Beautiful, Celestia easily hides the truth of her past and creates a grand lie that lasted throughout the ages about what truly happened to her sister from the world at large. 'Oh no, my dear sister was captured by a demon named Nightmare Moon and even though I defeated said demon my sister is still gone, oh well guess ill make sure that there is no further mention of her from the books so that nobody will know who she is or what she represented or what her accomplishments were and what she did for all of Equestria, only I will be known throughout history. All Hail Celestia!' Cause if Celestia really did care about her little sister she would have paid more attention to her instead of her crew of flank kissing noble cronies, or if she had a realization afterwards she would have ensured that her sister wouldnt be forgotten or made into a cruel holiday, but the opposite happened instead.
Cant wait to see if or when Luna returns to Equestria to see what has changed during her absence and see that she was pretty much forgotten and erased from history and what her reaction would be.
Honestly, I enjoy this direction with Sunset. No BS of 'oh she just ditched you? I'll be taking you now'. Realistically, nobody has a reason to trust Sunset here, so keeping her on a tight leash whilst you knock the ego out of her.
All we need now is twilight showing up with the elements.
Welp , Time for Sunset to earn that Stockholm Syndrom teacher way , instead off OFC way
<All anime asshol... I mean Mentors pull off smallest violins on the world to press F for Sunny>
Oh come on , how much more Lucna needs to pull all the stop and go for News Interview to ... "Share the Love" about Celestia with world? I mean the same amount of Love that Celly showed in their early carrier + when she kinda KILLED Lucna and then ERASED her from history by the way of small footnot delegation ...
Probably not much considering that Sunny might have more data to share ... and Lucna might go for therapy to get rid of her own ... Lets call it "unhealthy one-sided attachment to Celly that was before they took over herding the nation" ... doesn't have catchy acronim but its a start of godly diagnostics
Shouldn't be that hard or expensive right ?

Well to be fair, lets try to look at it from a different perspective for a moment.
From how sunset spoke here, Princess Luna was known, even her titles like Fiendbane and Mistress of the Night were, so as far as we know her history and accomplishments haven't been hidden to glorify Celestia, only the circumstances of her banishment.
Celestia only knows what she could see from her flawed perspective, with the influence of ponies she'd come to trust the advice of.
From an objective standpoint a demon had inhabited Luna's body, even if they didn't know the circumstances of how that came about, Luna had acted far more aggressively towards solving the nations problems even after her and her sister unlocked the elements of harmony, Killing foes instead of trying to treaty with them. I personally believe that she was justified in many of these cases, but that doesn't mean that it was the only option they had. From the last memory chapters we read of the early days before they got the elements Celestia was gifted a spear by some noble stallion and she didn't like it. If I were to make an assumption of Celestia off of the information we've been given in this story, it would be that she dislikes conflict, perhaps even abhors it. Which might well have contributed to how Luna's increasing propensity for efficient violence came to color her view of her.
I don't want to come off as saying that Celestia was justified in any of her actions or treatment of Luna, but we also quite easily forget that all of the interactions we are given are through the biased perspective of Luna, not a third unbiased party. Like discord said, Luna is the protagonist, which means we've got a main character bias with her, but she might well be an unreliable narrator when it comes down to it.
I'm quite sure that there's more to the situation between Celestia and Luna than we know, and from how much trust and love they had for one another in the last memory chapters, it's clear that this isn't a clear and cut: Celestia evil / Luna good, kind of deal.
She came after her now, with the full intention to bring her home. Why would she do that if she only sought to punish or revile her? She obviously must still care a great deal for her sister. What I can't quite figure out yet is whether Celestia genuinely still believes that her sister is possessed by a demon and wants to redeem her, or whether she's come to understand that there's more to it than that and simply wants to help the sister she wronged so terribly.

