I wonder why he didn't tell Twilight? I don't think she would have had any objection.
4046622 plausible deniability. now she is not involved if it somehow gets back to them.
4046622 plausible deniability
... If I praise this, will I get shouted down?
Because I really want to. Praise it, I mean.
High-ranked noble punished for sake of 1 deprived non-citizen human? Its unauthentic.
4046673
If I was in their position I would be more than willing to make him miserable over a lack of a curtsy, much less theft and piggish-ness. Seriously. No one has good reason to like him in most fics.

Fanservice.
I bet Celestia was debating whether it was wise to show Blueblood his intelligence but w/e
Many Lolz were had this day.

Except that she is a civilian. She doesn't know what that exactly means. She's never been in a situation that requires that level of attention to detail. For example, if a civilian is warned that bombs might be in garbage bags, pop cans and other litter, I doubt the civilian would drive down a street covered in the stuff. A soldier on the other hand will look at the same street, with the same warning and ask, "Which piece of litter has the bomb?" and start looking for it because he's been ordered to go down that specific street. A civilian mindset is almost completely different than a military one, so it's up to the military to double and triple check everything, and still expect there to be miscommunications.
One mission does not make you experienced. While I was in, you were a "boot" (slang for rookie) until after your first deployment was over, usually (I know more than one case where that didn't even help). She was not trained for this, nor is it anywhere near her field of study/employment. So for her to make these kinds of mistakes should be expect, and it's the officer's job to expect them.
Because she was never informed of what the Guard knows and doesn't know. She thought they knew about the multiple warehouses, hence the way she asked "which warehouse?". Really, this is the Guard shooting itself in the foot. Several mistakes were made in handling her and the information she possesses. Most of it is not her fault, but the Lieutenant's.
She made an assumption that, since Flame was captured, it wasn't a high-priority concern. It would normally be a correct assumption, but once he got free, then it became that high of a concern, in which she did the right thing and started asking questions about what the team did and didn't know.
Again, that would be the Guard's fault for not reading her into the intel they have. They never informed her of what they did and didn't know. Since something like that should be easily able to be gathered by normal methods of intelligence gathering, even I would have assumed that the Guard would know that Flame dislikes Pegasi.
This was funny. The story could use a bit more lighthearted moments, it's been pretty darn dark lately and the audience needs a breather once in a while.
Huh, was half expecting blue blood to make road apples.

