MythrilMoth

LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!

T

Several weeks after recovering her crown from Sunset Shimmer, Twilight Sparkle discovers she can communicate with her counterpart from the other world, who has finally arrived at Canterlot High. When Celestia theorizes that the portal can be re-opened, Twilight and her friends--as well as the OTHER Twilight and HER friends--decide to trade places, so they can learn more about each others' worlds. The only catch: neither party can return to their own world for a full thirty moons...

This story is now cancelled. Its concepts will (eventually) be retooled into (Mis)taken Identity.

i love it :pinkiehappy: and i am waiting for more also

30 moons? That's like 29-30 months!
Unless you're speaking of full moon that is.

3162605 30 moons is a little under 2 and a half years

awesome i am waiting for more

It had been several weeks since her journey to that other world. She had told her friends about that world, and what she saw there, though she felt she had very little to tell because her time had been so brief, her attention focused on reclaiming her Element of Magic.

It's like she completely forgot Spike took that journey with her, and played a critical role in helping her assimilate.

another Twilight Sparkle, who existed in that world, who had not yet found those destined to be her best friends.

Except her best friend, whom she already knows. Too bad he licks his butt and digs up the yard in that other world.

At least EG Rarity seems interested in seeing Spike again. In most fanfics, pictures, or comics, the EG girls have completely forgotten he exists; this time, it's just Spike's own friends who aren't thinking about him. There wasn't even a scene in which Twilight consulted her most committed friend on being apart for 2.25 years, asked him if he wanted to come with, or tasked him with the same responsibility he had during their last dimension hop. Granny Smith seems to have been forgotten, too.

If Twilight has to deal with her dearest and most familiar companion being a barking furball for one-and-one-quarter years, and she is anything less than antsy return to the one who can work and look after himself, it would paint a very sad picture of how little he means to her.

3162884 Huh? I'm sorry, who's Spike again? :trollestia:

There is a reason that Adventure and Slice of Life are mutually exclusive. Adventure suggests that the characters are going and doing things that they don't do normally. Slice of Life suggests the exact opposite: they are doing the things they do every day.

Hm, don't you think that it would have been prudent to add a Romance tag to this fic? There seems to be some FlashLight here, and that is most definitely romance. I wouldn't have even read this fic if I had known it would have FlashLight in it. So yeah, Ta.

All this talk about moon being a unit of time is so damn confusing.:twilightangry2: I'm assuming a moon is a day, so that 30 moons would be approximately a month. Besides, you can't just say 30 suns, that sounds stupid.

But it could also be phases of the moon, and there are nine of those that last about three days. That would be about 90 days or around three months.

Or you could mean moon as a lunar cycle, which itself is about a month, 30 of which would be just over two years.
What I'm trying to say here is that there's not enough definition as to how long a moon is.:facehoof:

3163515 A moon is a full lunar cycle, so a moon starts and ends on a full moon.
Full moons happen once a month so 30 moons is 2 and a half years.
So your third guess is correct.

Holy Shit!!! Why do make human Shining Armor dead? That is so not cool. But If you want to make it 20% cooler, try making Shining Armor died during his service is a military or something. I mean pony Shining Armor is a Captain of the Royal Guard? why don't his human counterpart is a captain of a something? Man, motorcycle accident, really.

Let me just put some notes down here.

[] Good spelling and grammar.
[] The listing of which world is currently being read could use some help (such as a header stating which world), unless it's intentional, which in that case it's fine.
[] Pootube? ... I really don't remember that being said in the movie (could be wrong about that though).

Lastly.... (Top = ch.1 Bottom = ch.2)

:ajbemused:I recognize that, it's just that it doesn't seem to make any canonical sense.
Exhibit A: The Apple Family reunion takes place every 100 moons. Now, according to my three possibilities, that would make it every 100 days, 10 months, or 7.5 years. The most likely ones are the first two, since it seems unlikely that over seven years had passes since the pilot and the eighth episode of season 3.:applejackunsure:

Exhibit B: The mirror is open for approximately 3 days (or more) and then is closed for 30 moons. Considering that Sunset Shimmer seems to have known about the mirror for quite some time, considering she was at the school for a solid three years. In which case if 30 moons were truly two-ish years, than Sunset Shimmer would have had to have entered the mirror two or more "cycles" ago in order to be present for her undefeated streak at the Fall Formal, as well as not being able to use the mirror for over two years until the events of the movie, leaving very little room to hear about the coronation, the whereabouts of the Elements, and try to steal at least one of those Elements. Whereas if it were only every few months or so which would make much more sense as to just how she's able to know all of this.

