Holy shit. That was pretty epic.
I think we just discovered the digestive agent of this thing.
Passages are made, for something to pass through.
That's a horrifying thought alright.
Sphincters. The word you're looking for is "sphincters."
One thing that I really keep continually loving about this story is Raegdan's character. I don't mean Raegdan himself; I honestly loathe the guy. I love the way he's written. He's not the hero. He's not even remotely being portrayed as the hero. He's not the villain either, he doesn't have enough agency for that. What he is is the protagonist, though, and the story has absolutely no illusions about the fact that he's not a good person and isn't intended to look like it, either. We're forced to empathize with him to a degree due to a trick of perspective - it's his story, or rather Twilight's story, with him attached to it.
At the same time, though, it never gives you any illusions about who Raegdan is, or what he is. He's a failure, at the most fundamental level. He failed, he lost everything, and then he gave up on the most fundamental things that make a person worth of any kind of human regard and became just another monster in the dark. He's wonderfully easy to feel for and it still doesn't make him in any way the good guy.
Twilight is right to hate him and it's wonderful. I really love this story.
seriously applejack is really now sliding into the area of thinking she's better then them, she may not like lies but she really has no right to demand the truth from them.
and leaf stream still diserves some form of karma for the spying, celestia should know better.
Holy shit.
Wonder what the last thing Applejack saw on it since it blanked her mind?
7226887
It's written right there
There was something that looked like a face, and her mind felt it prudent to not remember that. Or maybe magic, doesn't matter either way.
Had some brain static here, I've seen underfed in print before, but thought this was pronounced undurft here.
Great chapter
Hey Crimmar, now that the Leviathan is dead, can we get a concise and complete description of it as a whole?
So far, what I am understanding is:
*It is plant based rather than animal based, perhaps a killer coral reef?
*It is possibly a symbiotic organism, with the "mutant squids" possibly functioning as the digestion system
*It is huge and like an organic structure on the inside
*It has a face...?
What I would particularly like to know is whether or not it is basically a killer coral reef, what the exact purpose of the corridors and hallways we saw were, what those squids were, and what it looked like from the outside.
Awesome monster designing btw, I can't wait to see what you got cooking for the Leviathan of Minos.
You sir. I salute you for this epic chapter.
You going to swim with the fishes.
Just, wow! This chapter! The way you described the Charybdis as something massive, alien . . Eldritch! It's what I expect and didn't expect at the same time. I just loved this chapter.
Finally finished with this one. Holy crow that was long. Just a little thought, that cannot be really considered an error: Airships usually used helium. Only Germany had to use hydrogen, as it was embargoed at the time to my knowledge. Don't quote me on that though. And again, can't be cosidered an error as it is just a tale told, not a stated fact.
What kind of face did AJ see though?
And an explosion that big (with a consequent burning) would produce a mushroom cloud I think. Not really important, but it can be used later.
And did the Royal Guards actually took orders from a Minotaur/Lunar guard? I guess they are not that doucheish like the Solars.
There are multiple typos, but I will only point out one (aside fromthe hooves one), as I really didn't bother keeping track of them.
I believe you are missing a word here.
Onwards!

jesus christ... that was fuckin good
7228713 The way it was described, being kind of plant-like. Made me vaguely think of The Old One from Demon's Souls. When you see it, it's this massive plant-like monstrosity that emerges from a thick fog and deep water. Only the one in this story has a more alien digestive system, rather than an insatiable need to devour souls.
Now that this fucker is Dead i Just KNOW someone is going to bitch about his ship/home/business getting destroy by the result of the explosion.
Ps. Expecting to se the bar brawl they want to participate in.
Krokus?

