I sure hope they can give our dark heroine her wings back.
So do you think Luna will get her wing back through Magical Plot Contrivances, or will she get a cool prosthetic?
I find myself hoping Luna doesn't forgive Celestia. After all, as Celestia said, how can she apologize enough? There is nothing that she can say or do to make this right. There is no amount of recompense that could possibly be enough. She has remorse for what she's done? Great! At least she has the minimal self awareness required to understand that what she did was objectively horrible. It doesn't help Luna, the one who suffered for untold time. It doesn't help Luna's chosen people, the Sarosians, who have likely been unjustly persecuted while she has been gone. It doesn't make anything right. All it does is prove that Celestia rightfully feels the weight of the consequences of her decisions.
By the same token, Celestia can't admit what she did to Luna to any of her people. Their faith in her would be irrevocably shaken. So it seems Luna gets to suck it up and suffer in silence again for her sister's sake again, to prevent Equestrian society from collapsing.
There seems to be no situation here where Luna gets the justice and closure she deserves, as the wronged party. She spent her entire life fighting for her sister, only for Celestia to stab her in the back, for the stated reason that she was afraid Luna would outgrow her. (Unless I'm misremembering that, which is admittedly possible.) There just doesn't look like there is any justice for Luna.
I'm trying, but I can't wrap my head around how forgiveness is possible. All I know for sure is that Luna just can't catch a break.
Though the implication that the true history is recorded/known is interesting. Is it possible Celestia had revealed the truth to her subjects? I suppose so. It's equally possible that only a select few can access the true history, since that point of view was Twilight Sparkle, her student. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that the truth is buried somewhere in the Royal Archives Forbidden Section. Be interesting to see which it is.
At this point, all I can really say regarding Celestia is "Cry some more. Your suffering is nothing compared to Luna's. You caused this. This whole situation is your fault. Live with it."
Needless to say, I'll be looking forward to the next chapter with great interest.

if this is your true opinion, you're missing the shows core values of community, friendship, hope, forgiveness, and redemption.
There is no act you can do, no journey beyond the light, that makes you truly 100 percent unable to be redeemed and changed. Some crimes are unforgivable, and will probably lead to you deserving life in prison.
But not only did Celestia do none of those, those you can still be redeemed from. It'll be a heavy, black mark on your soul, but redemption is possible.
Please, look into your heart, maybe think of your own misdeeds, and wonder if you still feel the same after some consideration.
Be well
Okay.
*Deep breath*
So... Sunset is fine, and apparently is back in Equestria. Learning the extent of what Luna's been through seems to have given her the reality check she needed, too.
Celestia was Honest with the Elements about what she did to Luna. Though that does imply Nightmare Moon really was an outright lie, so... one step forward, two steps back, there.
Luna has internalized the perception of her as a monster more deeply than she's let on until now. Despite finally having the means to find justice, she may decide not to pursue it out of fear that she'll let a desire for vengeance take over.
Harmony neatly deflected its role in what happened by turning the conversation towards Luna's worthiness and chance to heal. Yes, you novelty light bulb, I noticed the dodge. I hope you get tangled with another set of Christmas lights.
We also get confirmation that Luna and Lucas are metaphysically the same person. Also, good to see that Sarah Mann came to her senses, and that their mother is alright too.
...
I really, really hope Luna doesn't just drop her resentment. Yes, there was the whole Windego thing, but letting go of negative feelings can be just as toxic as clinging to them.
That's not to say I think she should focus her efforts on getting reparations from Celestia. I just think she shouldn't pretend things can go back to how they used to be, nor should she let Celestia do so. Celestia is going to give her crown back? Fine, just don't expect to share the same palace. Or city. Feel lucky Luna is willing to stand on the same continent.
A blue armored hoof turns another page in the journal.
Nightmare Night was upon us again. Fittingly, Her return came exactly on the same calendar day we celebrated that horrible banishment. The Night Guard knew better of course, but Sarosians kept their own lore. After Her Highness was returned to us, the night because as much of a celebration of the Night and her in general as the old pony superstitions, but still...
As much as ponies welcomed her with mostly open hooves, this year, at least, Her Highness was not that agreeable to joining us, at least, not like the first year of her Return. Word was that she had stayed in her Royal Quarters, even taking her supper there. This certainly was a shame, as the Stallions and Mares under my command in the Guard had been planning to throw her a proper Night Guard VIP celebration. Sure, that most likely meant large amounts of strong drink, but to them, that was secondary to the fellowship of the thing.
Regardless, I found myself knocking on the door to the Princess's Quarters, the two Guard stationed greeting me as I came. She bid me enter after I identified myself. I took one look at Princess Luna and it took all my military discipline to keep a straight face. Shelooked an utter wreck. She had red baggy eyes, and was just... staring out her window.
"What is it, my Captain?" She said, a lifeless voice.
I trotted up next to her, looking out the window as if to try and find what she was gazing at. "I thought you could use a friend, Your Highness."
"I'm fine..." she ground out.
