Twilight and Spike lived their childhood in Canterlot Castle under the benevolent eye of Princess Celestia and violent protection of her resident, so called, monster. A monster she returns to to find peace with but also unexpected danger and threats.

I really enjoy reading this. Releases the dopamine just right.
What if it is readgen old group
He's going to chum the waters so to speak isn't he?
I've been waiting ages for this, I cant believe its finally time.
Yay for update
*finishes reading two chapters only to reach a cliff hanger*
y u do dis?
Where's my cliff hanger warning? Are those guys part of Janus? Is Raegdan going to kill them all and outfit his Lunar Guardsmen with high tech guns? Will he torture them and find out the way to go home? Will he go mad with the knowledge? *huddles in a ball in anxiety*

The answer to all your questions is; yes. And no.
I'm sorry.
That's the truth.

Pretty sure Raegdan's going to unleash his inner Liam Neeson very soon.
A long wait for great payout. Im excited for the update hopefully next month <3
Beautiful update worth the wait. I almost..... almost feel sorry for the Janus assholes, Raeden is going to slaughter them once he gets there. If he doesn't get killed first, hopefully he saves Spike.
I doubt he will kill them, They by the looks of it are trained and armed to the teeth, most likely scenario is that he will get in to a fist fight with one that will end up in a tie with both of them hurt like hell but still manage to talk it out,
Best case scenario: One or Two epic fights, Some of those Humans stay with him and join the lunar guard and we get some cool new soldiers to read about and a bit more backstory in to the human world. Oh and everyone lives
Worst case scenario: Epic fight, one or two humans get hurt badly, One of the main cast dies, and the humans leave on a bitter note (This would be boring as hell as most of the story is like this, we really need something new as to not have the whole going in circles problem with Raegdan)
But in both cases a 100% thing is:
-Raegdan gets a new toy (Gun, Armor, Tech)
-Most Ponies will be fearfull of Raegdans race
-Raegdan IS GOING TO GET SHOT (at least once, no way he wont)
PS-Mr Author could you msg me with which of the two scenarios is more likely im just toooo damn interested to just ignore it.

While I've sent you a PM that I am sure answers almost nothing (sorry but I am not sure to which extent you want spoilers) what I want to address here is the issue of "the whole going in circles problem with Raegdan".
There have been comments as to how Raegdan is basically mentally broken, and what he needs is therapy. If something like this to happen to him, what would happen? An extremely long period of him undergoing that therapy with relapses, fall outs, wanting to give up, and glacial progress to the point of seeming almost stagnated unless you compared the very beginning with the current point. Now, I want to ask the question. Compare Raegdan to the very beginning with the current one. Notice small, subtle differences?
I understand that this is very frustrating at points as it looks as if he doesn't progress at all. But the truth is that he is slowly, glacially, changing. We see it with Luna now (a reason for it is that Luna is far braver than Raegdan), but Raegdan refuses to admit or accept change, even as it happens. He is, in fact, hoping to regress of shorts, even consciously trying to. He needs the familiar and he is trying to claim it. Remember how in the date he persisted that others don't matter? Yet in the camp some chapters before he chose to make himself a target while still wounded so whatever he felt at the camp would come for him and not the guards. There is a lot going on his head. He pretends a lot. In the Charybdis chapter we saw a scene of him as a child with his father and you can see how he took some words to heart. It's a big reason of why he seems so arrogant. He pretends to know a lot more than he does. He pretends he doesn't care. He pretends to himself. A big part of him is that Raegdan, deep down, is completely and utterly scared and out of his depth and has been so for a very long time. What looks like circles is a lot like a whirlpool. Sure, it looks like he goes in circles; in the end though he will go down. We do have a couple of more circuits to go yet though.
*Insert Nascar "he's taking a left turn!" joke*

Hopefully before that. I got a surprise for you on the next one. One that hopefully none of you has seen coming.

:)
Holy shit, this is tense. Good job writing it. Can't wait for more.
Some of the people here seem to think that Raegdan can take the soldiers (who are probably Janus) in a fight. I disagree. He may have a lot of experience surviving on his own, but it seems that so do these guys. On top of that, they were actually trained to operate in these situations and have top-notch gear. Raegdan might have a lot of experience, and one hell of a survival instinct, but no actual training. Remember when he almost lost to the minotaur king?
Also, his depth perception is really bad right now.
Oh, and there are ten of them.
What I'm most curious about right now is if the soldiers are immune to magic.
Another interesting thing: why didn't Raegdan feel them come into the world? Either they've been here longer than he has, he hasn't told anyone, or I've forgotten a part of the story that hints at this.

