Did Celestia know about her future sight even then? Had she been hiding it from Luna longer than I thought?
If so, then it's one more titanic obstacle in the way of reconciliation. Luna was the closest living family Celestia had for thousands of years, and Celestia never once confided in her. On top of the betrayal and the many foolish mistakes Celestia made surrounding it, here we have compelling proof that Celestia never trusted Luna.
I think this is the thing I was expecting from this set of memories. Luna just remembered something which will affect her in the present. She now knows, or at least can infer, that Celestia never considered her an equal. Maybe Celestia loved her, and maybe even valued her opinion. But to Celestia, it wasn't a partnership. She considered herself Luna's guardian, and arrogantly perceived herself as having authority over Luna.
Celestia saw herself as Luna's protector, and the one who could manage her strange personality. When she believed Luna was turning on her, she didn't see a disgruntled Princess of the Moon, she saw her strange little sister about to lash out before thinking again.
Now, Luna needs protection, and someone, anyone, who can understand her. She's so traumatized she can barely do anything but lash out at perceived problems.
All because Celestia never once, in their entire lives, trusted her.
A hoof turns the page in a journal.
From my early childhood, I always stood out from other ponies. From a youth being more interested in music than the 'Military Tradition' my father tried to instill to me, or the fact I could never quite sit still or focus on studies like the other foals. Or my troubles with social interaction that plague me to this day.
The foalhood doctors called it autism, Father chalked it up as yet another way I had failed him.
Her Highess Princess Luna? She actually called me into office for a private talk about it. And said, in the days of her youth, they spoke of it as being "Moon Marked", and it was nothing to be ashamed of, and that if I was in good company. I did not know how to react. One does not receive pep talks from the crown, so I simply froze.
She booped me. Luna herself as my witness, the Princess booped my muzzle, and told me to relax. I think her exact words were. "Chill out and take that stick out of your plot before my sister gets any ideas."
Next to that, let it be said that being one of few non-Sarosians in the Night Guard pales by comparison.

Oh there are many things to take away from this set of memories.
