Nicely done for the first chapter. It will be interesting to see exactly how this series will interweave with The Chase. I almost see Larch (mental image of the colt as an adult is huge and lanky with a grave-deep voice) being icked up by Sunset Shimmer in the future. I doubt it'll actually happen, but t'would be fun.
interesting, very much so.
throughout the show we can determine three parimary abilities of earth ponies. making life flourish, and even manipulating growth it seems. great physical strength, some so strong they can break rock but even ponies like cheerilee can break down buildings. and the third is sensory abilities. and even without these supernatural skills they are generally intelligent and resourceful.

actually kinda reminds me of this character that i borrowed, just couldn't resist using her. a changeling queen named Myxine. she and her children have the unnerving ability to take on the form of the dead, seemingly channeling the souls and feeding on the love a pony has for those they lost. largely the harm comes from someone becoming obsessed with this, and the little ticks the creator of myxine has for changelings in general.
with my design i kinda remove the drained till hollow part and simply have it be them channeling the dead and feeding on reciprocated love between the living and the dead.

I had a startlingly similar idea for one of the changelings in The Chase.

one concept is that more or less the changeling surrender control of their body. albeit the drones it happens more naturally than it should.
been tinkering with a plot idea of my villain group bribing myxine and her changeligns so they can use the knowledge of those long dead.
In my sleepy state I read the title as "The Black Cloak Fillies" and imagined some sort of MIB Cutie Mark Crusader setup.
