the wankstain formerly known as Chromosome

Humans... humans are such a bizarre race. Capable of the greatest benevolence and the worst atrocities. And yet, they're so very predictable. For you see, while societies may die, and nations may crumble, one thing will remain constant: the desire to survive.

I should know. I was there when everything fell.

yay a depression fix!
EDIT: Not depressing... HiE... by SS&E? What the hell is going on here!?

Oh well, I still like it!

Those fucking implications. Those fucking implications.

I thought he wouldn't give in. I was oh so very wrong.

Can't we ever have a happy story?

... I don't know what's going on.

And I love it.

Anno Domini...year of the master...Very nice title indeed

Holy sweet mother of... That was awesome. If this is one of the reasons we haven't had a Background Pony update, I'm perfectly okay with this. For this was an excellent story. And it's finished, you say? Well, that's okay. This was excellent. Well done

Oh... my! This is... exquisite. And way too true. And I can't wait for more.

I also very much like the style of the writing here.

Why does the computer use Celsius for temperature, but Curies for radiation? That measurement isn't SI and its use is strongly discouraged.

Holy mother of needs a sequel now.

I've come to expect great things from SS&E, but this is downright impressive.

Take my internets, take all of them.

How can I favourite and like more than once?

Funny how I was listening to Rise Against's "Hero of War" when I finished reading that.

Gosh, Skirts. You are one lonely motherbucker.

This is genius and creative and horrendously sad. I loved and hated every word. Equestria as a distantly-post-apocalyptic Earth is a fascinating idea. I've been waiting to see you write for Discord, and I was far from disappointed.

I hesitate to say this, because it's not entirely true, but I wish I could get a glimpse of your imagination. How does it come up with this stuff? And how does it describe it so vividly? So horribly...?

This is my favorite "Human" oneshot, and I doubt it will ever be topped.

EDIT: Eeererrughghgh.... I feel awful. You floored me with this, Chromosome. You quite literally floored me.

That's pretty interesting powered armor, I'm glad it wasn't actually a mech. Bipedal mechs are... ugh.

Anyway, what was that explosion? A nuclear bomb or the reactor?

I hope this has a possibility for a happy ending.
One can always hope.

A few cockups with bad word choices, but other than that this is depressingly interesting for a war-fic involving Discord. I think I shall follow it.

Wow. As sick as I am of humanity being portrayed as being war machines and nothing greater, this was written exceptionally well. And the implications of that last sentence ...

Well, you never dissapoint SS&E, but I'd just love a happy story out of you sometime. All these depressing fics ...

EDIT: and now that the LOEG has been revealed and we've all been made a fool off, I redirect all my praise to Chromosome.

:moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache: 5/5 very nice.

That, sir, would seem to be the question of the day... :twilightoops:

A story about last pony in Equestria, a story about invisible unicorn that no one remember and lives on its own, another story about a lone pony in Tartarus, and now a story about the last human being.

I think there is some sort of pattern here. Not that I mind, they're all awesome and a good way to spend hours upon hours to read.

Also for the sake of off-topicy talk, this story is awesome too.

I've always wondered what exactly happened before Celestia and Luna. It's always seemed so interesting.

Now let us watch as this goes down into the legends of this site.

This was really good, I was skeptical at first, but damn...

IN B4 FEATURED 2!!! This was an amazing piece! I hope we can all look foward to a sequel, or series sequel!

You forgot the depressing effects of immortality.

But it's all good; they're all awesome.

same reaction.

That is some delicious Discord right there.
Where would you place this (if at all) in the canon timeline?

SS&E doesn't know how to write a happy story.

you really like sending me into the dark, dank hole that is humanity's corruption, don't you? I mean, the last pony was great, but this can be amazing. And what do you think about contradicting your own story time-lines from the last pony?

That was almost expected, but still downright terrifying.

Really? Something this awesome is a one shot SS&E???
Of course I am still waiting for you to return to EoP, so far be it from me to try and prod you towards making more of this...but if you could somehow do both... (or, I suppose three if ya count background pony).
As always, love yo shit!

Shit...I think I know what he's gonna do next.

Bring them humanity’s greatest creation...

...Bring them war.

That is not true. Our greatest creation is not destruction. We are not that paradoxal.
Discord is wrong. I am not vain in knowing what our greatest creation is.
I be damn if I let some fake unreal broke god tell me who I am!

Good story - poor moral.

That was brilliant. I wonder how humanity's second chance went, and how it faded and made room for ponies...

Also, Celestia will soon have a new garden statue :trollestia:

That's the point. For Discord, mankind's greatest creation is war. After all, he is the spirit of chaos, and war cause a whole crapton of chaos.

I don't think the word happy is in SS&E's dictionary.

The Crusaders, you guys.

966081 You missed the point. Well said, 966128. When the story ends, we feel afraid. Or we feel gross, or worried, or angry--anything but happy. Anything but moral. The point of the story is that, if we're not careful and conscious about them, human tendencies toward violence and selfish survival can be chaotically devastating.

I believe that's the point. We know Discord is wrong. You, as the reader, are supposed to think, "No, Hayden, don't listen to him!"

Discord is the god of chaos, and he achieves his goals by manipulation and deceit. This is just a story of someone who fell for it. I think SS&E wanted you to take away that Discord is wrong about humanity, and if you think differently, that this could be the end result.

Or, I could be wrong, and SS&E is just one pessimistic motherbucker. :rainbowderp:

Because Discord.

Well, there's still room for him to change his mind, right?

oh wait SS&E, nevermind, everybody dies

I agree - the implication is so well done that I actually can't honestly wish for a continuation.

...damn. That's all I have to say.
Those ponies are probably screwed unless they can hit the war machine with the Elements of Harmony. And if Hayden's any competent he'll kill one of them before that happens.
Good story.

I operate under the assumption that SS&E knows exactly what he's doing.

And that I'll have to hang on every word, every step of the way.

965474 I always find it amusing how everyone assumes immortality would be depressing. Have you ever ACTUALLY KNOWN OF ANYONE IMMORTAL?

When you do, find out what they think, then come back and tell me what you've discovered. I do believe you're in for quite a shock!

You see, immortals, true immortals, don't have the toils and foibles of a mortal mind to deal with. Perception becomes totally altered simply by the knowledge that you cannot die. No one on earth knows that incomprehensible sensation, and thus humans perceive only what they cannot possess.

It is, simply put, the ultimate extension of the 'fox and grapes' metaphor.
