Yeah to new update. Oh and that was a nice twist there, with the purple glow I thought it was twilight. Keep up the good work.

Hmm... the nigh-similarity between him and Discord, but clear distinctions. Him looking like Max. Him claiming them to be brothers like another surprise antagonist from that one anime. Who is the one character that would perfectly fit that description that has been showcased, albeit briefly?... Max's draconequus form.

“Wait…” I said slowly, memories of that particular day drifting up from the depths of my mind. The hesitation I had felt just before grabbing the Crusaders and Spike and hightailing it out of there. It had only lasted for a second, but the sensation had been nearly overpowering.

I'd hate to be Havoc right now. He's basically sabotaging himself with every action he does. He could've laid low so Max wouldn't suspect anything, but he didn't. He could've made things more hospitable for Max so he wouldn't resist as much, but he didn't. And now we've got him putting in his own Fixer Sue to make sure Max doesn't act out of line when that counteractively causes Max to act out.
It would appear that he has no real desire to ensure that Max stays put so he can get it on with a bookish horse girl. I'd say that he's really just doing this just to mess with him.

The thing loomed above me, far taller than its alicorn counterpart had been. Its bark was the same color as the alicorn’s fur, and faceted as well. “Yes, her!” Harmony chirped happily, nodding her head. With me still pressed against her chest, she settled back down on her stomach, tucking her legs beneath her like a cat. “Though only a crack, she opened the way for me to begin to lay the, hmmm… foundation I needed for the humans of Equestria. It was very minute, but with her help, I was able to begin to, hmmm… educate the poor things.”

I'm vaguely reminded of the Quagsire from PMD: Gates to Infinity from her "hmmm's".

Eventually, I found my voice again. “Does that mean that Twilight and I are only together because of you?”

“No,” she answered, her smile widening. “You did that all by yourselves. I had no involvement over what you two feel.”

“But, at one point I was having misgivings about staying in Equestria,” I pushed. “Back when Celestia said she could have sent me home. Did you have anything to do with me choosing to stay?”

“No, little one. I don’t have the power to influence free will,” Harmony said softly. “I can provide a nudge here or there, but in the end, it’s entirely up to you to decide what will happen.”

“And if I had decided to return home?”

“Then I would have used my powers to make sure you arrived back on your old world safe and sound,” she answered. “However, I didn’t need to do that, as you decided to stay here, with Twilight.”

“So… you didn’t…”

“No, I promise you. You are with Twilight because you chose to be… and that is truly magnificent.”

I have to say, I'm impressed. You handled an element of your work with swiftness and maturity. Well done.

Good chapter! "Asylum" gives me more than my fill of ambiguous reality in an insane asylum. Good to see this one got wrapped up quickly.

Plus we got a ton of exposition, confirmation of what we suspected was happening (Equestrian humans getting more intelligent) and the surprise twist that some of the weird things happening are NOT Discord's fault!

And back to the waking world next chapter, I assume. Can't wait!

8265529 Max's Draconaquis form, or whatever it was, wouldn't be one for playing by the so-called "rules" in his own "game" within the nightmare realm in which he had trapped Max, because HE is a cheater, so why should Max abide by those same "rules". Sure, it's not honorable, but sometimes in order to survive dangerous, and deadly scenarios, even ones within your own mind, you have to do what you can, and what you need to do in order to survive. In those instances, whether something is honorable, or morally correct goes right out the window. Max can feel lousy about whether he did a dishonorable, or immoral thing later once he wakes up, and speaks to Twilight about it, gaining her insight on the situation. I'm sure she would have some, since she's an egghead, and even if she doesn't off the top of her head, she'll read one of the many books in her library, or even go to the Canterlot Archives to try to find an answer. 8266480 It's not about "honorableness" or "morally right", it's about being "completely and utterly idiotic" or being "halfway decent". If this were a poker game, Havoc would've shown his entire hand and call out the cards he drew on every single occasion, all while verbally listing his strategy in real time.
I don't really care if Max "cheated", it's just that "Chaosbringers", it seems, are fundamentally stupid. If Havoc isn't even going to try to win the game (morally, or immorally), why should he give a fuck if Max "cheats"?

I'm so glad the whole psychiatric hospital thing wasn't stretched longer. It was so confusing and oof nowhere that it made it difficult to read. But the swift wrap up and explanation made it all better and connected it marvelously to the rest of the story.
