Fucking badass. I'm gonna guess, members of the Solar Guard are gonna try to attack him if they get the chance. Not only that, the family of the dead guard will probably try to assassinate him. Good luck with that.
Fucking loved the fight
Oh my god. My sides hurt.
Well, it appears this version of Equestria enjoys it's bloodsport.
And my opinion of Raegdan has dropped.
Umm... "struck", not "striked"...
*sees pic* daaaamn
that was brutal. just the way I like it
I suspected it when reading the fight description (especially when he actually jumps on the pegasus), but that pic confirms it. That's only medium armor for a human. If he was wearing what we consider to be heavy armor, the ponies would probably think he was a walking siege engine.
Welp. That torso was probably replaced with pony flavoured jam.
WHY CAN I NOT GIVE THIS STORY MORE LIKES!?!?!
Great chapter, and good job Req for editing it.
And honestly, I'm wondering why Celestia has been and continues to put up with the Captain of the Solar Guard, when he is clearly speciesist, hates her sister, and does not properly care for the troops under his command. I understand the troops will follow his orders because he's their chief officer, but the troops don't follow the Captain himself. He's not the kind of soldier that others are willing to fight for not just because of orders, but because they know he's watching out for them.
And because of that key difference, they aren't truly giving their all in battle. They don't trust their commander enough to at least try and get them home alive.
6571942 yeah gonna have to agree with you there my opinion of him has drooped also.
6572043 nice avatar, just got destiny ttk for the xbone today
fookn rekt m9
He is a certified / bonified, badass man of badassitude. Otherwise known as a beast.
Epic...I have no other words.
Yeah, those ponies look about the size of a large dog so I can see a hammer blow sending one flying.
Luna definitely has the old mentality of not caring too much if a perceived opponent is killed it looks like.
Reading this the final words of a mortal combat match came to mind, just wanted to see FATALITY at the end of the fight. Such a brutal world you've created, and I loved it.
hell yeah gotta love being human.
great chapter. love this story can't wait for more.
nice touch with rainbow's veiw of the fight.
That is one brutal fight
6545877 you have an amazing understanding of the way in which the body moves and fluows while in motion compared to another creature like a pony even if it can move its hooves in a special way. You know how to exemplify upon the human bodys strengths however you did reign in on a few of its weaknesses but that can be brought up for a later time and you did an amazing job exemplifying the pony weaknesses, but left out most of their strengths.
6545877 either way you go this is still at an absolutely amazing chapter.
When I saw the picture I thought that the hammer's handle would be longer
Well, that's one way to make the entirety of the Solar Guard (the people you are going to work with) hate you.
I don't really feel bad for the pony that died, though, considering the Solar Guards were trying to kill Raegdan.
6571942
This was bloodsport. Death happens in bloodsport. If you think you can't die, you're an arrogant bastard. If you're not willing to die, you don't compete. Doubly so if you know that your opponent is particularly viscous. So Raegden killing the earth pony does not effect my opinion of him.
After all, it remains to be seen if the obvious pleasure he derives from this comes from the thrill of the fight, the from the domination of victory, or from causing pain to others. My opinion of him will take a hit if it's the last of the three, but Luna put it plainly that experience has taught him to fight to survive, and sometimes that means killing.
Like I said, the Solar Guards should have known what they were getting in to, especially with how long they took to get ready for the fight. They had plenty of time to think it over. It's perfectly fair for you to still disagree, of course, but I felt like I had to share my piece.
My Celestia, that was brutal. Beautiful......but brutal.
Well then..... That escalated quickly.
Is Luna implying what I think or is my mind just dirty?
I'm in love with this story. Keep up the good work. *Swoon*
Well, if that ass of a solar captain didn't make me hate the solars, then this chapter did. I think they got what they deserved after what they tryed to do to Raegdan. He didn't even try to really hurt them untill he was backed into a corner and his self-preservation skills kicked in.
That was light plate over padding. Heavy armor for a human clocks in at almost sixty pounds of metal, five pounds of leather, and six pounds of padding. They should be glad he didn't use a mace. There would just be pony jam left if he did, because an additional five pounds swinging like the hammer which the head probably weighs a pound and is only practical in two directions only... Yeah, they would be in pieces. Also, he threw his defense away and forgot about it. He should of chucked it through the electric field and let the unicorn deal with an electric frisbee with hard edges. Then go to town on him while he was distracted.
Oh how wonderful. The human kills a guy and wins a tournament. It was everything I could ever hope to read about, brutally maimed contestants with Raegdan the victor. I feel as though Lunas special introduction of the Lunar Guard had some degree of success despite despite its brutality. Future recruits of the Lunar guard could take Raegdan's deathly fighting style to heart making they Lunar guard the most deadly branch of the Equestria armed forces. On the other hand, this display could dissuade possible recruitment for a time. All in all, loved the fight.
Also, something witty about beating dead horses.
6572389 Welcome to a real fight. There is a reason for the name, Martial Art; it is the art of killing.
Desire will breed the will to kill into you.