"With all due respect, your Highness, you sound about as fine as I did right before I took a leap off the TransEquestria Tower as a foal, my wings plucked by my abusive father." I said, a bit of steel in my voice, waiting for her to snap at me.
"Captain!" She said, just a bit shocked someone would talk back to her.
"Please, your highness." I continued. "Let me finish. What I mean to say. I see how you look right now, I see pain. I know that sort of pain because I've felt it myself. I just wanted you to know, you're not alone." I give her a smile, admittedly a break of decorum, but in for a penny... "The best thing when you're hurting like that is to surround yourself with others who understand real, soul wrenching pain. That's why the Night Guard have invited you down to a party in your honor, your Highness."
To her benefit, Princess Luna's countenance brightened considerably. "Are you... sure it will help? None of you really know what I've gone through, Captain." She said, eyes full of hope
"And we don't have to." I replied softly. "One doesn't need to know exactly what you've gone through to be there for you, Your highness."
Princess Luna slowly began to stand up from her perch by her window, and, Harmony as my witness, she smiled at me. "I think I will join you and the others for this party."
"Excellent, your Highness." I said, with a smirk. I was afraid I would take too long trying to convince you, and the Stallions and Mares of the Guard would have gotten tired of waiting and started breaking into the Sweet Apple Acres Cider I had gotten for the occasion.
"Worry not. If they have, I know where my sister keeps the good wine." Princess Luna replied, a mischievous smirk playing across her face "Also, I have the keys. Better still, if they have started drinking, that means we don't have to share."
"It's a good thing you mention keys." I reply back. "I made a point of inviting Miss Inkwell to the party."

... Have you even been reading the story?
Celestia is guilty of treason, conspiracy, regicide, and sororicide. And that's before considering the extent of how Luna suffered.
The story is not obliged to live up to the themes of the show. If anything, some of the best fanfiction deliberately questions the themes of the source material and how the original story presented those themes. Forgiveness, in particular, is something the show couldn't explore the nuances of because it was aimed at children.
A couple of comments have mentioned that we're being hard on Celestia. Of course we are! If anything, it's admirable that none of us have advocated for her execution! The comments here have been downright civil in the face of what Celestia has done!
Remorse does not entitle one to forgiveness or redemption. It's one of many requirements.
The final is coming. What should I say? It was a long story. It caused me mixed feelings. There were tense moments, sad, happy, mysterious, those that made me angry and etc. And so, it's coming to an end... Well, at the moment it leaves some feeling of emptiness and dissatisfaction. It ended too easily. Hey, a gang appears from somewhere of six mares shows up and does things. Peace, friendship, magic. The Evil Nightmare will be destroyed, Luna calmed down, Celestia got what she wanted. The great good has won and everyone is happy. Yeah...
I understand that Luna needed to get her mind in order. But I think Harmony's intervention just devalued Luna's internal struggle. Celestia, mane 6, human intelligence agencies just get all the prizes. I hope you understand what I mean.
Besides, we still don't get an answer as to why Harmony threw Luna into the damn space? Why didn't she try to prevent a rift between her sisters?
11860563
She can reincarnate after her body was incinerated. I don’t think a wing will be a problem.
11860573
Forgiveness is a benefactor. Forgive her, but draw conclusions. In the case of Luna, the conclusions are to stay away from Celestia.
The problem is what Celestia has to do to truly reconnect with Luna. What should Celestia do to prove her remorse and trustworthiness. At the moment, she has no faith. Words and tears won't help. The fact that she was looking for Luna among the stars is also not a reliable indicator. Perhaps this is just one of the forms of ego satisfaction.
11860600
Over? The story has just hardly started with all the flashback. It’s time to see what happens with this new version of Luna how the elements came together, how Luna will reconnect with family, what happens between earth and Equis when Celestia wants no punishment for her sister?
11860623
I hope you're right. The majority of the story being a flashback would leave a sour taste in my mouth but i'm not sure how much left we have
Well it seems that either by meticous historical note taking that no one altered through all time ...
... Or by Elements intervention the Truth was known/is known/will be known not only among Ponies but also at least some Humans
I know I think the second variant is correct one
Well it is nice to have confirmation of some things
Doesn't really change the fact that Harmony used deflection and Nervous Sweating which someone else noticed first in comments
Props to you Jorbun
Sunset is alive , well (?) and seems to have lost her stick
Which is a triple Nice Sundae
Lucna needs to have her student of few hours and more in future somewhere near
Not just because she is my third favorite pony or something like that
Well as they say forgiveness is divine
And with all of that , Lucna left Sainthood behind her couple of floors below her ...
Let's just hope that Harmony is going to enforce/ already enforced whatever Karmic Retribution that is appropriate for wronging parties within limits of crime
Since I think Luna is too forgiving and we don't need her pulling off another "all risk & no reward" stint within last equestrian calendar
Also wow , even Rainbow thought/thinks/will be thinking that what Luna has gone through might overpower any Loyalty ?
What kind of divine miracle was required for her to Think at all ?!
Not to mention Twily having doubts about Celly image ?!
Even bigger miracle
It's like Deus Ex Machina ...
Oh riiiiiight ...