For Sunset it is easy for her to find any knowledge of Luna by being granted access to the Royal Library which houses all of the information that Celestia is keeping out of the hooves of the world, what better way to keep those not in the know or deserve to be in the know by locking it up, and Susnset being thirsty for knowledge and power, could easily come across these lockedaway tomes of the past, read up on it, find out that there is a second alicorn and it was Celestia's sister and put the dots together of 'Celestia had a sister, nopony knows about said sister, books said this took place in ages past with all her accolades n accomplishments n titles, nopony knows about said things cause it was hidden away, therefore Celestia hides away the past and history that doesn't look too favorably upon herself when said history paints her badly for her inactions during times of crises.' We know that Sunset does have the potential, but what she lacked was discipline and firm guidance, something that Celestia seems to be lacking in handing out for her students and the nobility she deals with.
Then we get to Celestia herself, there are times where trying to parley/treaty with her enemies is a lost cause, those that look at peace and say 'Nah man, that life isnt for me, I prefer war and war accessories', just look at Sombra and Discord, and possibly Tirek if Luna was around for that debacle, those cannot be talked to and expect peace to happen. Celestia is the diplomat but even diplomats know when words dont work to solve the issue that you then have to use the sword to end a threat. And that same Spear she received, isnt that the same one that she then used to fight against Luna before killing her? Looks like she didnt get rid of said gift after all, just put it away out of signt n out of mind until she realized that violence is necessary.
And Celestia coming for her now is that she had 1000 years to deal with her failures as a sister and as a ruler. As a sister she failed colossally for failing to be there for her when she needed her, for not sticking by her side when she knew things were going sour, and for sticking with the nobles who served no purpose other than backseat complaining DURING A MILITARY CAMPAIGN, who shouldve fucking stayed back home instead of eating through their food reserves for lavish meals. So far from all of the memories we have seen Celestial has consistently sided with the nobles over her own sister instead of using her own brain and thinking for a change, both of them are alicorns of immense power, the nobility shouldve learned that constantly secondguessing and being rude to one half of the diarchy is a suicidal move and yet neither of them bothered to discipline or rebuke them so naturally said nobility kept getting with shit.
Lastly we get to her appearing on Earth and saying that complete lie to the whole world for her reason. Yes she wants her sister back but she flat out lied about what happened, I am patiently waiting for Luna and Sunset in tow to find a news station and get them to televise what actually happened as to permanently ruin any trust her 'loving' sister has built with humanity.