Instinct will guide the body to strike.
Training will refine the motions.
Discipline will restrain.
Chivalry has no place on the battlefield.
Fight with honor if you can, but don't let it be the death of you.
When it comes down to it, abandon what you need to. You can't protect anything if you're dead.
Good fight, even with rubbing it in the faces of the ponies who wanted to see our human die. I do feel for the family that lost a father, but little else.
Good chapter!
That....Was brutiful....
That was so metal
My reaction to the ending and how deliciously brutal it was.
10/10 - would read the ass beating again.
Whoa nice sketch brutal ending.
I feel sorry for the family of the one that was declared dead, but the others, not so much.
Besides, the medics didn't exactly run to help with Raegdan's bleeding side and arm, now did they?
I liked this chapter, I'm surprised Celly didn't stop the fight before the death of the guard however the guards were striking to kill. The use of penetrating weapons at the start means that they wanted to kill the human, personally I would have been striking to kill right off the bat if I saw them doing that in a tournament. But it fits with the character that he was holding back.
Fucking. REKT.
Those bitches didn't stand a chance.
Delicious. And now imagine Rogadyn in true Heavy armor or heavnes forbid in Batman grade armor from Arkham Knight........ ahh it would be so..... KHORN like.
On the other hand I'm quite afraid that Luna might revert to a Nightamer Moon with this difernce that now she has near psychotic knight and her madness in pointed in one particular direction....... enemies of Equestria and Rogadyn......
I think that credo might be good for Night Guard.
Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
Luna shall free me.
But still this muisc I think was quite fitting to this battle
And the ponies will hate him more. They will fear Luna more. As if that Solar bigot did not enough for this.
With Luna's obvious isolation and appearance of the Solar guard the road to Nightmare Moon reborn is practically built already.
6572423
It's already tagged mature, a little sexiness between the resident human and our beloved nighttime princess wouldn't be frowned upon in my opinion.
That was pretty awesome. Kinda sucks that one had to die but it doesn't seem like he or his buds were holding anything back either so...
Well now that was a lot more brutal than our human was hoping for I bet, since he only got into such an `need to kill` battle because Luna got him into a three on one fight. Which I think frankly gives Raegdan a lot more leeway with me, since he honestly seemed to have not come to the tournament looking to kill. He was expecting to win a fight without getting blooded, but sadly politics got involved...aka Luna and the Solar Guard Douche-bag Leader butting heads.
As for the death happening...well frankly I can't be upset over that since those ponies were aiming to maim or kill him first. Their fault for escalating the match to a fight to the death sort of thing, so yeah I was all like 'FINISH THEM!' near the end. I mean seriously...pons should know better than to get murderous in a match. At least murderous first anyway...
6572383
I agree. That earth pony guard intentionally tried to kill another combatant deemed their equal by one of their reigning diarchs (the beings they're supposed to obey without question) in a game where the goal is to show not only your battle prowess by your strength, but also your control and restraint.
Knowing how far to go to win is important, but the show of true mastery is knowing exactly when to stop before you deal a killing blow.
To defeat your opponent without haphazardly having to kill your own just to show you're better in a mock-battle.
Raegdan only stopped relying on battle prowess, and began running on skill AND survival instinct once he'd not only suspected that they would immediately abandon all civility (in a cometition that is intentionally meant not to be to the death, no less) and attempt to kill him, but he also allowed them the first potentially fatal blows.
Once they got the first attempt at a killing blow and failed, only then did he follow them into the new rules of their impromptu battle to the death.
In fact, the other two are lucky that he and Luna were gracious enough to let them live, after they directly defied the rules of the game and went straight into an all-out fight to the death.
Raegdan had every right to finish them and kill them while they were down, yet still he held back on ending a clear and present danger to his life.
(Once someone shows they desire to kill you or your loved ones, they will never stop being a potential danger. The only way you will ever be 100% safe from them as a threat is when they are dead. This is the defining principal behind the phrase "justified homicide". If you did nothing to warrant the use of lethal force, yet are accosted without regard for your life of the lives of those close to you, you have every right to end the threat forever. No kindness, no mercy, no forgiveness. THAT is justice.)
IMO, it was foolish on Raegdan's part to allow them to live.
They all tried to kill him without the right or justification, and therefore he had every right to ensure they wouldn't try it again.
Now, they may very well try again, but this time they may try to do so while he sleeps, or poison his food, or they may even realize he's too dangerous to take on, and instead take it out on his family or hold them hostage.
It was foolish to let bigoted attempted murderers live, and it will probably come back to bite him and/or those close to him.
(Also, I hope the guard commander and the rest of the bigots out there in the guard all are met with imprisonment or worse. I can't stand racists.)
That was badass. I agree that it sucks one had to die, but them's the ropes. They knew what they were getting into when they signed up I imagine.
Few errors here and there, but i didn't remember to start marking any down until:
Striked should be struck. :3
Damn good chapter and I really look forward to the next one.
I also see Steadfast Ray becoming a problem.
6572734 I was thinking of this when the battle started.