Of course, none of this would even work if Equestria has different lengths of time than our Earth. For all we know, an equestrian year is 100 days separated into seasons of 25 days with weeks of 5 days each. Maybe there are no phases of the moon. Maybe a day is 30 hours instead of 24. Maybe the night is twice as long as the day. We just don't know enough to not use possibly drastic assumptions.:ajbemused:
I talk a lot. :twilightsheepish:

Whee, lots of bitching about minor petty shit, and a fair amount of bitching about things that genuinely matter! Must mean I've got a new LBE on my hands! :coolphoto:

OK, I'll address some specific things here:

First off: "Thirty moons" is roughly 2 and a half years. Period. End of discussion.

3163430 It is entirely possible for Adventure and Slice Of Life to exist within the same work. The show ITSELF is EXACTLY THAT. As to the Romance tag: I just forgot to add it after posting Phase 1. I'll fix it shortly. But really, it's an Equestria Girls story and you weren't expecting Flash and Twilight? Holy shit, dude. :derpytongue2:

3163592 Guess what? People die in pointless accidents every day. Not every dead older brother has to be a fucking war hero! I mean no disrespect to those who have lost loved ones in the service, but it is ABSOLUTELY NOT NECESSARY for any and every dead brother/sister/father/goat to have died in combat. :ajbemused:

3163618 Adding headers that say "Equestria" and "Canterlot High" is not only amateurish and inefficient, it also demonstrates a writer's low opinion of the reader's intelligence. It should be, AND IS, obvious from the story context when the setting shifts. Also, in case you didn't notice, beginning in Phase I, every scene break indicates a setting shift. The PooTube thing was something I came up with at the last second. EGverse YouTube was never actually named.

Finally, thanks to everyone for reading! You shouldn't have too long to wait for the next chapter.

"finally arrived at Canterlot High"? I'd expect the reason the other-world Twilight wasn't there would be because she graduated 4 years early and was already on her way to a second PhD. This is Twilight Sparkle we're talking about, after all :trixieshiftleft:

3163641 It's a sly reference to the fact that the movie is a pilot for a series, which means the Twilight Sparkle native to the EGverse will eventually transfer into Canterlot High.

3163644
Well, that still makes no sense in my opinion, for the aforementioned reason :rainbowwild:

3163636
I did notice that, but I've read a rainbow of stories and seen as much diversity in comments to accompany them. I've seen others (not all or even most mind you) complain about smaller things than that. However, since you answered my question in that it was obviously intentional, I will simply leave it at that.

As much time as you spend on the discussion about whether our not to go through with the plan, it still feels they made it way to easy. There are no real arguments, everypony just lets them go without any problem (the Apple family, the Cakes, Angel)... They all just go "let me think about it... Ok.") They are gone for two and a half years. That is a really long time. You expect arguments, maybe even fights, and in the end some of them deciding to go and others to stay.

Ah well. Story seems ok otherwise.

I'm going to read this... but something tells me the twelve of them all though this
31.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m84b5txkNh1r76lino1_250.gif

Okay, before I read this, how long is 30 moons? I don't know

PooTube?

POOTUBE??????

no. I just... no. It's Youtube, just call it Youtube, I can't take it seriously when it's called Pootube, just...

REALLY?????????

3163636

First of all, while Adventure and Slice of Life do both happen in the show, they never happen at the same time; the definitions are opposites, after all. Secondly, It wasn't so much that I wasn't expecting FlashLight, it was more like I was hoping it wouldn't show up. I mean, she is a grown adult and she is being shipped with a teenager? Interdimensional age shenanigans aside, that's still weird.

