She's looking at you. Yes you. And she is judging you with her eyes. There is no escape.

When Sumac Apple started this day, he had but one Lemon. Life has plans to pluralise that.

An entry in the Weedverse.

greatest sort of science, reckless and unknown

The best kind of science!

Another great piece <3, and poor moondancer xD

As a former dairy farmer's kid, I can testify that the description of this foalbirth is, if anything, slightly less goopy and gory than the real thing. Very good work here.

Ouch, that one hit me right in the feels.

Ya know man, this story was great, and wholesome, and just a nice story that made me smile. I am certain that was all a ruse for that god damn pun.

It was the greatest sort of science, reckless and unknown, the sort of science Sumac adored.

“I sensed a panic,” Rainbow Dash said with perfect nonchalant coolness. “Is it just me, or is Lemon leaking?”

Sumac didn’t know the circumstances, but he knew the story. Everypony knew the story. During the battle, Rainbow Dash had been left with the agonising choice to save Applejack or save Fluttershy—and the rainbow-maned mare was seen saving both. Faced with an impossible choice, Rainbow Dash had shattered time and space to do the improbable.

“Oh, I wouldn’t say that,” Moondancer muttered while she clutched her injured foreleg to her barrel. “I’m pretty sure that for a moment there, I became your husband, and never again shall we be parted.”

So many good quotes. I've two questions though:

He saw something bluish protruding from his mother’s hindquarters

One slimy leg poked free from the slimy satchel of birth, but was so bloody and covered in goo that Sumac couldn’t see what colour it was.

I'm guessing that the bluish thing was something biological related to the birthing process?

“Okay,” the nurse said in a soft whisper, “never seen this before. This is new.”

Is this part of a greater mystery, the answers to which will be revealed in the fullness of time, or did I just miss something?

Either way, I am impressed by your ability to organically merge an intense personal epiphany with a slice-of-life, mother-son bonding story. Kudos, Kudzu, kudos.

Lemon Poppyseed stopped screaming to look at her brother.

Well, it was heavy. But it was good.

A good thing Sumac is given to worry, I think. Really, it's the small moments like this that really drive home just how outstanding Sumac Apple and those who surround him really are, especially when compared to the population at large. There's a clear reason why they are the ones that will see Equestria into a new era. They're the only ones who can: They are the only ones in Equestria — maybe in the world — who consistently have their shit together.

It's no wonder Princess Celestia was so important for basic day-to-day operations for so long; without her, the whole country would have long ago devolved in Thunder Dome.

Thank you Kudzuhaiku.

This brings back good memories of watching both my daughters being born and seeing them for the first time.

But we don't need another hero....

So she has an overdevelop horn and under developed (though relatively healthy) body?

Guessing she will be Sumac's mothers' focus when he gets older and is able to take control of Lulamoon Hallow. I am assuming by the point of House of the Rising Sunflower that his grandmother is no longer counted among the living and Trixie is preoccupied with other things. Other things could very well be little Poppyseed since she seems like she will be another "special" foal.

Oh my. Tarnish studs for Trixie and it doesn't work out, I'm seeing? That's going to be a landmine when we get there.

8757512
Goddamnit, you beat me to it...

This awesome story just for a lemon joke Kudzu? Darn it. :facehoof:

I think it's more about the time he saved Trixie. And the infection was the least of what she went trough, I'm also guessing that the infertility is more related to said suffering.

8757962
No. Events of Venenum Iocus.

Rainbow had a strange reaction to Little Lemon's birth. I think a part of her might have been seeing her own age and her lack of a lovelife and child. Perhaps this birth may start having her question herself a little and future decisions going forward

8758193 8758107

Nnngh. Poor memory strikes again.

Huh, did Sumac's alicorn senses know that Lemon was about to pop?

And if Lemon felt that level of discomfort with Little Lemon's horn, then, poor, poor Cadance.

Hey, fun (?) horse fact for anyone who doesn't know, but newborn foals come with this thing called the deciduous hoof capsule, or eponychium. Other names include golden slippers and fairy fingers.
There's some bloody/gory bits here because, well, newborn foal, but this is an extreme example:
assets.horsenation.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Screen-Shot-2016-03-21-at-4.52.56-PM.png
Really gross-looking, so don't click that if you're squeamish!
It's basically a spongy padding that covers the hoof, because equines are born with hard hooves unlike all the other ungulates. This means they need a little extra something to stop the foal kicking out and rupturing the mare's birth canal. The eponychium sort of peels off/is worn down as the foal starts to move around.

I love you dude but you need to focuse this is rediculess.

We want to see a end, not a never ending path of unfinished content.
At this rate we the fans will need to finish your work as you die from old age.

“When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons, what the hell am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man who’s gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I’m gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!”

A writer writes what they need to. We readers are just guests along for the ride.

I like how you posted this in a finished story. :trollestia:

One-shots like this one and having a plethora of projects is what allows me to never be burned out. I always have something I can muster up the words for, and not have to force them.

8758562
Darn you beat me to it, oh well this is what I get for being away from FIM majority of the day lol

Imagine the Talk later.

"When a mommy and a mommy and a mommy love each other very much, they ask Princess Celestia for a foal!"

how much thought went into the birthing bench?

Ok I'm confused I keep seeing references to the ice orcs attack and to the Manehattan in incident but what books are these in and if they're in none : please write them already I want to know what happens

8759351
DON'T TAKE THAT LEMON

BURN IT

Oh God, Cave Johnson is going to feature primarily in the comments, I know it.

Well, down the rabbit hole we go.

8759647
So Princess Celestia is the stork? :trollestia::derpytongue2::pinkiecrazy:

Can't click the upvote on your comment any harder. Damn it Knighty!:raritydespair:

Go give Pebble a teenage pregnancy, I won’t mind.

Best parenting advice in the world! :facehoof:

Well, let's see. Long, almost gangly in places, big wings, white...

Perhaps Gosling isn't romancing the bird he thinks he is!

Moral of the story: when it comes to experimental pregnancies that represent new frontiers in the world of science and magic, it's best to expect the unexpected.

D'awww Sumac, that was just so sweet! <3

There are many many quotable things in this story’s but alas,

Has to be my favorite.
