This story is a sequel to A Dinky Little Problem

Nopony's life goes according to plan.

When an overzealous social worker "encourages" Derpy and Berry Punch to start a support group for single-moms, the two discover they have little in common, save that their lives aren't turning out quite as they wanted.

Proofreading and consultation by the multi-talented Bluegrass Brooke.

A griffon interviews a grown Spike on the last days of the Kingdom of Equestria, and his personal relationship with the nation’s greatest villain. For history is written by the winners, and Spike and his mentor were on the losing side.

This 'Earth' is so close, and yet so far from anything Twilight described on the other side of that mirror. How is Rarity going to get back to her home when she can't understand anyponybody? And didn't Twilight say she became human, and humans didn't use magic? Yet clearly some did... and that wasn't even counting all the devices that might as well have been magical, as far as Rarity was concerned.

Who knew one strange little gem could cause so many problems? They'd taken it from her after it'd brought her straight into a lab for study, but... If she ever found it again, she was definitely going to let Spike eat it. As soon as she got home. And by Celestia, she was going to get home!

...Will Rarity ever find her way home? Is the gem that brought her to Earth the key, and is there more to the factions maneuvering around her appearance?

To complicate matters, this is an Earth recovering from its first alien invasion (Rarity being technically the second, then). ...Or does that actually explain things? No, no it doesn't. But it will.

------------------------------------------------------
To go with the Teen rating (or rather to explain it) there is light profanity and violence. I don't believe either are at a level where the warning tags are needed, but I'll mention it at least.
There may be some darker, more explicit moments in flashbacks, but I'll save those for Interludes.

Whilst enjoying the company of Twilight Sparkle and her friends in the doughnut shop immediately following the events of The Best Night Ever a disappointed Princess Celestia send a letter off to Prince Blueblood explaining the implications of his failure of the "Rarity Test", among other things...

My entry for the Fallout: Equestria group 300 member short-fic competition.
The theme is Wild Wasteland.

A glow in the distance, holding the darkness of night at bay. Screams of delight and peals of laughter, echoing across the poisoned, torn landscape. Countless tents and stalls, nestled between rides of rickety wood and attractions most bizzare. At the gate, a mare most mad, greeting all who draw near and bidding them enter with a wave of her hoof and a hungry grin.

"Welcome, one and all, to the Carnival! You'll never want to leave."

Flash Sentry’s a nobody, and he knows it. But when a mysterious fortuneteller hints at his path to greatness, he determines to embrace his destiny—and to bring along a famous journalist to record the details for posterity.

Story canon-compliant up through the end of Season Four. It stands on its own, but it occurs after Slice of Life. In relation to my other CheesePie stories, it falls just after Goodbye, Boneless and just before Good Morning, Beautiful. Oh, yes, and implied CheesePie, although this shouldn't be a big surprise.
