Anyways, I like the pacing of this, it really helps to keep me interested, and I applaud you for that. I've never read "Celestia's something for gifted unicorns" although I think I've heard of it. Is this going to be kind of a sequel? Eh, I guess it doesn't matter. Great way to start off this story! I can't help but wonder what kind of antics Vinyl will get into.

This is the type of story I was hoping to see when Season 3 ended. Taking what the show gave us, and running with it in interesting ways. I even suggested a story prompt similar to this on my blog and you don't even know how happy I am to see it!
Interesting character dynamics we'll be seeing here. Ones I haven't seen before (admittedly, I haven't read everything, but it's new to me) so I'm highly invested in where this is going.
The characters are well handled, the prose is clean and the presentation is superb. Definitely keeping track of this!

That is always the case -- by the time it leaves the front page of new stories it is usually too late to be featured or nearly so. Before they changed the popular stories box, it could push a borderline story over or save one that almost fell prematurely.

-Prologue Review-
One thing I can say for certain after reading this prologue. I have to stop getting so attached to the characters and their plights in the story. It gets me too riled up easily.
For the review, I'm going to start off with how you portrayed Twilight just to get the more noticeable things out of the way. I like how you had her follow right after the trickster footsteps that her mentor made when teaching her lessons. It shows just how much she follows after Celestia (in spite of such negative criticism and responses to her demands). Such tests from mentor to hopeful always create a rather tense mood for me, and seeing characters break down after failing is like a hammer to the heart. I loved how you wrote out how the test played out, as it built on that tension quite naturally.
I'm going to add this to my favorites and hope to see more as it comes. Thanks!

I suppose the other three wouldn't have made cameo appearances if they weren't going to be in the school. Fleur showed some magical ability in The Sweetie Chronicles, not that this is the same Fleur of course, but it's something to point at and say "see, it's eccentric, but the idea's not completely outrageous." It certainly is a motley crew, and non-traditional students as well, since none of them are fillies. And that's assuming that they remain the only four students... of course, if I'd looked at the tags before writing this, it would have been even more obvious.