BIG plot hole here.
The tank should have been filled.
Luna can teleport the oxygen from the other side of the sphincter they found all the compressed O2 in.
She can't see where she's taking the oxygen from, but she doesn't need to.
She simply needs to randomly grab a set volume of the stuff from a rough guestmated area on the opposite side of the sphincter (we already saw her do this, with ease, twice no less) and place it in another location (preferably, one she CAN see).
She can see the near-empty tank, and she doesn't have to be perfectly precise with her placement.
Just teleport some of the compressed oxygen from the creature into where you can see the tank is.
Place the teleported compressed O2 inside the tank, approximately where the empty space of a hollow metal tube is (something she can easily know simply by looking at the tank itself and predicting the inner demensions, not hard to do at all, given she can see the whole tank).
By keeping the teleport volume a full inch away from where her line of sight clearly shows her that the tank's inner walls are (just to be safe), she can effectively fill the tank with pure oxygen at least to ~80% maximum capacity, thus giving them another tank full of air.
(Yes, you can breathe pure O2. It certainly isn't good for you long-term, and it's extremely dangerous if you're next to anything flammable, but they use 100% pure oxygen all the time for the elderly, for oxygen chambers, and a number of other medical reasons. If you DO breathe pure oxygen for a long time though, it'll start to eat away at your soft lung tissues, which isn't good. But they need it to survive, and the extra oxygen content (just under 5x stronger per breath) will make using it sparingly such as they were doing when they were flooded in the "stomach" VERY efficient for them.
Each breath will easily last them 4x longer (the human body isn't terribly efficient, and it won't use ALL the oxygen in each breath) before their lungs tell them they need more.
------------
TL;DR-
Luna could easily have teleported some of the compressed O2 from the leviathan's compressed air holding room into their tank, and that would have given them MUCH more air to breathe when they make their escape.
(Hell. Technically, though it would take about 10-15 teleports, she could have simply teleported the air around them into the tank. As she kept piling teleported air over and over into the same internal volume of the tank, the air would compressas more air was magically placed into the environment of the tank over and over again til the tank pressure gauge indicated they had about a "full" tank again.)
While most ponies (hell, even humans) wouldn't know to do that, obviously Luna is no dim person, and she's DEFINITELY smart enough to know how gas compression works.
The instant she realized the gas she'd teleported from the other side of that creature's... barrier... and it blew into them like a blast of air from a tornado, she would have known it was compressed.
Once she realized it was breathable, she'd have known she could fill the tank with it.

Isn't that a flower?
(Or a band, if you've ever heard of them, which I had not til now. Still doesn't explain what you meant though.)
When I read that sentence, I was thinking something more along the lines of T.K. Baha from Borderlands.

I'm sorry what?
7239360 But then again, hard to do magic when you're out of energy, and only got a few spells left in you. I think that was a big thing with that part, no?
The leviathan was a Kiaju. It wasn't born, it was built. And that is a special kind of terrifying.
7239582 wait what? you haven't figured out what he meant with "next"?
It was a guess but I assumed that he meant other worlds.
7245966 i am reminded of the endbringers from "Worm" and that makes me shit bricks.
thank fuck they can be killed by conventional means.
however, that means that they are made with a purpose in mind. destroying the badlands? a unlocked gun at the head of minotaur civilization? making passage through the sea impossible? and now starving an entire coast?
someone is trying to put equestrian land in high value.
and thus Mars killed the Venus hunter.
Mars, the God of war killed a sort of Venus trap flower.
the horror! Only vision that brings to mind is tentacle rape. Rarity might like it...
Ok...so what was it?
After all that I think we ought to know.
I'm not sure which of these officially earns the title of "my favorite lines in the story".
So. They just blew up Cthulhu by setting his eldritch farts alight, huh?
7411329
See above.
It seems like Luna and Raegdan are always trying to out-suicide each other.
7416438
To be fair this isn't technically pony cthulu (probably). They referenced cthulu as the octopus Leviathan I think. I sadly don't know Lovecraft well enough to know what this one was (assuming it's even the same theme).
9175591
The octopus leviathan is a Kraken. Norse mythology.
Well Shit... They killed a thing even Alicorns can't handel. If i would be Celestia i would declare anyone thst hurt one of the two that can kill a Leviatan should be executed. No Argument!
