After the events of Hard Reset Twilight's life and mental well being are slowly returning to normal. Her recovery is cut short, though, when a letter arrives informing her that the time loop spell she cast is causing severe damage to space and time itself. When Twilight had settled into her home/workplace at the Golden Oaks Library, she noticed something absolutely dreadful—almost no one came in for a book. As a matter of fact, ponies only seemed to enter the tree when there was an event or some mandatory meeting.

The only ponies she could remember actually borrowing a book were her five close friends and Cheerilee. Not to say that Cheerilee wasn't a friend, but she was legally required to do so as a teacher and thus didn't count.

But after Pinkie inadvertently plants a certain seed in her head, Twilight thinks she knows exactly what will get these ponies' attention.

A party.

But the Princess of Magic isn't going to let a little thing like being in the wrong universe ruin her day. She has a schedule - a checklist! - and it matches up with this Dusk Shine's perfectly. Apart from the names and the genders, everything seems to be a match, and Ponyville has seen much weirder things since she moved here.

Being stallions or mares shouldn't make her friends that different. What could possibly go wrong?

Twilight writes to Princess Celestia for an explanation of an insidious issue Shining Armor told her about... but she ends up finding a secret that will change her life forever.
