Oh. So THAT'S how that whole debacle happened.
I like these interludes with just these two, it's like they're a combo of best friends, lovers, and family rolled into one.
They're mates, it's great.
you are right twilight, monsters go out and kill kidnapping/sextrafficking ponies, they also use their own blood, after losing copious amounts of it in an arena, to save your friend just because they can. they also connect with others that have similar life experience and keep them from committing suicide. why cant you see that they cant tell celestia this because she is so naive and fairly inept.
Regicide? Maybe. Golems? Making wards against infitrators? So-an-so. Hope they made use of that severed finger. I dunno, somehow grind a small portion to dust inbed it into diamond, Crystal tipped weapons that bypass magic.
So that is how Raegdan lost his finger.
I suppose that "punishment" makes sense; they both don't have a lot of reasons to live, so suffering pain for something is practically moot at that point, but inflicting harm on those close to you would still hurt very much.
Although, Amputation of a finger seems a little unnecessary; a light stabbing/ cutting or even a red-hot iron would work and without the loss of limb. But that was then so there's no real going back, not unless they combine human medicine with alicorn magic to reattach it.
Good chapter though, Carry on!
....and then they... made dinner?
Cmon raegdan x luna ship
I have a prediction: every time anyone in this story considers telling Celestia anything, they dismiss the idea entirely because, "she wouldn't be able to do anything." I bet that if they just told her what was going on it would solve the problem, or least get them well on their way to solving it. It's been brought up and dismissed too many times to just be a coincidence anymore, and it has dramatic irony: the solution is to get two extremely suspicious people to trust someone.
6814689 Because unfortunately Twilight was TOO sheltered.
Bravo.
I burst out laughing when Raegdan grabbed the wyvern.
Aw, that's adorable.
Well if it ain't Bonnie and Clyde.
You don't shock a flatline!
holy shit
Dear god make him place shiping tag
6814703 6814791 Finger's gone for good and Raegdan, even if they had thought of using it like that at this early point, would not allow it to be used that way. It had to be a complete and total loss of a piece of him with no kind of advantage the way he thinks about it. Considering he is only missing one means that Luna hasn't tried something similar again.
6815070 Luna has been shown to be able to cast more than one spell in unison, even different ones, and the mane six have been around her too often. She has already put something of a loop in the way they are thinking that whenever something comes up about them that Celestia might need to know they go "maybe not" and then dismiss it. Not mind control but a little pathway their thoughts follow about that issue.
6816435 I know shocking a flatline is a Hollywood myth but from what I got if you get electrocuted, say from a lightning strike or other electric source, you might go into sudden cardiac arrest where the heart stops. In that case they do use a defibrillator. That's because even if the heart stops it's not because there is zero electrical activity in it but because there is at the wrong places and the heart just kinda seizures with no heartbeat. The hope is that the current passing over will "overwrite" the issue and reset the electrolytes into working properly. Raegdan didn't flatline (zero electrical activity), his heart just stopped. Luna did indeed only have a few minutes to save him.(p.s. I hope I understood all that crap right and didn't buck that up)
6816466 Hmm, I'm not sure that there should be. There could have been something if that crap hadn't happened but the way things are now they are not thinking of each other like that. Consciously at least. There is some weird version of flirting between them and they get very, very touchy when alone but in relationship terms they think of each other as just friends. Can there be romance when both are completely clueless that they are doing it?
6816917 I wasn't talking about that at all, actually, although it makes sense. I was predicting that, based on my experience as a writer, the solution is not plots, or clever thinking, or tricking the enemy into exposing themselves, but simply swallowing their pride and asking for help. Trust, or lack thereof, is both Raegdan and Luna's biggest flaw, and having them overcome that flaw, despite everything they've experienced that justifies it, would make for an extremely satisfying conclusion, based on how the story is built.
6816917
If the heart stops it is known as asystole ("flatline"). A common cause is hypovolemia (blood loss) which is what would be expected in this situation.
Defibrillators are not used when the heart is stopped. They are used when the heart is working but malfunctioning. If the heart is stopped, there is no electrical activity. An electrical shock will also not cause the heart to start beating again because the underlying cause has not been addressed.
Yes, this bit is messed up, sorry. You've done more research than most though.
Small shocks can cause ventricular fibrillation (V-Fib) which a defibrillator is used. Large shocks cause fatal cell damage due to electrical burns.
This bit is wrong.
In V-Fib, yes. This isn't V-Fib.
Heart muscle polarization, not electrolytes!
That's the definition of flat lining.
6817512 My understanding was that when he got hit he would go into sudden cardiac arrest and he would need to be zapped back. From my reading I got that electrocution can cause Ventricular fibrillation on which I found:
What I was not sure about was: Would Luna be able to hear a heartbeat? Since the text says the heart fibrillates (which I understand as it kind of quivers and shakes) instead of beating, I went with no.
Now, if I am correct in my assumptions I made based on this little research through the internet, you are CORRECT in saying he wouldn't get back from being shocked since Luna states that his heart stopped. Luna however is nowhere near an expert in healing, which I think is made plain (her experience goes as far as patching up, casting a few spells to keep healthy, and walking it off), so since she hears no heartbeat she believes the heart stopped. If his heart HAD stopped she would have continued blasting him till he was cooked well done. They both got mighty lucky there. If I DID get it right, this is a case of the character in story assuming things and telling them as he believes they are, which might be wrong, but work for all the wrong reasons.
Or maybe the heartbeat can still be heard while in Ventricular fibrillation and I really messed up making it all meaningless Doesn't help that I screw up when I explain things by using wrong terms for wrong things like I say that his heart stopped and what I meant was it stopped working properly.
Please let me know if this makes more sense and is correct.
Edit: And I am an idiot. You were talking about V-fib and I missed it somehow. So, the question becomes can he have gone into V-fib from the lightning (I considered it not very powerful at all, being sloppy, fast runework), would his heartbeat be audible, and would Luna's treatment have a chance to actually work?
Is it me? or thoes this song fits well as Raegdan's theme? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEtJ83c8LWg (either that or i watched way too many overlord lol)

