Riptide, a glider sea pony, is tasked to to travel to the mainland and find Princess Celestia on behalf of the sea ponies, who fear their possible extinction. Once on land, he'll have to travel the tiny land of Equestria, make his way to Canterlot, (just a few hours from the coast, or so he's been told) and deal with the local wildlife, terrifying pony gobbling monsters like possums and hedgehogs. (Which Riptide imagines to be some kind of porcine-plant based horror.)
Selected because Celestia sent a message requesting a pony that needs to make friends, Riptide suffers from crippling social anxiety disorder. He carries with him the hope of the sea ponies.

I don't quite see how that is relevant. the sea ponies could just move inland (like Riptide is being told to do) if salt water is harmful to the kelpies. I don't think it is here, but I could be wrong.

That would only work if he got his fey powers from the plane of fire, which would be incredibly difficult being that Fire and Water tend to not like each other. Rising Star already had an affinity for fire magic, which made it easier, but a Sea Pony would have a rough go of it. Besides, steam is a type of water, and pegasi can manipulate water in vapour form anyway. Water manipulation may already carry over into steam control.
A much more likely scenario would be acquiring power from an aquatic section of Tartarus via some oceanic fey, perhaps a siren or something similar. Do selkies exist in the Chase-verse?

hey its always been my head cannon that humans use to be in Equestria, but that's because G1 and G4 are the same setting just thousands of years apart. But also the idea that the Bermuda Triangle was has a portal is not a strange idea in a setting that establishes portals to other realms exist all over.

5793823 Assuming this takes place in the Chase-verse (which I think it does. maybe?) I have no problems with a human in Equestria. After all, we have the mirror portals in the canon universe. So it's not unheard of, couple that with a reference to the bermuda triangle and it's kinda clever.

Also, Coral Ponies and Kelpies both are the 'Earth Ponies' of the waterworld. The latter just freshwater, the other one sea water.