Now THIS would be interesting as a movie! Or a spinoff. :twilightblush:

OH, I feel bad for the human girls. Oh sure, it may seem easy, but then...they'll have to deal with the Dogs, Dragons, the everfree monsters, the threat of changlings, ect ect.

Can't wait.

Also, I hope Twilight doesn't do anyhting too stupid with Flash in the other world...though I have to wonder what is so different between the Flash of the human world vs the flash of Equestria.

There is just one thing I can't help but notice in the meeting of the sisters scene. One little thing that was missing from the last chapter as well...I hope you dont mind, its kind of a thing with me in case you didn't know by some of my groups and stories...

WHERE IS SCOOTALOO:scootangel:

One thing I am wondering is are you going to have an explanation on where the Sunset Shimmer who was born human is? Also one other big difference could be that unlike Princess Celestia, Principle Celestia could have a husband and child.:trollestia::heart:

I gotta admit, it's an intriguing idea. Exchange students from another world? I never thought of it before. Although I'm not sure that everyone in the high school (or even equestria, for that matter) would be quite so willing to accept this idea, but still, definite watch from me.

...seriously, though. Pootube? What's wrong with just calling it Youtube?

:fluttershysad: Um, I noticed something

"It won't be so bad," Rarity said, waving a hand airily. "So long as they don't expect us to eat grass and flowers and hay, I mean."

I'm PRETTY SURE that was supposed to say "hoof" not "hand" that is the now pony Rarity after all.

:rainbowdetermined2: Awsome story, faved

3164548 Ouch. Good catch. Will fix momentarily.

To everyone complaining about the "PooTube" thing: just think about what 80% of the vids on YouTube ARE. :rainbowkiss:

Two and a half years? I wouldn't go on exchange that long. Six months is my limit.

Also, where is the human world's true Sunset Shimmer?

3163631

No large family/clan has a reunion every 100 days. Are you mental? 7.5 years? Sounds about right.
As for season 1's get-together, I figure that's more for the fact that it was the Summer Sun Celebration, and that the head of the Apple Clan needed help getting ready for a hometown shindig that Celestia herself would be attending. Not a normal, planned Reunion.

Yes.
Yes I want to read this.
Thank you.
How did you know?

I like how you are making the main characters have different lives than their counterparts. Which is how it should be. Since their in high school and presumably living with their parents, the parents seem oddly fine with their kids going to a magic pony world.

I must say this is a great idea!

will read when I have the time (%&!$# work)

SHIMMER SHIMMER SHIMMER!!!............she's pretty.

Both Pinkies... learning their counterparts' respective physics-violating skills?
...
...
...
Yeah, the universe is bucked.

This would hit the top of the featured box. I never expected I'd enjoy a fic like this, but it reads very smoothly and your characterizations are convincing enough. Maybe it's because I've seen way too many super-crazy-hyper-over-the-top Pinkies out there, because yours in particular struck a good balance of funny without having to resort to lol random.

This is one of those fics I'm getting into for its exploration value, and I'm curious as to how quickly you'll be able to write the events of thirty moons' time from here on out.

3163631
Then we have to consider the possibility that with the equestrian night and day being controlled by magic, then the timetable wouldn't match up to the human moon cycles on the other side of the portal.

This leaves us to wonder if 30 moons could also be the definition of having 30 times where the human moon and equestrian moon synchronize, which could take any sort of conceivable time span.

Very nice start thusfar. I do hope that the Flash Sentry of the other world meets the human Twilight that's visiting. That'd be adorable.

Also, Twilight from MLP just ate the same vegan food Fluttershy did, so she never learned that humans are omnivores. That'll be a surprise for them, eh? No doubt both sides will have one of those 'don't knock it till you try it' deals.

I haven't started reading yet, but I will definitely auto fave/thumbs up it. here, have a muffin! 1.bp.blogspot.com/-JzB1U1dI5yQ/UPvLPs9N9hI/AAAAAAAADDk/Sznz3DABqow/s1600/MBasket.jpg
