Oh man when 3 chapters came out at once in my feed, I thought the ride was over!
I have a feeling you meant rich or poor.
stared instead?
So I woke up today and was like, 'Oh, 3 new updates in my favorites, bout time it feels like everypony is playing WoW. *clicks on updates and notices its all for this story. proceeds to cry tears of joy.*
I liked Night Lily... y u do dis.
Its like you have no regard for my feelings or expectations and do as you please...
...
...
Continue on as you were, you glorious bastard. *cries softly*
Yes, Celestia. Give in to your anger! Let it be your strength and your path to the Dark Side will be complete!
Wait...what?
Apparently diplomacy grows rusty in a world where the mare who keeps everyone alive is of a happy and forgiving nature. There are diseases that conduct themselves with better social etiquette.
I say that it was fairly obvious that if Luna was to be killed by some"one" then it would be Celestia that would go batshit crazy with eternal day.
It is truly cathartic to see Celestia finally expressing an anger that we the readers have been feeling towards the antagonists of the story.
Excellent work, and very nice to receive 3 chapters at the same time! Although, do know that we do not at all mind getting the chapters piecemeal instead of in bundles like this.
Love the chapter's. But was there supposed to be a info on a drug bust I'm missing
Celestia just explanied to them the key principle in life... you dont mess with sunbutt for her fury can melt them.
Fun to see celestia expressing herself more
Having been confronted with such pain in Manehattan, I could easily see Pinkie Pie forming a charity out of Ponyville to combat economic inequality and the problems it brings. She has always struck me as a strong character and somepony determined to bring joy and laughter to everyone. I can easily imagine her trying to rally Ponyville to help those in need and getting stuff done, with help from the girls of course. She could become the source of a social revolution in Equestria.
I am really looking forward to how the characters develop with what happened back there.
... How? There were more words there when I last seen this.
Beg for it. Beg.
The pure stupidity that those two just showcased is mind-boggling. I mean it what part of any universe did they think telling one sister that they would have a party if the other one died, an that they might just make sure the deed is done themselves.
Clearly they were fed lead paint chips and thrown at a wall when they were born.
I mean... *exasperated sigh* I need better words to describe this level of stupid. This isn't advanced stupid, this is two idiots working on their Phd in terrible life choices.
Well, guess that answers my question on discord.
I don't think I'd want to be anywhere near the epicenter of the combined wrath of Ragden and Celestia. He just might let her in on some tips to the possibilities of weaponizing the nuclear fusion that fuels her sun.
7711940 damn you killed off one of my favorite characters. George RR Martin would be so proud of you.
7717951 Their motives are pretty clear from the snippets we've been given, even from the small portion i read of the chapter between Raegdan and Luna. They want to get rid of the threat of the Elements, and would even resort to outright murdering the element bearers if they thought they'd so much as hinted at using the elements. They don't have remorse for their actions, despite the facades that they put on. Hell, the only reason that Luna is even considering staying in Manehattan is because she made her killing of the leviathan very public with very little casualties and so she's finally receiving praise for doing something right for once and so they can enact revenge on the drug dealers that, really, aren't too blame for Tar's or Lily's deaths. They've done nothing but the leviathan incident to even try to endear themselves to the populace, using the same terror methods over and over to instead keep fear as their only ally.
Honestly, Celestia is far too existing of their behaviour as well, but when you've relied on somebody for so long/been apart from your family for so long, you become blinded to their wrongdoings. It's beyond frustrating to see her constantly making excuses for and pardoning them, because it just reinforces their ideas that what they're doing is okay. As of now, i really want Raegdan to die by the end of this, just so that Luna realizes the true cost of their combined actions. If she doesn't accept it, then she was never going to be saved no matter what, because they've both admitted to knowing that their behaviour is inexcusable.
Ayyyy respect for Celestia on this one.
If Luna dies, I expect Celestia to go Helios.
"Feel the power, OF THE SUN!"
I like the idea. But not the way it is executed. At least not the first half
With no light, the world would freeze.
Without the dark, it shall burn.
"and the tragedy of their death is that they are often forgotten."
7715921 Oh no, there's quite a bit left, even after cutting off parts that I wanted to do. We're at... half?
7716005 The poison? Not their work. The moment they see that Pinkie is poisoned? They think "let her die and it all becomes easier." Notice that it took some time until Raegdan even tried to help or get in the way of doing it even worse. He let Luna make the call there. 7650847 got it quite right there.
7716109 Thank you! I shall.
7716234 Darth Celestus
7716267 Well, the point of King Crucible was that he didn't try diplomacy at all, he was entirely honest with Celestia about what he thought and believed. Think of him as a laid it all bare character. There will be more of him later on anyway. Garand basically hid behind him.
