This reminds me of the odyssey.

5515913
Wow, people have given me lots of things before, but never their lives.
Thanks!

5515908
The one by Homer? :rainbowhuh:

5515938

but neer their lives

*Starts an evil plan to sacrefie his life for The Great and Powerfull Ocalhoun* :pinkiecrazy:

5515938 Unless someone else had the audacity to name a work of literature the Odyssey, then yes.

5515938
Yep. In Homer's Odyssey, Odysseus tells the cyclops his name is Noman. After the cyclops gets his eye poked out, everyone hears him screaming from in his cave "No man has blinded me." They're all like "WTH?" and no one comes to help him.

Neato! ^.^
I accidentally played the same trick as Homer.
(Really, I had forgotten about that bit until now.)

At first I thought you were saying the story is like the entire Odyssey, and I was confused because it's way to short and narrow-scoped for that.

5515954
Oh, huh... I guess I'm accidentally starting a cult.
Neat.

5516089 I shall sacrifice blankets, doors, deodorant and many other things in the honor on our great leader! :rainbowlaugh:

I wrote a review of this story. It can be found here.

5516102 You need to make "The Cult of Ocalhoun" a group on here. I'd join it.

5517625
Ooh, I love getting reviews!

5518621
I approve of this idea.

5521138
Well, not quite ended yet...

well this was a good deal more random than i thought it would be. :derpyderp2: but who says thats a bad thing?:pinkiehappy:

5529786
Heh, it's not supposed to be all that random.

Such an interesting story. I actually didn't think it was going to end the way it did. That is incredibly amazing. I like this story.

Nice to see I can surprise people. ^.^

There are tales in Indochina with a common idea: a monster seems unbeatable because each monster slayer becomes the next monster.

There's also a Russian play along similar lines: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evgeny_Shvarts#The_Dragon

6362113
How is the monster eventually defeated?

6364800 In the cartoon the last dragon is killed by a boy, who wants neither riches, nor power. Then he kills the prime minister and quickly leaves, allowing the state to fall apart.

I've already got an idea for a sequel! (For the contest, of course!) Surprises ensue!

6818529
Ha! Now this is one I have no idea how you'd sequel, so that should be interesting.

This is pretty cool! The heroine's upbringing reminds me of the Cassandra Cain Batgirl from the 90s/00s. If I was going to submit something for the contest, it would have to be be based on this.

How to continue it, though? Maybe a hero from the past could be dragged out of retirement...

6902821
Her father isn't actually dead! Dun dun DUN!

*Sees contest.*
*Sees this.*
Perfect.

6950548
I have no idea how you could spin off this one... but I'm looking forward to finding out!

This makes me think of Friedrich Nietzsche most famous quote "He who fights monsters must take care not to become a monster". As it is the descent of someone who fights monsters eventually becoming the monster they strove to kill, very well written and made me think.

6952513
Heh, thanks!

...This story has been getting more attention than usual... did it get linked somewhere?

6953100 Yeah in a blog post by Pickleless about 7 hours ago.

*Slowly lowers hand.*

In Soviet Russia: You don't cheat Fate, Fate cheats you.

6953969
Heh, well thanks for the little extra attention! ^.^

In capitalist Amerika, bank robs you.

The story reminds me somewhat of the short story "Espuma y nada más" except that the protagonist eventually does murder the tyrant.

Link to a translation of that story?

It's quite short, but here's a synopsis: A military captain enters a barber shop and asks for a shave. The barber is a member of the revolution opposed to the captain, and the captain is responsible for the death of many of his friends. As the barber shaves the captain's beard, he contemplates slitting the captains throat but ultimately decides that he is no murderer. The similarities between the two stories are in the moral and psychological drama as the two characters hold a knife to their enemy's necks, as they contemplate whether or not to murder.

Wait, so did she kill him or not? She dropped the knife but later she is celebrating the anniversary of the king's death? Or did sombra fake his murder? :rainbowhuh:

7403260
She didn't kill him then. Instead, she gained his trust, developed the contacts she needed to take over once he was gone, then killed him.

I...don't exactly know what this story is trying to communicate, there is a moral right?

8963086
Morals are so blase. It's more interesting to have a thematic statement. In this case, it would be something about fate ... though what exactly it says is as much up to your interpretation as mine.

8964785
Thats...not how you use the word blase.

I did not get it.

Completely illogical.
