The author talking to themselves in the authors notes? You good?

That's fair. But in this particular situation, it still seems kind of off.
Celestia knew she would be at the Cathedral during a battle led by Luna. She arranged for Luna to lead that battle, but she simply assumed she could insert herself into the battle despite being a VIP. Not once in the months since sending Luna to war did she even try to fabricate an excuse for why she'd need to be at the Cathedral.
It's not that it's unrealistic. It's believable that somepony, or someone, would make such an error. It's just that every time Celestia was at fault for a failure to communicate with Luna (it's often Luna's fault too, being Moon Marked doesn't absolve everything), is another time she made the same kind of mistake as the one which supposedly led her to betray Luna later on.
So it sticks out, because it makes it more and more difficult to believe she really was that oblivious. I'd think she should've known better by then.
This is a good chapter. It stopped being so stressful for a while. I'm glad for Luna that she got a well-deserved rest and some answers.

Yea... But it's not just a secret (for example, Luna's connection to the Moon or Celestia's dangerous spells).
It looks like Celestia wanted to achieve her own benefit and used Luna all this time. Like a puppet. Like a battering ram.
Until Sunbutt got what she wanted, she didn't tell her sister anything. Tia could have told Luna everything after the fall of Pegasopolis, when it became clear that the prophecy was coming true. But Celestia didn't do that.
It can be anything, but it's not a family relationship. I am even more convinced that Celestia does not love Luna. Just use this moonmark. Tia may not realize it, but that's exactly what she's doing.
Gosh this chapter was excellent denouement to everything that was going on before. Sweet, yet sad when you know what these little issues between them will lead to.
Celestia being treated as a perfect being
The fact that Celestia becomes the first Alicorn to return will likely stifle any attempt Luna has at rehabbing the moon's image to ponies. She was the first to return after thousands of years. When Luna becomes an Alicorn, she'll be the second to return after a year or so.
If Luna became the first alicorn to return and it was for the moon, ponies may have been more willing to accept it in the future.
Celestia stealing Luna's thunder. Luna did all the hard work of planning and executing brilliant military operations and bringing down fortresses ponies thought unbeatable. Only for Celestia to rush in at the last minute and become the resident sun god avatar. That's what the ponies will remember when they think of the unification of the tribes.
Celestia not trusting her sister to spare some pony's lives even when she sanctioned whatever action Luna took against them.
Luna pushing aside her own feelings for her sister. She may be "fine" with Celestia getting the glory today. But she won't be happy when ponies treating her with open contempt ignore her accomplishments or attribute them to her sister instead of her.
We've looked back and found the seeds of their current and past predicaments.
I just hope Luna ends up with a cute mare. Clover the Clever would be cute to see with her.
hue hue. Claiming the moon

In my experience, siblings usually actively hate each other and often fight. At least, they do until around early/mid teens of which they again become a perfectly loving family. At least, that's what I saw between my five cousins. I never had any siblings close enough to my own age to really count in this scenario
Tia just shared her prophecy dreams to Lulu, I was expecting Lulu to like wise come out with her conversations to the moon. I suppose not.

I think the idea of reciprocation is something she considers "weird non-Moon Marked pony things." She has her own equivalent secret to the one Celestia just admitted to keeping, but she might not realize that she would be expected to share it in return. While most of us understand that trust should be met with trust, Luna might be blind to that, as it's an unspoken social convention rather than a logical inference.

I get the need to set up your payoff, but while you're out laying down your track your passengers are waiting in that snowy forest 60 chapters back wondering if the train is going to start moving again at some point. IRL, I like it when the tracks are all planned and meticulously placed on well engineered bridges and through safe tunnels before my train ever leaves the station. Speaking metaphorically though, that makes for some rough story pacing.

I've got two siblings, both younger, and the three of us would tussle and argue all the time, but we never actually hated each other. It was more of a rivalry than hatred, trying to constantly one-up the others.

I'm assuming none of you fought to the point where someone was shoved into a wall so hard the wall broke?
11837846
Drywall? Wooden wall? Brick wall?
My own answer is "no" regardless, but my understanding is that drywall can break if you lean on it wrong, whereas a brick wall is harder to break than a human ribcage.
11837846
We didn't. we bruised each other, but that was the worst of it. And that was usually by accident. Sounds like I got lucky in that respect.
11837852
Dry, but point stands that there was a 4-5 foot tall chunk of wall missing on a side. iirc, the other side was even slightly denting outwards. It mellowed out, but yeah glad that's over.
11837854
You're probably fine, that was about the extent of it... as far as I know...
Author: "Get your mind out of the gutter! Yeah that's right, I'm talking to you! You know who you are! "
Me: "No "
If you already know how it starts, how it happens and how it ends, is it really a test?
Celestia always knew she would succeed, she always had that guarantee, when she was on the battlefield she really had nothing to fear.
Can someone like that be considered worthy?
11837707
Personally, I like to imagine that these races have differences beyond the physical, and that ponies are naturally more sociable and friendly than humans or something similar.
11837662
No idea what you're talking about.
11837680
11837690
I would attribute it to 'not wanting to be seen as crazy'.
11837691
There had to be a very good reason Luna was driven mad by being betrayed.
11837696
11837861
Both of you! You know who you are!
11837707

Luna also feels very indebted to Celestia, due to Celestia running interferance with Sapphire and Emerald as fillies.
11837730
11837740
While true, I would say it's more that Luna knows that other Ponies think she's crazy. So she's learned to keep such things to herself as a defensive measure.

While a fair point, it is also true that some people have commented that they like this memory portion more than the main story.
Anyway, I think said payoff is going to knock quite a few socks off.
