I really like what you've done here. I almost never read M-rated stories (because they're almost always sex-related), but I decided to make an exception for this one. I'm glad I did!
In my opinion, if you made your character female at the start, it would have made more sense, like instead of genderbending your own character (Because what's the point of having your character be Male in the start. if he's going to turn female Later on)
which happens too often in these kind of stories.

if both equestrias moon and earths moon accept her then maby she could use them to open a portal, or even better perhaps when she visits equestria she then has her old moon convert itself into a traveling moon so she can take it back to earth with her. that would be an amazing change in story for celestia and anyone else in equestria when they look out for nightmare moons retern only for them to loose their moon

Funny you should mention that... 5S/4 is actually one of the initial inspirations of this fic. I wanted to write something having to do with 5S/4, but that band wagon had come and gone. (And I didn't want the fic to get nuked by the mods.) So that's where I got the "Luna on Earth" part of the story, but I also wanted to do something weird and unique, and up to that point I had never seen someone do the "Interstellar castaway" method of getting a character from point A to point B... Actually, besides my own story, I still don't think I've seen it done... And, I want to go on about the actual writing, but if I continue I'm probably going to drop hints and spoilers.

I’ve seen a few. The most memorable one languishes eternally un-updated, though. A sympathetic version of Nightmare Moon getting some genuine TLC in her exile to the backwoods of Planet Earth was kinda intriguing.

No, that followed from where I started talking about the most memorable one. You’re obviously not going with a very sympathetic Nightmare.
Of course, now that I read the chapter, I see this is also one of the more infuriatingly dense Celestias of the multiverse.
Luna’s at least got good reason to have delved so deep into the depths of dark magic… that sun blinded traitor forced her to!
But I still saw those hints of just how bad Nightmare is gonna be.
Celestia is the one collapsing the diarch first? That’s new and interesting indeed!
Look like Sunbutt and her harem used to get always with anything and didn’t expect someone to defied back with violence.
Anyway, it’s ironically a good learning experience for Celestia. As Equestria get bigger, the more expensive this lesson is.

Wow. Just wow. Awesome.
You know, this is what I always felt like this was the more realistic way things went down. Rather than a corruption or darkness in Luna, it's just Celestia being a selfish bitch that caused Luna to flip. It would also explain why she's so apologetic after a thousand years. It's a damn war, not a pacifist paradise. You strive for peace, and avoid harming civilians. It wasn't like Luna led a goose stepping march on civilians. These were soldiers that were prepared to die, and probably would have done the same to her own soldiers.
Anyways, I hope you still go the motherly route with Celestia later on as a redemption arch. I actually prefer that version of her rather than the trope of "actually she was a manipulative bitch all along". I'd rather see her learning how to her failures ultimately, and that "Luna" can learn to accept that as well.
Luna / Nightmare Moon also falls into the trap of being unforgiving unless the Macguffin brainwashed her.
Regardless, this is certainly fascinating to see.
I’ll be honest I like this telling of why she fell from grace much more than the others I’ve read.
One she always felt more militant than her sister if not just more aggressive, and the bat ponies being recruited makes sense because they would be seen as weird if not dangerous by the other tribes. But because they joined later, whilst seemingly more peaceful than the others too despite the shitty had they where dealt. And the fact that she had a legion in such short notice for the invasion shows they are very patriotic and love Luna.
Secondly the council seems to have forgotten that the griffins invaded and who knows what treatment the city would have received from them if she hadn’t intervened and stopped it with as the one witness said, “the war of the century” like the Spanish-American war in terms of how one sided it turned out.
And lastly I think that if it wasn’t for the suddenness of Celestia pulling a fast one on her to try and remove her from the princess title and the responsibility of the moon it causes her to basically do this as a crime of passion. If Celestia didn't try to pull this off immediately like she did I could see it going much worse as a civil war. Like the bat ponies would have gone berserk and tried to genicide the other tribes because of oppression Luna being the last straw. Hell that’s what saved her the most I feel, Both being so blindsided by the others response. I’d even bet that whilst she would have been royally mad at the betrayal she would have maybe not cared as much if Celestia hadn’t gone for the moon, something she earned.
So yeah good chapter and good story so far.

