SHIT'S GON GET REAL SON.
Charybdis?! As in the Greek Mythology Charybdis?!
OH SHIT.
Great chapter can't wait for the next.
Oh, yes? My tracking was in most good faith.
Depth charges. Lot of them. Water creatures (or anything for that matter) are not exactly resilient of of explosions right next to them. But even if it is, its insides are not.
Or if all else fails Luna can just boil the water around it.
Flutters will challenge Raegdan? That would be an interestimg fight.
And did Honest Serenade lost her kid to the same guys who got Twilight kidnapped and blames Raegdan for it? Or was the kid one who Raegdan killed, criminal, or innocwnt bystander caught in the crossfire?
You have to stop doing this to me, this is almost as bad as waiting for my HTC Vive preorder to ship...):
If the OCs in this story were voiced, what would they sound like?
7117669 I'm confused... Do you like it or not?
Better call Kratos, that dude can kill anything.
We're gonna need bigger bombs.
Shit just got too real.
7117691 Like a tactical nuke to start with
I think Illidan said it best........
If Charybdis is real, there's a good chance Scylla's there too.
Just ask Celestia to help you morons. Pride is worth nothing compared to the lives of people.
All they got to do is guide her back to her friend Scylla. This is pony world, and pony rules of fried ship still apply
7117992 have you by chance paid attention to the story? celestia is nigh useless at actual monster hunting.
7117961 Or perhaps a Balefire spell.
Fire an ASROC missile down her throat. Problem solved.
Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
7118265 No, she's not. She just hasn't gone on any, that doesn't mean she has zero combat prowess. I'm fairly certain that Celestia would be able to help Luna and Raedgan defeat the leviathan, if only they would ask.
This made me think of the rules of an evil overlord thing.
7118274 Sir this is a full blown leviathan, you need something stronger than balefire. Balefire will just be torn apart by the wind and water whipping about in the whirl pool. I don't know what spell you could use to get rid of the leviathan with out devastating the countryside. A leviathan is nigh unkillable because of it's resistances, if you want to kill it you'll likely take out everything in a multi-kilometer radius... Cheers mate I'm off to somewhere that's not here!
7118753 Gorgon?
Easy, keep away from the coasts. Or, drop a star inside of it.
Sidenote, what an entirely terrifying place their world would be if it's intelligent peoples were dusted.
7117688
Yes, I was meaning that its akin to being blue balled. All these cliff hanger chapter endings I cannot take it. I need more and I need it now.
Funnily enough, I was listening to Hans Zimmer's 'The Kraken' while reading this chapter.
They need to wreck it, NOW, but i'm not sure teleporting or flying back to their tower for explosive ordinance is an option.
7118714 how could Celestia help? I don't think she would participate in direct combat. Maybe get the solar guard to take care of it?
7118714
7119506 ok then think of it this way, rather then stupid pride perhaps luna is trying to cling to what little things she has left? if celestia kills the leviathan, if her or her guards are even seen in the vicinity, celestia gets all the credit for the battle and luna gets more scorn.
7118917 Gorgon?
Find Scylla, make the fight?
Nobody is going to point out that Fluttershy is making a very VERY poor work as a spy?
This chapter is giving me second thoughts about Honest Serenade. It made me think that maybe she blames Raegdan for either 1: He promised her that he would save her foal/filly and failed, 2: He killed one of the foalnappers and the poor bastard turned out to be the bitch's mate, or 3: He accidentally killed her foal/filly
7119619 ...Seriously? You don't know what a gorgon is?
Medusa was a gorgon.
7120844 No I know of Medusa and her sisters, but I don't know why you mentioned gorgons.
7121446 I admit that the Greek mythologies to the Leviathan is one I've never followed, but the thing's got eyes, right? A gorgon's gaze should work.
7121505 most depictions of Charybdis don't have eyes. I fit does they would be similar to a fly's so it could locate the largest amount of seafaring vessels due to the fact that it hunts like a pitcher plant.
7121605 Like I said, I never did look into the Greek leviathan much.
7119571 At this point it's more about the ponies lives than anything else. If Luna actually cared then it doesn't matter if Celestia gets credit or not.
7119877 Nobody would think someone so obvious a spy. Spies at least try to hide it.
Just as I said, before, if you are unable to blow it up, just boil it. Like with microwaves'n stuff. You just need to aim for one point on the monster and microwaves boil the water at that point- cue massive burn damage not even natural armor will protect against. First the tail to cut movement, then whatever you can.
Though there is nothing that cannot be solved by liberal usage of high explosives. Down the throat-> poof->internal bleeding-> duel with it to keep its blood flowing-> wait till it bleeds to death -> get booed on because of damages and because people together are idiots.
7121690 and then history repeats itself, those who ignore history are dommed to repeat it and celestia is doing just that already.
7123698 And so what? The only option then is to fight it themselves, which they know is a losing battle. So then they die, and everyone else at the port town and probably more ponies elsewhere. At least the other way innocent people don't die, Luna and Raedgan live, and Raedgan could probably stop Luna from falling into depression, even though I fail to see how that would happen in the first place. Luna gets worse treatment from those who try to kill her, rather than those who ignore her. I'm pretty sure she also said she doesn't enjoy it when people "cheer her name", so if Celestia got the credit, it would be no different than if Luna were to, since she would just feel like they were toying with her in the first place.
7123853 she was scared peope praising her was a joke she enevr said she didn't like it. your trying to read the situation with a simple two dimensional look, all that does is cut you off from the cocnenquences of luna going to celestia to clean up this mess.
Why did AJ just praise Jehovah/Yahweh?
