Unironically some of my favorite dialogue to write.
So the Unicornians who attacked Ùllahdmaiden weren't caught by the Windigoes. Sapphire in particular is alive, nearby, and terrified of Luna in particular.
Given the circumstances, I suspect there's going to be a dramatic confrontation between Luna and Sapphire...
Ah. Sapphire, who murdered her cousin and joined the government who left her people to starve. Who will shortly have to confront the fact that she's basically a villain, and that Luna is a respected hero.
Sounds familiar.
I wonder how present-day Celestia would react if Luna compared her to Sapphire.
Honestly I’m starting to like the memories more than the main story line at this point.
A Blue legged hoof turns another page on the Journal
It is not often that Her Highness speaks to the Guard about her past, and often what she speaks about cannot be found in any officially published history book.
Take, for example, that the actual story of Hearth's Warming was rather bloodier than the pageants would tell us. Ponies warring against ponies, senseless carnage and death. As an officer of the Guard, I have lost Ponies under my Command, and have had to come to terms with that, but these were civilians, townsfolk, often children experiencing such horror.
I ask myself thinking time and again how could this happen? Aren't we Ponies better than this.
But then I realize that, No. No we are not.
To this day people mistrust Her Highness's Sarosian Ponies, and even among Unicorns, Pegasai, and Earth Ponies, no small amount of tribalism or classism remains. Why, I caught Shinybritches' own so-called nephew Blueblood haranguing one of my corporals to bring him tea service for as if we were the maid staff, for pity's sake.

addendum: Her Highness Luna when talking of the past shows classic signs of what Guard medics call Battle Fatigue or Post Traumatic Stress.
Were she under my command I'd suggest her time with a shrink, or at the very least time with the troops getting comfortably drunk like the enlisted do to cope, but then only with company, as one should not suffer alone.
Nothing brings people together quite like bitching about work

I think you'll find similarities all over this fic

That's quite alright. They both lead to the same place.

A tale as old as time.

" You would think as a Pony with 'noble breeding' he would've payed attention during history... I'll be sure to cut him down from the rafters and set him loose again... Eventually."