Ragedan's 'daughter' never really died and is actually the female member of the Janus squad currently in Equestria, I have no evidence whatsoever but I'm calling it God damn it.
8916497
Yeah, Reagdan lost hard to King Crucible. The minotaur king said it himself, Raegdan is no threat in a fair fight.
Fair fight.
As for the hint, that was in chapter 41 - Ponyville-day-four-part 2.
8916504
Raegdan's 'daughter' was taken from her world when she was almost seven. Raegdan had her with him for years. She was still almost seven. When she died, she was still almost seven. She would never grow up even if she lived.

Looking forward to the next chapter. I have a feeling this is like the final conflict then the story comes to an end. Please no.

This conflict is not the end. It is the end of the third act. Then comes the fourth and final one. So we still got a bit more to go.

That fantastic news. This story and Aprions Evergreen Heart are two stories i absolutely love. Keep up the good work.
If I may mindlessly dribble head cannon for a moment...
Meh, I am not tooo sure. But I feel like the events of this story have been... manipulated. Not in a contrived way, just in a "Unseen hands" kind of way.
I get the feeling that this is about Raegdan and Luna, but also about what they are? As well as what they decide to do.
My personal baseless theory is that this is some kind of... contest? Bet? Clash of ideologies? Between whatever "Dark force" makes enders and the tree of Harmony. I think they are fighting over the soul? of Raegdan. Why him though...? I mean he is tough but surely...
Mindless head-canon dribbles over.
I also particularly like the tree of harmonies reaction to Raegdan trying to destroy it. It was not even like. "Foolish mortal! I will smite you down for your insolence!" It was more like. "O.k. if its really my time to go let me show the last few things you need to know." Perhaps Raegdans total inability to reconcile those visions was part of the plan, perhaps not.
I did like how it used something that would do just about nothing to someone who is not hounded by their personal demons like Raegdan.
Gave me a real. "This is being smited by a good creature feels like." Its not painful or terrifying (in any conventional way) its like... Being shown what your missing out on. And what your missing out on is being alive.
As someone who's been here for yonks and yonks I have got to say that I've never been more hyp about a fimfic story as I am right now. Kudos my dude.
Yeah, the guards are so not going to like this, it hurts my face from the smile.
Also. Holy fudgeballs, this is really building up!
So used to scrolling down and seeing the option to go to the next chapter, don't now, what do?

All in all, a generally solid solution.
...ok with this story ( I am at interlude 12) and I am hesitant to continue with the story because there is too much 'suck' by 'suck' I mean too much suffering with no hope ... I'm all for a dark and Grimm story but there comes a point where the story is nothing but suffering for the MC and with this story at also incorporates Luna. I like the story I enjoy the story but there's just too much 'suck'... it stops being these beings doing what they have to do and starts being just let them in their suffering ( suicide ).

“Long is the way and hard, that out of Hell leads up to light.”
― John Milton, Paradise Lost
I understand the notion completely; It feels at time as if the characters suffer all the time, as if there is no reward for them at any point. It does. But consider this: what reward could they be given that would be fair and they would appreciate without using 'author powers' to suddenly change their personality and world? Yes, it is dark. Yes, it is going to get darker. And yes, in the end there will be punishment, and loss, and rewards, and hope anew like the rising sun.
In the meantime, if you decide not to let go of the story, I recommend you keep going until chapter 43 and stop there for a while. Chapter 39 is where the Ponyville vacation starts and is basically a couple of weeks of rest and reward for our heroes. Maybe read up a few chapters of The Twilight Years (Raegdan, Twilight, Celestia, and Cadance stories, most of them self-contained, with just humor and fun apart from 1-2 instances). Maybe read a little of something else as well, take a break, and then continue. The story's not going anywhere.
And here we witness the frail cartoonish morality of the prey species falter. Look at how the thing bends and dissolves. First they be "oh no you killed some one once, that I do not know, a long time ago. Better have lengthy moral dilemmas and judge you for something I have no say in" and then they like "oh please sir please send these other living beings to hell for killing some dude I knew".
No idea what they do to prisoners but it will not be nice... Hope they kill the intruders.