A human would need a stethoscope but yes. It would be rapid, weak, and irregular.
How I would fix this:
Luna would have to hear a heartbeat and pick up on the fact is it irregular. If it was fast and weak but regular that's tachycardia which you would not shock!
Remove the deep cut or make it bleed. It wouldn't be spurting out, but it would still bleed heavily (like cutting a vein). The only way it wouldn't bleed is if there's no blood left! It would also start spurting as soon as his heart starts working properly if it's an artery... may just be best to make it a vein, or remove this bit.
The knife thing is ridiculous. Luna would almost certainly slice something vital and he'd have a massive wound in his chest and very quickly bleed to death. The energy would also be very low since there's much less resistance; it's right by the heart. Scrap everything about this bit.
If the shock is enough to cook flesh, it will cook the heart and kill it. No one comes back from that. You don't use an electric chair if someone's got heart problems. You don't get burns from a defibrillator!
V-Fib if untreated would quickly lead to asystole and become essentially untreatable except with CPR, with an almost non existent chance of saving the patient. This is with human doctors in hospitals, let alone a pony who knows almost nothing about human medicine and physiology. Luna is probably going to need to react far more quickly. A few minutes of hesitation means Raegdan is finished.
Shouldn't that knife embedded into Raegdan's chest now be resistant to magic? Did Luna just make some lightning indirectly?
And I also read it somewhere that defibrillators actually just stop the heart from beating erratically, the restarting should be done with chest compressions. (I have no medical experience, so I might be veeery wrong here)
Also: Luna can coilgun! Oh the masses of arrows she can now unleash. It will block out the sun!
Another idea: Is there some kind of spell to detect magical traps? Like some sonar reflecting off of magical constructs, or something that detects traces of magic.
6816917
Again, shouldn't that be detectable, or at least noticed during a (magical) medical check-up for example? It might come back later and bite poor Luna in the plot.
6818913 Alright. All fixable and doesn't actually change anything important. Thanks for the clarification! I will leave the chapter as is for now but edit it down the line to be correctly done.
6818967 Yeah, it's like a mark in there that shouldn't be. A simple medical exam that just looks for physical issues shouldn't detect it but one even a little bit deeper should be able to notice something's wrong. There are other ways to spot it too but Luna and Raegdan are banking on the hope they won't.
6818950
Yeah, pretty much like a Detect Magic DnD spell. Things that store magic in greater volume than the ambient magic around them are detectable if Luna looks for them. Depending on how much difference in magic is there the less or more noticeable, though there's no way to tell what kind of spell is it until you take a much more thorough, and closer, look. Raegdan of course just lets her tell him where the potential trap is and then just walks in front of it, holding a shield (a thick wooden table surface) to make sure she doesn't set it off. It's also why they didn't bother with magic to hide their crap, relying on a simple hidden door or just a hole under a stone. If someone looked for them it would be like an alarm crying out "look here!".

LUNA X RAEGDAN NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWW. One of the first character shipping on this site that I openly and religiously support. By the way, how do you pronounce Raegdan's name? In my head, I've been pronouncing it has Reg-dan.
Lastly, your artwork is just adding to the flavor to this story! I absolutely love them.
6819778 Well, there's a lot more to go on yet. Things may still evolve further and you might get your wish.
As for Raegdan's name the official (as far as I know) pronunciation of the word is
so you are pretty close to it.
I'm glad you like the artwork. Most of it is quick, shoddy work, except for the Wyvern one. That one took me like four hours or more.
6817780 Lethal weapon duels did end with good reason in grievous wounds and deaths, of course they did. But then again, this is peace and pancakes Equestria, with Celestia's very own Solar Guard going at each other and potential recruits with real weapons. The result of the tournament as far as it was depicted: two pegasi initiates heavily wounded; one of those deprived of his ability to fly for the rest of his life, one random guard with possible broken ribs, one earth pony initiate dead, one unicorn initiate comatose. While perfectly acceptable in medieval terms, it is hard to believe that any of this should be possible under Celestia's direct supervision as a symbol of peace, friendship and harmony as depicted virtually everywhere so far.
Silly ponies, only a human can kill a monster.
6830181 I agree that Celestia would not accept this and she was being very hypocritical with Raegdan's victory when she clearly witnessed her guards mauling each other to death not five minutes ago and never chewed them out on their actions.
6845178 got it in one!
Don't worry Luna, he was only mostly dead. Mostly dead we can work with.
Ahhhhh... now we know how that happened.
Nice
7550660 true completely dead only another one of my storys can solve
(they get reborn)
Reading this story, one song comes to mind.
Celestia waited for a thousand years for someone to cheapshot her sister. Celestia is high incompetence is impressive.

Avenged Sevenfold. Hell yeah bro