Let us wait and see , since I think great explosion of RCV is coooooming
Brace for sonic impact ladies and gentleman and wear your pink dampening headphones
Since after that ? No one will be ignorant about The MoonyDrama (TM)
... Also no one will have healthy hearing
Also Also :

MOOD KINDRED !!!
Also Also <Deep breath> Also :
Lucna airing her grievances to category 3 godly being right in the face on almost caps lock volume ?
Baaaaalsy mare that one
Truly those were made from Endbringer cores

Harmony grew back Rarity's tail, a wing might be within her YES HER wheelhouse
11860589
Ha... Call me a sucker for redemption arcs... But if Tia was executed, I truly believe it would not bring peace to Luna's heart, perhaps even hinder it. Celestia deserves punishment, but capital punishment would be an offense to Luna herself.
As impossible as it seems that Luna will never truly forgive them again... Never say never, especially in Luna's position of immortality. While even we as the readers themselves might not be able to see a future where, why, and how Luna does it, it would still be foolish to discount it.
11860589
I'm not saying what Celestia did was excusable, and that it's not within Luna's rights to reasonably refuse.
I'm sure you've been hurt before, as have I. But I don't like the idea of making decisions from a place of hate and resentment. It's reasonable to distance herself from Celestia, but honestly if I had a sibling relationship like her and Celestia had beforehand, knowing what she knows now, I'd choose forgiveness. Refusing to forgive Celestia isn't just "fair treatment" for how Celestia acted, but denying yourself that bond potentially forever in the future. Even if you're being pragmatic, a probationary forgiveness is reasonable
I still rather like the idea I had earlier that Celestia would be required to publically confess everything she ever did to hurt Luna, one item at a time per week.
First of all, it'll force Celestia to acknowledge that the Betrayal wasn't just an isolated incident, and that her attitudes towards Luna weren't something she was manipulated into. If she were to do the whole list in one sitting, she wouldn't retain most of it. By doing one item per week, she'll have to actually think about each separate incident while living her everyday life. And by going chronologically, Celestia will notice if the list misses something that she herself remembers, whether because Luna forgot, or because Luna never realized Celestia had done something wrong at the time. Celestia will confess such items on her own initiative because much of what she did that hurt Luna was lying and concealing information.
Second, it'll ease the Equestrian public into the idea that their idol was and is a flawed being. By the time her first major sin comes up - sending Luna to wage war to set up Celestia's ascension - Luna will have enough supporters through sympathy alone to short circuit a revolution against the crown, and she won't stand for a civil war in her name.
Third, as long as Luna can see that Celestia remains committed to acknowledging her crimes, Luna won't have to choose between stewing in resentment or confronting her sister. Seeing one of Celestia's confessions, either directly or in a newspaper or similar, would satisfy both her spite towards Celestia and her hope to one day be able to trust her sister again. It'll keep her going every week in the early months or years of her emotional recovery.
11860676
Probationary forgiveness is an oxymoron.
I can appreciate the sentiment behind not wanting to make decisions out of resentment. But this isn't the shallow resentment between the three tribes the Windegoes fed on. This is a raw wound, and Celestia still has Luna's metaphorical blood on her hooves. Forgiveness right now would be like pretending Luna doesn't need medical attention, and that Celestia isn't leaving bloody hoofprints wherever she goes.
They need to address the still ongoing problems before forgiveness can even be considered an option.
11860676
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like that's exactly what you were saying.
The lack of forgiveness is not coming from hate or resentment. It's coming from a place of well-earned mistrust. After being banished and literally killed, that is hardly an unreasonable position for Luna to be in.
11860601
Should she really be hedging her bets on surviving her best impression of a phoenix again? What if there's no other baby to replace?
Well, Luna can forgive all of them, for a certain definition of "forgiveness".
Dictionary definition of forgiveness is stop being angry for others perceived wrongdoing to you.
It doesn't even imply, however, that one should suddenly be trusting or kind to those wrongdoers.
So, Luna's attitude can be "Okay, I forgive you. It was my fault in the first place to be so stupid to trust you. Now, fuck off. If you wanna my help in the future, you must earn it first.". Then go to those who apparently appreciated her help, that being apparently only Sarosians.
They all say that... Hit too close to home 😔
11860765
Brings to mind the difference between forgiveness and absolution. Forgiveness is internal. It's you, letting go of anger towards others. Absolution is external. It's what you give to others to free them from blame or guilt, releasing them from the consequences.
Luna may forgive eventually. But Celestia has earned no absolution. I'm not sure if that's possible.
How can she?
I do hope Luna can reconnect with whatever Sarosians are left though. They've probably suffered as she has for these past thousand years.
At this point I can only hope that Luna just returns to Equestria only to give up her crown and leave her sister and take her bat ponies to live somewhere else away from here. Probably the undiscovered west or somewhere else on the world. Celestia has done so much wrong that if I was Luna I would’ve immediately slapped her, tell her that she is a total failure of a sister and that she want nothing to do with her before taking my people to live somewhere else.
So Celestia did hide the past from the ponies to have her own perfect kingdom... Hang her!
