Nebula Glow, Mom, was gone.
So.. 2 things for this.
1: So not going with the concept that Lauren Fausticorn/Faust was the Sisters' Mother? I'm okay with this. Far too often we see Shinybritches and Green Cheese straight up written as literal Deities rather than extremely powerful ponies.
2: You make best pony cry.
I've been pretty vocal about how I want Celestia to be confronted with the enormity of the consequences of her betrayal. This isn't so much a thirst for "justice" as it is being sick of shallow "let bygones be bygones" resolutions in fiction.
In this chapter, Nebula's final words included "take care of each other". If this were just about any other story, I'd think this might be the thing that convinces Luna to give Celestia another chance, to honour their mother's dying wish, despite Celestia's betrayal having already ruined it.
"Forgive and forget" is an important concept for conflict resolution, but there are limits. This story's Celestia went over that limit when she tried to take Luna's crown, and then kept going like she was trying to break a record.
And now she shows up, 1000 years later, 1000 years stronger, with 1000 years of historical revision to answer for (not that she knows Luna knows about it yet), and begs Luna to come home. As much as an Alicorn of Celestia's power can be said to "beg", anyway.
Celestia should face justice, yes. But she doesn't seem to realize that. She's apologized, but she's made no real attempt at offering restitution. Her most recent encounter with Luna was on Celestia's terms, so she had every opportunity to bring proof of her contrition and make some kind of peace offering. But she seems to think words are enough. That if she apologizes enough, Luna will come home. That her mistake is still fixable.
I'm greatly anticipating the moment when Celestia realizes that there is no fixing this. Even if she somehow manages to convince Luna to give her another chance, she can't take back what she's done, and she can't fix the damage.

This isn't the Equestria we all know and love quite yet.
