I'm not sure if I'm reading too deep into things here, but... I think Luna missed some important subtext just now.
I think Celestia was using the idea of looking for something useful to justify visiting the ruins of their home. By now, she'll have developed at least some of the habits of a politician, which includes hiding your true motives behind false ones. In this case, admitting that she wants to visit their old home would reveal a sentimental weakness that somepony could exploit. By instead saying she wants to look for something useful a Warmage left behind, that weakness is covered while still giving her a reason to visit.
Luna, likely because she's Moon Marked (autistic), doesn't look past the face value of words unless she thinks she's being deceived. Of course she doesn't think Celestia would deceive her, least of all over something like this, so she believes Celestia when she says she just wants to look for any Warmage gear.
Celestia, used to ponies understanding the theater of politics, likely hasn't realized that Luna is being completely straightforward. She may see Luna's dismissal of the scavenging attempt as a veiled statement that she doesn't feel sentimental over their foalhood home, or their mother. In Celestia's perspective, Luna is being incredibly callous right now, which likely wouldn't be helping any impression Celestia may have that Luna needs a minder.
I think that if Celestia had simply directly asked Luna if she wanted to visit their home one last time, Luna would have told her exactly what her narration said; that she's content to let the ghosts of the past rest in peace.
... Speaking of that closing statement, I wonder if Luna will be able to bring herself to apply that kind of thinking to her situation in the present day.
Huh, I'm all caught up. The horror!
Interesting story so far : )