7716639 Those three were really all part of the same to make better sense of what is going on. Other times I need to write more of a chapter to get a better feel of what's happening or simply what you see as two chapters were really two before I halved them. Message received though.
7717028 I have had to make cuts. I've reached 400k words and I'm still halfway. Some scenes or plotlines, which basically didn't serve the story at all, have been cut off otherwise I'm never ending this one. Night Lilly's didn't give just her life in service of the plot, but her character advancement too.
7717663 A universe where Celestia ruled alone. When they're certain that Celestia will never do anything too much, why not be harsh and try to push for what you want with no diplomacy at all? What is she going to do? Threaten to burn you alive?
Truth of the matter is that while Celestia does a great job, she needs to be tempered or else you see crap like this. That's where Luna was supposed to fit in.
7718048 7717951 You should give them at least a little credit for the drug dealers thing. It was never done as a way of taking down who they saw at fault, but as making up for ignoring Twilight's plea, and to get publicity so they could redirected that attention to Night Lilly's death. No one says it also wasn't a good excuse to beat somebody.
But does this make up for them? Not in the least. It's a drop contesting against an ocean. The mind altering is NOT forgotten either. On the contrary, trust me, this will prove to have been a very bad thing to do.
The thing is that they have lived a certain way for more time that you can imagine. Change is slow, but as you can see there was a little inkling of one here, perhaps the only real one so far. Sometimes, when you talk about others you tend to reveal more about yourself.
As for Celestia, if you read the prequel snippet stories in The Twilight Years, you might get an idea of why she excuses him like that. To her, he is family. You can see the dichotomy in both Raegdan and Luna in this story even. How they act when they feel safe or at ease, and how they switch to harsher views the instant things look to get rougher. When it is someone you love, how often don't people excuse the worst excesses by saying "they're not like this all the time"?
Luna and Raegdan are, for want of a better example, evil characters trying to stand on the side of good. It doesn't turn to be as cool as it sounds though, does it?
7719660 No, no, that was Twilight. She was referring to Raegdan's previous "daughter" and it got even him by surprise. It was an attack aimed directly at his feels and hit for critical damage.
Sorry for the delay in responding to all you beautiful people, but the thing is that I've come down with a dreadful ear infection and I'm only now feeling well enough (meaning: not screaming bloody murder) to respond with some coherence. It's Sunday after midnight and I've slept about 4-5 hours since Thursday. Thinking is exceedingly hard and I think I might have had a hallucination or two. Also, that means that the next chapter will be delayed a bit since I just lost my weekend to sobbing instead of writing. I'm hoping to get better soon enough so I can go back to writing.
7719839
7720191 I kinda forgot about her, compounded by the fact I never really expected Twilight to talk about a human she'd never met like family. Ah the perils of Swiss Cheeze memory.
You've written Celestia so well in both of your stories.
Beautiful Celestia characterization without a doubt but I feel she was a little too blatant with that last line. I was expecting her to be more like "it would be a pity if the light that nourishes your lands were oh so that much more ... blazing."
Or something like that. Just my opinion though.
7720270 Thank you. What can I say other than I try?
7720363 I thought for a minute if that was true as well. But consider; They just threatened her only family by blood, the sister she has been waiting for one thousand years to get back, and hasn't really, not yet, and expressed their desire to see her dead. Celestia is furious. She wouldn't try to be discreet. At this point, when you're so angry, you want to see them quake. At least that's what I thought. Honestly, a point could be made for both ways, and in the end I ended up liking her being completely straightforward for once best.
Interesting fun fact: I was actually thinking something VERY close to your own line at first, almost identical. Threatening their own lands with a bit more... sunshine.
7717829 Oh. Well, thanks, I guess... By the way, completely unrelated question, which others characters do you like?
7720413
The best threat is one of burning to death
But I definitely see your point on that, heck I would be absolutely livid as well! With such emotions raging like that it makes sense for Celestia to go with blunt force like that!
How are those two bafoons still standing.
Oh shit Celestia can go Super Nova. Kinda hot when you think about it. Pun intended.
Ok so i kinda feel keltic music would be what the thestrals would play at a funeral for Lilly, something with bagpipes defiantly.
Now i kinda hope Regaden ( think i spelt his name wrong ) gets turned into a pony a thestral alicorn to be precise think about it then he and luna have a filly they name Lilly.
OMG OMG OMFG, again implications only hit me once I climb into bed and refuse to wait.
