Rarity had always known she would have an arranged marriage—such was the life of a princess, after all. She just hadn't expected her wife to be a sphinx or that she would actively avoid her, and not just because she loves books.

Commission for the lovely Earthsong9405 set in one of her AUs where Rarity is in an arranged marriage to Princess Twilight Sparkle, a sphinx Princess from Saddle Arabia.

I'll give that a thumbs up...

Oh that end line.

Magnificent and what a riddle to end on, too!

~Skeeter The Lurker

Btw, the titular riddle's answer is "Shadow"

A well written story. Very well written. You portrayed Twilight very well and managed to make the hybrid thing work well with her. I enjoyed this story very much.

I basically forced my money into Earthsong's hand at Bronycon. I was buying a lovely little Derpy picture and she insisted that I could get it for free with one of the "I Bucked Cancer" buttons, but I insisted. She's too good to give her stuff away.'

As for the story, a lovely exchange throughout. Bonding with someone so browbeaten can't be easy, but I think these two are going to be okay.

I adore it. Prepare to become a human maraca. You were warned, silly duck.

How did you stick a picture on the chapter?

... Blast.

Why you do this?

Now I find myself forced to heckle you for a continuation. If you don't want people pestering you for more chapters, then don't make the oneshots so dang interesting and engaging.

...in case the 'subtle sarcasm' was too heavy, I really loved this. It was brief, but poignant.

You've a rare gift for creating, in relatively few words, a rich and detailed world. I would read more of these two, given the choice.

A new story from Mono? Check.
RariTwi goodness? Check.
More stuff inspired by Eartgsong's Says (that didn't even know she had multiple, still waiting for more Twiguard stories)? Check.
Squeeing intensifies? Triple check :yay:

We need more of your writing, Mono. It shall NEVER be enough!! :raritystarry::twilightsmile:

It's not fair... You can't end it now! I need more!

Great as usual mono, is there anywhere where this story is continued?

MOAR, please

Takes a deep breath and prepares to be Wingly.

Mono, you lied to me. :3 This is quite entertaining and cute.

Never thought Mono loves RartTwi ship...wait~

YESSsssssss

Another beautiful story added to my favorites <3

Well done, Mono! Well done Earthsong!

That was endearingly sweet! The characterization was perfect, the politics were well crafted, and the conversations were well thought out and flowing. Please, have a thumbs up and a fave, you deserve them.

Does this mean there's another fic about this somewhere? I checked the AU link and it just brought me to a tumbler.

There's not a fic! It's just a compilation of headcanons on her tumblr. I extrapolated from them and wrote this. All further info on this AU can be found there.

And thanks, Baron! I'm glad you liked it :3

oh my gosh I'm so excited to read this!! just need to finish reading another fic and I'll be checking this one out asap!

Yeah, I'm not going to pretend that I'm objective on this story. After all, I helped edit it before she gave it to Earthsong. It was awesome. Eeeee. Seriously, I'm shocked we haven't seen more Twi-Sphinx. I think we need more. A lot of you seem to think so, too.

As always, Mono, great job.

Question: A king has no sons, no daughters, and no queen. For this reason he must decide who will take the throne after he dies. To do this he decides that he will give all of the children of the kingdom a single seed. Whichever child has the largest, most beautiful plant will earn the throne; this being a metaphor for the kingdom. At the end of the contest all of the children came to the palace with their enormous and beautiful plants in hand. After he looks at all of the children's pots, he finally decides that the little girl with an empty pot will be the next Queen. Why did he choose this little girl over all of the other children with their beautiful plants?

Answer: The king gave them all fake seeds and the little girl was the only honest child who didn't switch seeds.

Ohh this needs its own story!

That was fast. The picture only just came out today.

Earthsong commissioned Maxima and I at the same time for the same project! I actually finished this on Saturday but was waiting for Maxi to post the drawing so I could post.

