Nice chapter.
Also, the new cover art looks great!
And so the child of prophecy, who conveniently was also the prophet, attains that which she always knew she deserved.
Thus reinforcing the idea in her head that she always knows best.
I'm somehow reminded of a certain other solar-themed Unicorn who just knew she was worthy of becoming an Alicorn.
On another note, this doesn't in any way justify having hidden literally all of her plans from Luna. Not that Luna will question it. She already trusts Celestia far more than she deserves, seeing her become an Alicorn right in front of her will just reinforce that trust.
Darn, I was kinda hoping Luna would become an Alicorn first
I sense a lack of communication : )
Great chapter!
New cover art yooooo

Spoiler that please
I have a problem with this story. I can't read it for hours on end since I'm always caught up...
Geeze.... in the previous cover art, it vaguely looked like luna had been stabbed with the spear. Now it really looks like she's been stabbed in front of a fireplace. Such an ominous cover image.

Here I expected both to ascend together, for symbolic reasons.
I'm rather surprised she spared Ems, Saph sure, but Emerald? The one who has been completely antagonistic the entire time? I'm curious if it'll be a 'revenge cannot bring your heart to peace', or an 'I decide what vengeance brings' moment. In the case of the former, then perhaps Lu knows this deep down and doesn't want to kill them despite all her rage. In the case of the latter, I suppose she just wants to savor the taste of her vengeance.
In any case, Celestia's ascension should bring Unicornia down to heel, or force Lulu to do something tragic. It's unfortunate that the only thing ponies will remember here is Tia's ascension over Lulu's military successes.
Celestia seems to have a habit of hiding things even from the only family she has ever had left.
Pd: What a good cover!
Arise, Celestimus Prime.....
And proceed to screw up through history so consistently you turn your own sister into your own Lunatron.

To be fair, its awfully difficult to tell another person "Hey I gotta do this semi shady thing. Don't worry tho, I'll be a demigod afterward."

We've got a bit still.

Halp I've been spoil'd halp.

Unironically, I recommend rereading it.
Things have a... Fascinating context when you know what's going on.
And I know for a fact several important threads have yet to be pointed out.

While it would be nice, the reality is the trials need to be undergone alone. Celestia's abilities to work with her sister are not what is being tested, but her own merits. Even in canon, with the one ascension we do see with Twilight. Her friends were present yes, but ultimately Twilight was the one who did all the work. Fixing what she had done sure, but she still did it alone.

We're just gonna have to see.

No Overlord Hasbro no!

Yes, but Celestia had most of 15 years to at least tell Luna something. Celestia's future sight, the position of the Solar church in Unicornian society (which seems to be quite relevant to Luna's interests, considering Hoarfrost, Emerald and Sapphire are/were all apparently Solarists), maybe at least hint that she wanted to visit the Cathedral someday for personal reasons.
But this is the first Luna is learning of any of this. Taken together with everything else, it's yet another way she's neglected Luna. It's hard to give her the benefit of the doubt at this point.