I suppose I could make a joke about how the minotaur king has giant balls, but that's both sexist and I'd rather not think about how Bravery and Stupidity seem to be 2 sides of the same coin.
I can't be the only one who thought "Solar guard, formed to take down rogue alicorns, THEY MUST BE THE ONES TRYING TO KILL LUNA!!!" But this chapter? This was unexpected. Sure there were the griffins, but I just assumed that since most everything else failed, they hired out.
Honestly, this revelation may kill my enjoyment of the story. I have NEVER liked wholesale war fics with Equestria, what with Celestia or other Alicorns being required to keep the heavens turning. Toss in a side note that normal physics will assert themselves after the alicorns die, or that you have a magic ritual to take over, ANYTHING to reinstate my disbelief, to let me believe that no the antagonists don't want to die. The sheer stupidity of it all snaps me out of the story.*
I just cannot wrap my head around these two Kings telling Celestia, to her face, "Hey yeah, we wanna do you a solid and kil your sister before she tries to kill you again." At this point I earnestly hope Celestia calms down, asks them if they were serious, and when they say yes, turn around and tell Luna and Raegdan "Have fun!" I don't remember anything about the dragons in this story, but I assume the changelings are involved somehow, or will be shortly.
It just....how? Is there a word for "Beyond suicidal"? I think we need one. Just...
I doubt Luna revealing that "There was no Nightmare, just me trying to commit Suicide by Goddess" would change the minds of such dimmwitted zealots.
*I don't mean this as an insult or threat or "YOU MUST CHANGE THIS NAO!" Just trying to explain a pet peeve of mine.
7721052 No need to worry about that, they are not that stupid either. When King Crucible said:
He meant exactly that. He knows and understands that if Celestia dies then he would have no other option than bow his head and accept Nightmare Moon as the new ruler of Equestria. It is part of the reason why they fear Nightmare Moon so much, despite them having armies. If Celestia dies or is somehow out of reach it's game over for them and victory for Nightmare Moon. She's got them all by the short and curlies at this point.
7721201 It seems so many problems would just go away if Luna was just completely honest with everyone. Wait, no, they would just assume she is lying or hiding something else...
7721803 Time and space no longer holds meaning for any of them! Time shenanigans are about to ensue!
Seriously though, thank you for that. The idea that the characters manage to seem alive enough... I can't think of any better compliments.
7723614 New Headcanon: The most badass pony in Ponyville? Cheerilee.
It's the ponies in the educational department you don't wanna mess with. Celestia's true power doesn't come from being Princess, but from being an instructor/mentor. It qualified her to learn what real power is.
Finally Celestia shows some balls. Though I do expect that there will be political repercussions to this... hmm....
The King and the Envoy were lucky Reagdan wasn't there.

7744766 Did she ask for those lenses?
7745320
Eh? i don't get it.
7745862 her eyes look like my lenses. Was a joke.
Well I finally caught up. This is certainly the darkest story I've yet to read on this site, and I've been enjoying it immensely. Many thank and kudos to the author.
Really sad about Night Lilly though... She was my favourite of the thestrals. I can't help but wish it was one of the others, particularly after the potato fries :(
And with that final scene, did Celestia blind them, or simply hurt their eyes? I hope she blinded them, much more bad-ass.
I wonder what would happen if for one day Celestia and Luna switched courts. And maybe do so at random times so the nobles would have to deal with Luna or else they would have to go to the night court for Celestia. It could lead to a lot of interesting situations and get Luna's name out there while at the same time giving Luna a lesson in politics.
7774803
Explosions. Punctuated by punches.
This version of Luna won't abide what she considers fools, as seen in chapter 12. Remember the noble who wanted to have taxation relaxed on his class rather than the "low born" ponies? Luna kept finding him and breaking his leg over and over. She simply has different ideas on dealing with some situations than Celestia. Her name would get out there, but not the way she'd want to . And if somepony came and asked something simple, but she considered asinine, good luck finding her again. She'd be out of there in seconds.
Different temperaments, what can ya do?
7777309
Yeah, I can see that.
It's kind of amusing to see some of these characters learning the same lessons early cavemen learned rather quickly. Oh, to be a fly on the wall in some of these scenes just so i can see their faces first hand.
7716109 started as in jumped. They were spooked.
7747385 power threat show a hint of power to make them know cross that line and there kingdom will burn in the flames of the sun
But it will not exist for you. Instead, it will be a biting chill that not even the dead find comfort in.
7720941
*vomits ever so slightly*
7747385
I agree and I think that's the point of them being the one selected narratively. It's the ones you never actually expect to die that die unexpectedly and hammer home that in theory anyone could be lost
8676180
which are you vomiting to?