The last four Hebrew letters in the Hebrew word translated to “Hallelujah” are literally the name of god. Pronunciation is a big subject that's been argued no end by historians and people in general (though no definitive answer has ever been proven, not that it's anything more than semantics anyway), thus the whole "some people think the Hebrew God's name is pronounced 'Jehovah' and others think 'Yahweh' is the proper pronunciation" thing.
Either way though, she literally just praised a God who is only known of by one being on their entire planet in the whole of the planet's history... so again, I say:
"Wut"?
7123926
Implying that she dislikes people cheering at her. I won't deny the fact that she's afraid of course, since the two are directly related, but my point still stands. If Luna and Raedgan somehow managed to beat the Leviathan without any help from Celestia, then Luna would still dislike the praise she receives, think it all just a lie. I'm not blind to the consequences of Luna asking Celestia for help, I simply outweigh them to the consequences of Luna not asking Celestia for help.
Here's how I see it.
Luna asks Celestia for help: Better chance at beating Leviathan. Celestia gets praised and Luna left in shadows (like usual), so not much changes
Luna doesn't ask Celestia for help: Lower chance of beating Leviathan. Probable death of Raedgan and Luna. Off-chance they do beat Leviathan, Luna and Raedgan get praise, but Luna still fears that the praise is a lie. Nothing changes.
So either Luna and Raedgan (as well as a lot of ponies) die, or Celestia gets credit for saving the ponies (while she'll surely try to convince them that it wasn't all her), the ponies live, and Luna and Raedgan are back at square one. Which is a lot better than them dying.
7124001 no luna gets ridiculed by the solar and royal guards any potential standing she had is gone and she starts of at square minus one. the soalr guard start petitioning the luanr guard shut down due to incompetence and the gentry has legal grounds for removing any powers from luna they couldn't before. when stakes are this high you enevr end up back at square one.
7124020 I'll admit I didn't see the part about ridiculing, but they get ridiculed regardless, although I'll admit not as bad as it could be in this case. It's still not as bad as the assassination attempts they have to live through either.
On what legal grounds? They can remove powers from Luna for asking for aide? What the fuck kind of law is that?
"Sorry I asked for help to save ponies."
"Too bad we're taking all your political power away, as well as disbanding your 'incompetent' guard."
Never mind the fact that they know Luna and Raedgan wouldn't possibly beat a Leviathan on their own, so the guard is hardly 'incompetent'
7119877
Or four:
She was in on (perhaps even in charge of) the kidnapping ring, and he took her business of selling little fillies as sex/breeding slaves from her.
Ponies wouldn't be likely to believe that the same mare who made such a wonderful orphanage would also be running a foal sex trafficking ring on the words of a massive, scary "monster" like Raegdan.
7124709
Actually I don't think Serenade was in charge of the ring. Now that I think about it, does anyone recall the Prologue? The old mare that insulted and threatened Twilight when she was still a filly had a pink mane and a pale yellow coat. That sounds an awful lot like she could be Serenade's mother, or maybe even a sister or a lover. And I think that SHE was in charge of the ring. Maybe Raegdan did kill her and Serenade grew bitter against him for that.
I liked this. It's insightful. Memory is for the living, not the dead. The best service Luna can do them it to remember and learn from her mistakes.
“How dare you? How dare you! At this time! In this place! They did the job they didn't have to do, and they died doing it, and you can't give them anything. Do you understand? They fought for those who'd been abandoned, they fought for one another, and they were betrayed. Men like them always are. What good would a statue be? It'd just inspire new fools to believe they're going to be heroes. They wouldn't want that. Just let them be. Forever.” -- Sam Vimes, from Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels. Probably my favourite thing he ever wrote. You could say a lot about how much this applies to both Luna and her victims here.
I really sympathize. If I ever meet God, I'm going to bitch the guy out so hard for not doing a better job. Seriously. It's the main reason I'm not religious; it would just be too much like thanking someone for only pissing on your legs a little.
See, Rarity is a shipper. Totally told you guys. Also, Luna's size still keeps fluctuating, but it was pretty adorable.
That's specifically a word from Christian liturgy. I don't think the ponies would have that.
Depth charges, maybe? There has to be something you can feed it that's sufficiently lethal.
Giant whirlpool monster that can eat ships whole and is making its way up the coast, feeding.
To top it off, it's nearing Equestria's greatest port city, Baltimare.
HOW THE HELL DOES NO ONE IN CANTERLOT KNOW ABOUT THIS?!?!?!
This is the kind of thing that you can't keep quiet. Someone on the coast spots it, and it gets reported to the authorities and verified in short order. Then it gets reported to Canterlot and presumably the military. Even with a gag order on government personnel, gossip about this is gonna get out and every civilian in Baltimare and Canterlot is gonna know pretty quick.
The ONLY people that knew about this thing heading up the coast towards a major city was the last remaining Thestral caravan? They only reason they seem to know about it is because they truly understood what Luna did for Equestria (seeking out and destroying monsters that would indiscriminately kill ponies) and took it upon themselves to carry on her duties to the best of their ability when she was banished.
This is at least partially why it's been mentioned that reports of monster activity are lower than expected. The Thestrals, a group of civilians, have been tackling every monster problem they could.
The Royal and Solar guard need to get their shit together. This is professional incompetence of the highest order... The kind that costs people their lives.
7125032
Really? The vast majority of our problems are our own doing. We really don't have much to complain about. Quite frankly, I'm surprised humanity has turned out so well considering all the c**p we've pulled off over our history.
7129328 Ah, but at least we can claim those problems and fix them without any god's help. We made the problem, it is our mandate and our duty to rectify it without exterior aid.
And as for how we've turned out, well, we're by no means perfect, but I don't see upright, sapient lions, tigers, or bears, do I? It is our species right and destiny to rule, to take what is ours and to make what isn't ours ours.