You raise some fair points, and for the most part we don't disagree on Celestia having done wrong by Luna in the larger whole of the story.
Yet I think that it's perhaps a bit early to make all of the assumptions about how or what Celestia has been doing the last 1000 years, when all we have to go off of is a power-hungry 18 year old Sunset. Assuming that Celestia has hidden information about Luna is not a given as of right now, though I do agree that she quite likely has veiled certain historical events as to not besmirch either of them and keep the peace, but to assume that everything Celestia has done is out of vain self-glorification or malicious negligence is perhaps shooting her too quickly. It seems that this version of Equestria doesn't follow the story in the show 1 to 1, so assumptions made based on how Celestia kept her sister a secret in the show may be founded only in guesswork.
She did take Luna's advice multiple times in the memories. The earlier memory chapters paint her in much more of a negligent and frankly incompetent manner, while the newer chapters showed how they both cared about and respected one another, especially the test with the tree of harmony. But I think what's important to note there is that in terms of the timeline of these memories, as far as I can tell, they don't move chronologically from past to present.
The first ones we see are the most recent / the closest to Luna's banishment, a while after she and her sister discovered the elements and defeated discord. While the recent memories seem to be just around the time of discords banishment, before Luna took in the Demon or Sombra appeared.
From that we can see that things started out better between them, but got gradually worse over time, and while I don't think Luna is entirely the one to blame for that, she's not without fault in how it got there. You are right that some creatures cannot be reasoned with and that violence can be necessary, but when Luna was faced with the terrible choice of how to deal with Sombra and his slaves, she chose to trick a demon prince into inhabiting her body so she could learn how to traumatize creatures with their worst fears so deeply as to defeat them, and we saw how that one ended... Not only was it risky and frankly bordering on anti-villain territory, but she also didn't take responsibility for her actions afterwards, nor did she share with her sister her plan or ask for help in ridding herself of the demon afterwards.
Now to be fair, the Nobles in this story have so far been shown to be as two faced and reprehensible as most nobles depicted in these kinds of stories are. As such I'm not going to honor them so far as to try and see things from their perspective, but Celestia has at least sometimes shown herself to have redeeming qualities. From Celestia's perspective Luna had turned more and more violent and dangerous as their kingdom moved further and further towards peaceful ways.
As of right now we cannot tell how much the demon truly affects our current Luna/Lucna, but it seems to be swinging more so in the direction of how she was just prior to her banishment the more unstable she becomes. Before she was banished she was referring to herself as "We" and doing evil laughs, telling her sister how she could smell her fear. At that point everything had stacked itself in such a way that it felt like the whole world was against her, but we know that the demon was whispering in her mind that entire time and that it clearly colored her actions as they began to act as one.
I feel a little as if I'm beginning to ramble here but the point I'm trying to illustrate is that while Celestia was largely at fault for alienating Luna, Luna herself didn't exactly make it any easier for her by turning from a blunt heroic figure with a slight menace about her into a brutal, efficient and cold killing machine that couldn't refrain from antagonizing those around her, even if some of them did deserve it. I'm quite sure that while we attribute most of the reasoning behind how it got to the breaking point to the nobles and Celestia herself, but we should not disregard the Demon Prince that was most likely actively trying to corrupt Luna and turn her from the path of good.
As for Celestia today. Having revisited how the confrontation between them ended I now fully believe that she thought her sister possessed and was to some degree right in the assumption, the way she went about solving it was frankly terrible, but that's part of where her flawed nature comes into play. From Celestia's perspective she was trying to save her sister from a demon that had overtaken her, and may even believe that she succeeded in doing so. I find it prudent to add that during the speech you mentioned as a huge lie, she didn't bring up anything largely incriminating about Luna, she didn't mention her being a monster or dangerous, only scared, hiding and in need of help.
So as for her intentions in coming here, I quite strongly believe that she her intent is to try to do something to right those wrongs the Nightmare rightfully accused her of during their confrontation. I Believe that she was a fool, both naive and negligent, but not out of malice, and certainly not for a lack of care for her sister. From what we know she traveled across the stars at the first sign of her still being alive, (which might possibly mean that she thought her dead until then) and has done nothing but apologize, reassure and try to help since she's gotten there.
But I think I'll leave it there for now, I've played devil's advocate quite enough now, and I could be entirely wrong about Celestia being redeemable, but I consider it highly likely that they'll come to interact with each other at least a little more throughout the story, and that perhaps we'll even get an even earlier set of memories from their early life together giving us some further insight into their relationship.
Thank you for engaging with me in these matters, it's been quite fun to try and consider different perspectives as well as revisiting some chapters to understand the whole of the story better.

I should probably chill a little tbh, considering that my rambling comments are now collectively longer than the current chapter... Apologies.
Love the story btw, I'm quite invested as you can possibly tell...

Indeed, it is with these debates and talks that we try to figure out this story, in all of its confusingness, I am still on the boat that Luna was wronged after trying so hard to keep Equestria safe, and the trouble she went through to have the thestrals integrated into Equestria while the rest of said nation only saw monsters even though they are just ponies with different rules ingrained into their being.
What saddens me is that they saw Luna as their savior or at the very least the one pony in power that didnt see them as monsters n beasts who gave them a home and a place in their nation only to see her get offed, removed from history and with her gone pony society as a whole most likely turned against them and they are probably in hiding once more, waiting for their savior to return and save them again.

What I'll say is thus; Remember just how long a thousand years is. To Luna, it was barely worth a paragraph break. Further consider, just how much time that is for a person to change, compared to when Luna herself changed fundamentally as a character in the time it takes to say "And what could you do to stop me?"

Don't worry about it, I love reading the essays!

It's a shame we haven't really been able to see or get much of this...
Ya know, usually, I refrain from commenting on every chapter or at the least from clustering up comments with a mass of me. But damn you most chapters have at least that one nugget of info that has something to say, and with the short but rapid-fire pace you put them out it's making me see so many different things in each chapter.
