Siren males might have been wiped out if they're very similar to some anglerfish males: much smaller and weaker, with the inability to feed. If they don't quickly find a mate, they die.

Not all Anglerfish do this, however. I surmise that the mean and nasty Sirens can screw the old-fashioned way, and perhaps what we are seeing here is a speciation event due to selective reproductive niches.

Perhaps these 'gentle' Sirens eventually gain so many pony genes, they eventually become the hippocampi/hippogriffs... after also deciding to boink catbirbs. :derpytongue2:

A note: This is one of the types of fish that probably influenced the legends of sea serpents.

upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/ba/Alepisaurus_ferox_on_deck.jpg

They can be up to 7 feet long, so you can see how easily that would be exaggerated into a giant monster by sailors. And it looks rather similar to the Sirens, doesn't it? Just missing the 'horsey' parts.

…..

Also, still needs more vore. :pinkiecrazy:

Im a bit confused what does she do to the Ponies she chooses and takes to the sea with her exactly? Still a very Good Story, just need a little clarification on that fact, something about pink flesh and a ship?

10118382
I think it's based on how some species of male anglerfish 'mate' with female anglerfish... the males are really fookin' tiny and are vastly different physically from the females by comparison. They latch on to a female and end up become permanently, parasitically fused for the rest of their semi-mindless lives, and if they detect the female ovulating they instinctively/reactively release a spurt of sperm to fertilize the eggs, or something like that.

The bizarre sexual dimorphism in some species is simply fascinating.

10117438
Whilst it is true that the Sirens here clash quite a bit with canon representation, I think it can be reasonably reconciled with a minor tweak to headcanon.

You could just think of the Dazzlings as exceptionally gifted members of their species, either from sheer talent and genetics, or from having learnt how to derive power from the disharmony they spread.

10118380
Incidentally, the angler fish is one of the few creatures that is actually capable of vore as depicted by fetishists, since those bastards can eat things several times their own size. :rainbowderp:

10118382
She pretty much absorbed him, similar to what some species of angler fish do.

But if you're asking about the exact process, she started off by secreting slime into the water, which dissolves his skin and makes his flesh more pliable. It also softens the scales on her midriff, so she can peel them off and stick him in place. Folds of her flesh would gradually engulf him until they're properly fused together; that's the pink flesh described earlier on, before her scales have regrown.

The ships have nothing to do with the process. They're just there to witness the ritual.

10117523

Given what was your *ahem* inspiration for this, what exactly happened between Calando Stella picking him and Cucumber waking up in the sea afterwards? And how? Magic or a more...biological approach? Can all Sirens do this? Does this work on other races as well?

The slime kind of turned his flesh to putty, so she could plaster him to her midriff and fuse with him. It's mostly biological by MLP standards, though a little magic could be involved to speed up the process. All healthy Sirens should be able to do this.

Its effectiveness on other species vary, but they do not bother because they're not compatible for reproduction.

Surprised there aren't any male Sirens which makes you wonder how the Sirens ever had kids properly before the Ordo Aquarius came along. Overboard sailors and unsuspecting beachgoers don't exactly grow on trees or whatever the aquatic equivalent is.

You could think of the Sirens as a species that arose artificially, like how changelings in the comics were created from magically corrupted trees (I think?). Perhaps through a curse or some bio-magical mishap. They're all female, and breed exclusively by capturing and fusing with male ponies.

How long does the average stallion last with a Siren?

Untrained victims go insane and atrophy very quickly, since they're starved of meaningful social interaction. Especially pegasi and unicorns, who have to cope with the loss of flight or having their horn broken off. They can go mad within a couple of weeks, but their gonads will remain functional for a very long time.

Trained acolytes can remain sapient for as long as their natural lifespan, and perhaps even for longer, since they can go dormant for significant lengths of time.

Sirens who collaborate with the order may do so partly because they prefer having a mate whom they can love, and who can actually love them back without the perpetual use of mind-control singing. They could also hold the belief that a sane mate produces healthier offspring.

What happens after a stallion is fully assimilated?

They'll die when their brain finally deteriorates to non-functionality. Thankfully, their soul (if it exists in your headcanon), is unaffected by the bond and is free to pass on.

This poses an interesting dilemma: What happens when you have a mutualistic friendship that is only possible with such a morally horrifying cost? Do you keep it? Stop it? Or try to find a third way?

Sounds like a question Twilight might eventually have to tackle. I wouldn't envy her.

10118452 Also snakes... Kaa = #1 vore fetish spirit animal :rainbowlaugh:

I instantly thought Ordo Xenos when I read Ordo Aquarius.

10118857
Alien beans.

Deeply impressed. About fifteen fathoms deep.

What an interesting story...somewhat macabe and yet touching

10116897
Welp I didnt know that I needed to learn to unread things until now so thank you for that

That was... unique.

I wonder how sex after fusing is supposed to work. A few of the other sirens tease Cucumber about his girth, so it sounds as if his member has not been absorbed into Cally yet. But it's a little difficult to imagine how he and Cally get any use out of it when it's located on the same body as the receiving partner. Her redirecting sperm into her womb like an anglerfish doesn't sound too implausible, although I don't know how they receive any pleasure from that.

What about regular sirens? Do they only entrance stallions long enough to mate before drowning/eating them? If so, they must have greater fecundity than Cally does, since it sounds like she took her sweet time getting knocked up by Cucumber.

I thought this was gonna go the "male seahorses give birth" route, but this is just as horrible. :pinkiecrazy:

Well this was an uncomfortable and deeply weird story, and I'm not really sure what to make of it other than that. That seems to have been what you were going for, though, so congratulations. Consider me thoroughly creeped.

Was the layout of the town a stealth reference to The Shadow Over Innsmouth, by any chance?

10120049

A few of the other sirens tease Cucumber about his girth, so it sounds as if his member has not been absorbed into Cally yet.

They were referring to his overall size, not his member. It's supposed to be embedded in her flesh as well, with enough of its original structure left intact that they can still derive pleasure from it.

What about regular sirens? Do they only entrance stallions long enough to mate before drowning/eating them?

Pretty much the same as with Cucumber. They get fused as well.

If so, they must have greater fecundity than Cally does, since it sounds like she took her sweet time getting knocked up by Cucumber.

I will confess that I had not thought all that thoroughly about their comparative fertilisation success rates, so the story unfortunately doesn't account for that.

The idea is that they all 'mate' relatively frequently with their pocket stallions, but the success rate is low, so it seldom results in baby Sirens. A tolerable rate for a species that can live for hundreds or even thousands of years, I think.

The other idea was that Cucumber may not have been awake for the birth/childhood of his other offspring (or maybe even Pic's), but I forgot to account for that, since there are no references to other juveniles. Had this not been a contest entry, I might've considered adding that in.

10120075
Ooh boy, that would've been messy. :rainbowderp:

10120218

Consider me thoroughly creeped.

Mission accomplished! :pinkiecrazy:

Was the layout of the town a stealth reference to The Shadow Over Innsmouth, by any chance?

Afraid not. I have no idea what that is. :derpytongue2:

10120546
Shadow over Innsmouth is a Lovecraft book about humans who procreate with fishpeople in exchange for their favours, such as food. This story contains a likewise mutually beneficial arrangement with an underwater species enforced with cult-like zealotry. And like Innsmouth, it is portrayed as a destructive relationship with a species that is malevolent towards the surface dwelling civilization.

The notable difference is that Lovecraft was racist and used his book as a warning against race-mixing.

10119966 That's why I'm here!