8369884
Heee thank you ;3

8369891
Thank you, Skeets!

8369899
Thank youuu! That means a lot. It was a really interesting thing to write, even if my brain constantly kept trying to call her "alicorn" >o<

8369904
She's incredible ;o; I was looking at her sketchbook and lost my marbles over a bodyguard!au raritwi sketch, and she basically ripped it out and offered it to me ;;

Also thank you! I really very much enjoyed writing it, and I would love to go back to this AU one day.

This is interesting. If it ever comes around in the form of a proper story or series--I avoid Tumblr like a plague-ridden corpse, for reasons--I shall cheerfully dive into this universe.

I've been eagerly waiting for this to be published since Earthsong first made this AU. I knew you couldn't resist Mono. I am so glad you couldn't resist.
Short, cute, fluffy, and perfectly open for cough sequels cough should you be planning any (which i dearly hope you are). All in all, another fantastic piece, well done!

And then Twisphinx nom noms da un-eye-corn. :derpyderp2:

But seriously, if I was a sphinx, I would totally enjoy eating Rarity! She's very clean. :pinkiecrazy:

Alondro considers the title, "Hmmm... oh I know! Vampires! "

(No, vampires don't need light.)

"Oh... ok... uhm... Devil's Snare! Like from Harry Potter!"

(No, that was growing in the dark.)

"Huh, a tricky one... I've got it! Basement dwelling fanboys! They need the light of their computer monitors, but direct sunlight kills the symbiotic bacteria they need to survive!"

(... I hate you... so much... it's SHADOWS, you idiot!)

"But shadows aren't alive."

(...but... that's... sunovabeach..)

No one ever saw me, nor ever will,

Doctor Hooves trots in, "I beg to differ!"

Time Ponies, lol.

And 'lo the Priestess of RariTwi returns from her Pilgrimmage to Bronycon and blesses us with a story.

:raritystarry: So good!

I really hope to see more little snippets like this in the future! Maybe not full on Bodyguard!AU style, but just a little continuity would be fantastic!

Wonderful, womderful little tale! Heavens. Any potential plans for more to take place in this sphinx-verse? I must say, you've a gift for tantalizing the imagination and whetting one's appetite for more.

An even more bashful Twilight than usual? D'awww.

So I’ve been sitting here for a few moments, trying to figure out what to comment, and I came up with this:

This was a good, intelligent story that was enjoyable to read. The characters sounded like themselves and I totally got the first riddle completely wrong. The one with the plants I managed to deduce, though.

…you can replace this last sentence with other positive and congratulatory words that I couldn’t think of.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story.

Would love to see more of this, its a very interesting take on our beloved RariTwi.

Correction: For that second riddle, it isn't that the seeds were fake, it was that they were all boiled, and thus died. Still, it made me happy to see that story turned into a riddle. That was quite enjoyable.

Well, füçķ...
This story is amazing.
Looked up this AU, got interested, and now sad, because au is good, but there is no fics about it (beside this one).
I'd happily read more.
8370622
It seems I went in completely opposite direction with this one. I logically come to conclusion that the answer was "because she decided not to pull it from the earth" (because she cared about it and other philosophical blablabla).

I'd actually be very interested in seeing this particular relationship bloom further. Sphinx Twilight is unbelieveably adorkable :3

Ugh, another filthy raritwi story from Monochromatic? Take my like and go!

Seriously though, how do you keep writing such good stories about this specific couple? Even when one's a sphinx born out of wedlock, it's still great!

1.

such a thing should not be a surprised

2.

HOLYS DFONSDOSDNFOGBUSUDFHJDSL Finally a story in this AU! That makes me incredibly happy! The story itself was really good too.

That was cute. I probably shouldn't have let you spoil the story for me at bronycon, though.

8369897
Drat! I was going to say, but you beat me to it. That's what I get for showing up late to the party. Next time...

I've rarely felt so strongly that the most delicious bite was yanked out of my mouth just before touching my tongue than when I reached the end of this. If I could be half as good at anything as you are at pairing these two in the most interesting circumstances I'd be a happy man.

Oh gosh another Mono-Earthsong squee-collision :pinkiegasp::heart:
