1st hah.
So a few things
1) what is up with leaf stream, one second shes all bad flank next shes getting her flank wupped in a fight.
2) i dont see the issue with what luna did, she took away painful memories and helped keep the mane 6 sane.
Wow. This chapter gives some pretty deep insight into why Luna is the way she is.
Also, is this:
a typo?
8075760 I am unsure as to what you mean by that. Could you please clarify?
EDIT
I see. You do.
Are we finely getting a little tease about Luna and Reagdan true goal and motivations!
Have I mentioned recently how much I love this story? And how one moment you can have me actually angry at Luna for her mind control and then next understanding and feeling sorry for all the pain she'd had to endure and how she has gotten to where she is today
8075371 I can understand why you agree with luna, but the thing that pisses me off about it is she didn't give them a choice. I've never been a fan of taking away free will, I see that as a crime worse than murder
8075850 He loves sowing confusion, doesn't he.

First off, altering someone's mind is an absolutely horrifying thing to do.
Even on a case by case basis, with the "patient's" permission, it is still terrifying and reasons were given why Celestia herself brings down the hammer when someone is found to have been using mind magic. Using mind altering magic is a HEINOUS crime and EVERYONE knows how bad the punishment is.
This quote from the last chapter sums up the issue quite well and is a big reason why Cast Iron, Solid Charge and Eventide are taking the matter so seriously.
They JUST figured out/realized that the Bearers have been affected by mind magic and they know the most likely culprit is Luna. They are now reevaluating EVERY encounter they have ever had with every Bearer. The problem it it's not just that Luna "took away painful memories and helped keep the mane 6 sane." it's a question of how long has it been going on and just how much mucking about has she done with their minds?
If Luna just took away painful memories of recent horrifying events, that could be considered a grossly inappropriate but tender mercy of sorts, but since NO ONE else knew this was done, they are wondering just how much Luna has been mucking with people's minds.
Are the bearers truly friends with a desire to help Luna, or did she MAKE them think/feel that way?
Then they're all thinking, what if my desire/willingness to be a part of the Lunar guard was forced upon me?
Short of "I literally had to do it to save the world and every life on it" no excuse could justify her use of mind magic. Luna should be stripped of all her regal titles and thrown in prison for this, or whatever Celestia's standard punishment is... whichever is harsher.
8076729
Ok, i understand your reasons, but they believed it was the right thing to do. So they can live with the consequences.
1st off a lil harsh. Second how do we know Celestia isnt guilty as well, she could have done tgis to luna when she became nightmare moon, and in truth she is more guilty than any pony, her own prize student is foal napped, and an alien saves her not guards, not Celestia but an alien. She allows solar religious fanatics try to kill her sister, several times, she knows what her guards are capable of. The way i see it if Luna is to be punished so should Celestia. While we are at it
Did we just see Luna get her cutie mark?
8076729 that or a mental hospital, Luna can probably considered certifiably insane
8076877
Wow. You are really trying to stretch the logic to make Luna look less guilty or just make Celestia look worse.
You literally just made a huge jump in accusation about Celestia with mind control with absolutely no evidence. Even more so considering in this story Nightmare Moon was all Luna's fault and Celestia actually tried to help Luna and mitigate the problems that lead to her becoming NMM.
If you haven't been reading this story, Raegdan loves to go off and solve things on his own without even informing Celestia and isn't worried about morality. So saying she didn't save Twilight is a pointless statement.
Lastly, Celestia does not control the beliefs of the her Solar Guards, unless you want her to mind control them which seems to go against what you're arguing, and I don't believe there has been any proof so far about any of the Solar Guards making an attempt on Luna's life yet.
You're basically trying to play the "both sides" argument when one side is squeaky clean.
8077961
Ive actually been following this story from the beginning, and to say im playing both sides is true, im simply pointing out that Celestia could have easily enough mind controlled ponies. There isnt any proof to counter it nor pto prove it.
Proof of attemps on lunas life caused by failure of the solar guard, this to point out how they try to take lunas first line of defense away. #1 the challenge where reagedan would face 3 solar guards was aupposed to be a sparring match just to see where his strengths were against ponies, instead steadfast ordered his troops to do their best to kill reagedan, and yes its implied there. #2 when stead fast openly attacked reagedan in a crowd of civilians and guards alike with those mace balls he could twirl in his magic. Reagedan may have made the first physical move but stead fast made the first physical attack.
Reasons why Celestia is guilty about luna being a victim of her guards. I highly doubt she never heard about even from one or 2 loose lipped guards about what they were up to. Not only that but her sister was either outright ignored or attacked physically or verbally, or denied food and services, by guards and servants, and yes it was mentioned at some point towards the beginning of the story.
In truth luna is the only real princess, a leader leads from the front not from behind. When shit starts to hit the fanluna has picked up a weapon. Celestia just either send the baddly trained royal guard, or she sends the mane 6, a group of untrained civilians to go against enemies that even she and luna failed to kill. Truly it stands to reason Celestia is weak in the regarding punishment of those that deserve it and instead the one time ahe goes all out its to banish her sister. No couldnt see she was hurting, no never decided hey luna let me grab a sword and follow you around for a bit and help you fight monsters. Nope just keeps letting her sister fall firther into depression and hatred. Nightmare moon was both luna and Celestia's fault. Before you point out that Celestia was ruling equestria from the throne, she could have easily popped back in ever few days. In truth all she did while luna protected the country was cater to spoiled assholes and thriw stupid parties. Action speaks louder than words, Celestia took the wrong action.
And to point out how we can prove the solar guard are responsible for the poisoning of lunas food, i doubt any of the regular servants had access to an unscented and flavorless poison, so it stands to reason it was solar guards who did it. Even if it wasnt them directly who put it in the food supplies them self but an agent they hired we know they had their hooves in the attempts of murder of luna.
8075813 I got at least two more planned that are supposed to give snippets of other moments chronologically after to delve deeper into how exactly she got like that.
8075850 Ha, ha!
I don't plan on stopping this anytime soon!
8076268 You may have mentioned it once or twice
As far as hating but understand and pitying them; these two (Raegdan and Luna) have never had their actions portrayed as right or even that they might truly be 100% warranted. The purpose is not to give or beat you with my own opinion on whether they are or not. The purpose is to show and understand such characters, even ones you might perceive as heinous (especially if it is so), and give a little understanding as to how being this kind of person sucks. It's all a part of my own subversion of the dark and edgy trope. the ones that characters like Wolverine and Batman kinda embody, as well as others. Luna and Raegdan are, in their narrow field, able to take down whatever sets itself against them. No monstrosity or force has been able to cower them, not for long. To attain such skills however, and the ability to make decisions that enable them to be like that, what is the price?
Everything. And they would love to be able to ask for their money back.
8076521 It's a bad thing she did, no question about it. The thing is, and what you can understand from here, is that she didn't ask or care about their feelings on the matter as to her they were non-entities. In her mind they were mewling children that would never understand an iota of what she knows, and what's worse they would be judgemental of her every little action because of who she is.
Then she understood that she was wrong. Maybe they don't understand or know as much as she does, but they try. They saw them make bad decisions and stuck with them, even tried to help them through them, and they were all too willing to endanger themselves for each other, them, but strangers as well. She wasn't what she expected, and now she desperately regrets her actions. She is still afraid though, as is Raegdan. Raegdan just hides it way better, but you saw how he broke his facade on this chapter.
8076700 I just like being subtle. Throwing hints. Looking out for your puzzle solving skills. Other excuses.
8077063 Don't you? Don't you really? I've given you all the pieces. All the information you need is right there. This latest chapter and Honest Serenade's last appearance is all you need to get it all together. Everything. It's all in there, why, who, and what.
God, I wish I could see your adorable, confused little faces
8077157 AND the first time she raised the moon.
And she had no idea.
8077438 Years and years of going against monsters on her own, seeing who knows what, doing who knows what, followed by a millenial stay on the moon...
You think?
8077716 Last chapter, Cast Iron realized something was wrong since Rainbow described what happened with Steadfast Ray wrong, aka she said she and the rest of the girls were there. Then, Leaf Stream, most possibly alerted to the fact by Cast Iron, cast her nets. She said that Raegdan's leg broke when it did not and Rainbow Dash agreed. It wasn't hard to figure out who did it since the girls stayed at Luna's tower and immediately left the following morning (as per Luna's instructions).
To be fair, that level of insubordination is not a bad thing. They are basically going, "we're worried you're doing something that will bite you on the flank. If we have to save you from yourself, we will." As for Raegdan and Luna going soft and wishy washy... is it any wonder? They started out being completely cocksure of their success, and all they've been doing is getting their faces smacked on the wall because of their own actions (anything that doesn't have to do with physical confrontations, and their few fields of expertise, they are basically toddlers). They are breaking down, reaching the end of their rope, and despairing on how badly they are doing. Yes, they got their guard, but does it look like they would have if they hadn't had help (and lots of it)?
Don't worry, almost everything will have proper answers by the end. Except a few things, mostly about Raegdan, but that is because not even he knows the answers. If you think you have questions now... wait until the end of this arc. Still got plenty enough to go!
8078214
The first piece of logic is incredibly flimsy. Just because she has the ability to mind control does not mean she has done it. I'm pretty sure you have the ability to murder someone. Just grab a knife and stab them in the heart while they're sleeping. I can't prove you've done it or haven't done it before.
Second, nothing you've provided there is an attempt on Luna's life. They want Raegdan gone. Yes, but considering Raegdan's incredibly violent nature that he's exhibited and the fact that he has openly attacked Celestia, the Solar Guard of course want him gone. However trying to get rid of Raegdan does not equate to attempts on Luna's life.
Next, you're assuming every guard is in on the attempt on Luna and Raegdan assuming the guards are the ones after their lives and it's not just Raegdan and Luna's paranoia. And anyone who IS in on it would not be speaking so loosely about it around Celestia.
Oh, and by the way Shining Armor clearly stated that the reason people have been "ignoring" Luna is actually Luna and Raegdan's fault because of their incredibly amounts of paranoia and behavior driving everyone away.
Every point after that is literally you just regurgitating the fandom's fanon (which is NOT canon and is not part of this story) of "Celestia is bad and the heel and Luna is not as much at fault at this". That's wrong. In this story Luna is the one completely at fault for Nightmare Moon. All the while throwing out accusations at the Solar Guard when nothing has been proven yet regarding them.
Stop trying to turn Luna into some woobie at the expense of Celestia's reputation. She and Raegdan are the ones fucking up. Not Celestia.
8076700
8078247 doesn't just sow confusion. He loves being so cryptic throughout his story that he would definitely give a certain God of Chaos a run for his bits, and that's saying something!
There were times I had to get clarification on the actions the two make, especially when he leaves out what they actually did.
8078492 Now that is just lies and slander. I'm not being cryptic at all. Everything is there, plain for all to see, just as long as you keep in mind that there are skewed perspectives, the two major characters' actions are rarely taken in plain view, there is incomplete knowledge even by the characters involved most thoroughly, and there are a lot of lies, either intentional or unintentional or simply for misdirection's sake or the characters guess, and might guess wrong, or believe the wrong thing or lie to themselves, and you need to read between the lines...
...
Ok, so maybe you have a point.
Maybe.
And no, noone else got MC'ed. If Eventide and Solid Charge had been then Luna would need to do so to everyone since the old crew all knows by now, and Leaf Stream has the (most of the) details as well. She still knows everything ergo so do the rest, and she has mentioned in her narration that she intends to share everything with the old crew. Also, Raegdan cannot be mind controlled, at least not by Luna. Magic immune, remember? Only Cadance's magic can have some effect on him, and she rarely understands what she sees in there means or does.
8079712
Ah, I see. But here's the strange part: he's immune to all magic, but not Cadence's? High resistance maybe, but not completely immune.
I wonder what were to happen if she used every arsenal of her Love magic on Raegdan? We'd be seeing an entirely different man who is completely happy and free of strife and giving out greetings to all the ponies he meet...
...and that would be really creepy.
8078348 Thank fucking Raptor Jesus that somebody isn't an idiot and blindly supporting everything Luna is doing and putting it all on Celestia's shoulders.
8080385 That's why I said "at the end". Get the Guard going until they become self-sufficient, turn it over in command to Celestia, then die.
8078247
arrrg its so frustrating and i love it!! Something definitely needs to start going their way though!
8079873
i don't know about being a cunt and needing to die. ya they keep doing dumb shit that usually ends up worse but ya gotta remember this is an anti-hero story. bad guys are the good guys and good guys are sorta the bad guys. Kinda like the Punisher ya know? So their actions are supposed to be morally dubious/ambiguous and played close to the chest. I mean thats like part of the main conflict, keeping the main 6 and others ignorant to darkness that lies just under a shell of harmony that they've been brought up to believe in. considering they face nightly assassinations and such and NOBODY seems to do anything about it even when it comes to light. But thats kinda the point, sympathy for the devil and what not. While i definitely agree that the decisions they make usually end up making things worse along side with them turning over a new leaf (or at least trying to) and possibly abandoning some nefarious back up plan to overthrow/destroy Equestria if need be...they DO have good reasons for the things they do and to be so untrustworthy...at least in my book. Trust me I pull my hair out at some of the shit they pull too, but i like anti-heros. it WILL be interesting to see how this story ends though considering its still up in the air as to WHAT is even going on! Will there be a happy ending or will it end in tragedy? But the whole conflicting emotions and ethics that are being drawn out of the characters AND readers...well thats how you know its going to be good! As for the guards being the bad guys...i don't know about them being the "bad guys" per say nor did i label them as...but Leaf Stream DID try to kill Raegdan first (and now twice) and Solid Charge WAS a mercenary/rapist (or at least accessory to rape) so it doesn't really seem that anybody can take the moral high ground. I just figured they might be a little more understanding. But once again thats kind of the point...whose really the "good guys" and whose really the "bad guys"? Personally it seems the only character who has their head on straight is Twilight Velvet lol.
I won't pretend to know what's going on, I just know that I like it and hope my confused mind will make sense of this in the coming chapters. Also this interlude was kawaii as fuck, looking forward to the next chapter.
8078247
I didn't say I didn't have an idea, just was hoping to get it confirmed or denied.
So ponies invented quadrotriticale thousand of years ago...before the Russians
8082017 That was what I had too, but it didn't quite explain why he did what he did to her in the palace. That made me wonder if she was involved somehow, but that doesn't fit with anything else. Seems like an odd thing to do for someone who you are trying to protect from reality, even with his twisted mind. I guess it would help with the image of him being the bad guy keeping her from her child, but that just doesn't seem right.
Honestly I think this is my favourite chapter so far. This was so great. And all the feels...
This chapter EXTREMELY reminiscent of the fic Paradise by SlyWit.
Seriously, it's virtually taken straight from the fic. (Not that I actually think it was in any way ripped off, I am just astounded by the similarities.)
I wish we could upvote individual chapters. The whole story is good, but this, this chapter is just so pure and pretty it's on another level.
I love chapters that explore Pre-Modern Equestrian History.
Beautyful and a magnificent origin story part. Very sad to know how mutch she did and sacreficed only to end up where she is today...