Honestly, this chapter made me felt less emphatic toward luna.
There's this anime called 'black butler' about a boy who sold his soul to a demon, who become his faithful butler. When the studio gave in to yaoi fanbase, They decided to turn the boy into a demon, so the butler got to stuck with him for eternity because of his contract.
And that whole event was potrayed as somewhat of an accident, I still hate it with passion.
If I guess correctly, then Nightmare is similiar to that demon butler. Deep down is straight forward and pure to the most primal desire.
This... Luna purposefully find a loop hole and cheat. What's different between her Celestia? They ain't much different, isn't it? Doing whatever they believed is for the best and blindsidely dragged everyone along with them.
I do hope you do something worthwhile with it. I'd hate to see this to turned into Nightmare-bashing like that another human-nightmare transformation fanfic.
The new Luna kind of smell a little bit like anon the green guy. That could either be good or bad. Anon could be absolutely cool dude or a piece of shit while still have the same personality.

My best guess is that nightmare moon is a nightmare that luna employed insted of vanquishing. I do hope that luna and the human mc do have some sort of meeting, if anything maby she left a recording along with the memorys to say her piece to the new her after they have her memorys for context.
celestia was fine using her sister till most of the enemys were dead. Strange that she only does this now is it not? Almost like the fear of equestria has been made to the outside world and enemys will think twice before attacking but celestia doesnt want word to spread that she is like her sister so why not throw her under the bus.
Also i am interested in knowing if celestia and the sun even can sever her from the moon as if so then this has never been a partnership and more one sister having an axe over the others head till she is not of use anymore. Plus if i read it correctly in the last chapter then lunas connection to the moon helps her survive some things that would have killed her. And celestia is doing this to appese the nobles. ponys who would want to have the "annoying" princess out of the picture
All in all im looking forward to any glimpse of equestia in the modern day as from the image so far im guessing its ended up 1 of 3 things.
1) close to the show with slight changes like the bat ponies either being mistreated or having left.
2) Celestia has become a puppet ruler who is blind to the suffering of the common ponies
3) Celestia snaps for some reason and becomes a being close to or is daybreaker. Maby out of hearing for the first time with an open mind about what the nobles think of her sister and that she is gone or maby from suddenly having lunas work put on her also and the bat ponies likely causing issues after finding out their princess's fate (maby without the mare in the moon they think celestia killed her and the elements becoming stone and useless would not help her case of saying she is not).
There is also the fact that if the moon can talk it is defently not happy with celestia and might even be screaming at her every time celestia so much as touches them

From the narration so far there wasn't a "human mc" at all, as it's made clear the baby Luna "inhabited" was stillborn ie no soul inside. "Lucas" is just Luna as a blank slate without her previous memories, and now what's happening is she's recovering said memories.

im thinking of them as diffrent people atm. while they have the same base personality proberbly they have diffrent lives and stuff. while the memorys might be his as lucas was luna there is the argument that he is still lucus, he might have lunas memorys now but is still basicly lucus.
We likely wont ever have a real example of this but it is a quite interesting thing to think about with things like this. If you yourself were a reincarnation of someone would you be them? what if i told you that you were a mass murderer from ages past? you dont rememeber that but does that matter? what if you got your memorys back? are you now them? a better question is are you still you at that point?
What im saying is i hope lucus goes home and hugs his mother. maby he can once rememebring lunas life then let it go. Luna died and now he is there.

Ya know.... I just realized... in the original series, celestia new she banished her sister to the moon. But in this fic... it has to look like she just forced the elements to obliterate her sister. Not just kill... erase. I wonder how that will effect her?

Yah. She changed her trajectory. Which means that no face appeared on the moon. So from celestia's perspective. Luna was just gone, Vanished, Thanos snapped out of existence.