Its more likely that he is being punished because he did it to the 'property' of a higher ranking noble, which is our Twilicorn. Atleast thats what the report will say.
Short but fun.... The powdered punishment is excellent
Y'know, Max can be a huge dick sometimes.
4046745 Agreed. All 273,790 words of the story shall now be changed to 'Max'.
4047133 ...maaaaaaaaaaybe
nuuuuuu changelings are violent monsters in your universe! NOOOOO!!!!!!!
4047174 One changeling does not a species make...
Nicely done court scene.
4047096
How so? He seemed okay to me. I didn't spot anything wrong.
4047174
More accurately, one or more changelings are violent monsters. Also keep in mind that the changeling in question may have been starving at the time, due to increased anti-changeling measures, and that it was defending its food source.
Perhaps breaking his paradigm might have been sufficient, but now he has the opportunity to use his newfound shame..,
Keep going! ;)
4047189
In retrospect it does seem surprising the changeling would choose the human as a food source and not a more complacent pony. As shown, should the human get loose, it would go bezerk and try to rip it's head off... which, kinda happened.
The other more unsettling thing was the fact it was a breeder. I've never seen such a type in any other fic as it was almost always the queen that did all the laying-- although one or two fics spun that around so the per-cataclysm changeling society was more or less like ponies, just underground, with families and trips to the glowing-fungal park.
4047198 ...
He just had Avera sprinkle itching powder over pretty much everything of Blueblood's, including his "toys". Yeah, Blue deserves something bad, but that?
4047284 Its a changeling,But its also a facehugger
Itching poweder in the sheets eh?
4046430 Yeah, but to ponies....that's goddamn Ahnold Schwarzenegger! "Are you Twilight Spahkle?" *BLAM!*
4047341 Magnificent. Absolutely magnificent.
Also: Celestia's got something on her mind...probably going to ask Max why he traumatized Blueblood like that. I don't feel sorry for Blueballs (couldn't have happened to a nicer pony).
Max is best pony. I hope he gets to speak normally in future chapters. If not...oh, well....the author controls the characters.
4047291
Maybe you don't mind but I know I would certainly not enjoy a twit, yes, Blueblood is a twit, bending me over and having his way with my body (I like ponies but I don't like stallions that way). In a less civilized society, it might be just him with a horn inhibitor and me with a baseball bat locked in a room till we sort it out to my satisfaction.
But this is ponies.
So while the authorities do their thing with the legal punishments, we go prank him. And it seems there's a long line of other victims, starting with the maid, that was to get back at Blueblood as well.
4046622 Plus, it'd ruin the surprise.
Aaaah, i got my Daily dose of awsome after Reading this, thank you.
4046805
You.
I like you.
Thank you for attempting to break down the military mindset and explain it to a civilian. Based on what you've said an my extremely limited personal experience in the military (currently waiting to be transferred to my first active command), it's pretty safe to assume that either you've personally served in the ground forces at some point or are close to someone who has. I've noticed that not many people really get what changes about a person when they become acclimated to this way of life (I still don't, truly), so it's refreshing to see somebody try and put it into words.
Again, thank you, and have a great day.
4047189
You made my day bra!
4047626
I'm ex-US Army (was injured during training and medically discharged, so never got to my first active unit, but was in the reserve for ~2.5 years) and I grew up in a US Navy (primarily) family. I've got a foot in both worlds, with enough understanding of each to at least try and translate one to the other (usually military to civilian). After all, it's a rare day when you run into a civilian that can understand a military mindset and why soldiers are willing to do the things they are asked to.
Best piece of advice I can give is to play the role of a sponge (as in learn all that you can, as fast as you can) when working with your NCOs (both as enlisted and officer, the smart officer listens and learns from his Non-Coms while still maintaining command) and use the government-declared heresy of "common sense". You'd be surprised at how many problems those two things can solve/avoid.
Also, follow the sage advice offered in this webcomic. It'll save your boot hide from a lot of grief.
Good luck, brother, and keep your head down. I've had friends deploy (a few not come back), and it can get nasty out there real quick and without warning. Also, remember that you've got people behind the lines ready to give you a shoulder to lean on and an ear to listen if you need it.
Interlude: The Judgement of Blueblood is best chapter. Looking forward to more.
Keep up the good work. Deus tecum.
I hope they put some inching powder on his toilet paper. seriously.
I knew a guy who wiped his butt with poison ivy one time while camping. Yea its as bad as it sounds.
4047686
Thanks for the advice. Most of the guys I've stumbled upon on the internet say about the same stuff, regardless of branch, so it's safe to say that it's a solid idea to build my first deployment around. I'm first-gen military, so my family can't really give my any sort of advice in this stuff beyond the obvious things, and the support I've been finding from those that have been out there is much appreciated.
Also, if you couldn't tell by the username, I'm a Navy guy (was really hyped up about that when I first enlisted ) so my gut civilian reaction to you saying things can get nasty is "How? I'm set to deploy on a cruiser. Who's going to mess with that?" ... And then I had to smash my face on the desk and remind myself that cruisers do drug and pirate busts. Not to mention incidents like the USS Cole. Still getting used to the real meaning behind "always ready" it seems. Hopefully I can nip that in the butt before I get to the ship...
Anyway, thank you yet again for your advice, and consider yourself followed. Maybe I can extort some more out of you later.
4047865
It takes a while, but you do get used to it. I've been out for a little over 2 years now, and I still have a lot of habits the Army drilled into me. Of which none of the habits are "bad" per say, but more of an annoyance. For instance, I still stand at attention, at ease and parade rest when the circumstance calls for it, and I always seem to wake up at around 0500H (even if I went to sleep at 0400H). Once in, always in.
Though, I hope you're ready for crossing the equator for the first time. My father gave me stories about the stuff the veteran sailors do to the rookies and... Well, they still give me nightmares...
Poor bd , you should have joined the army.
Oh, and one last piece of advice, squiddie. Be sure to give al of your orders some basic thought. For instance, always remember to have your ID-Ten-T form on your person and to give some poor schmuck mail-buoy watch.
Ha ha itching powder in the sheets. I'm 'itching' to see how it will go.
4047969
I'm one of the few here who hasn't gone back to standing like your average Joe-Shmo quite yet. I walk into an office the people in charge are like "You can relax you know, this isn't Boot- Camp." Funny thing is my 'relaxed' stance seems to be just a bit off from proper attention now, (arms slightly bent, thumbs in pockets) so I get some funny looks here and there when I tell them I naturally stand like that now. Luckily it seems my sleeping scheduled hasn't followed the trend, though I'll wake up at the drop of a hat now. Rather annoying when you've got four noisy roommates.
Ah, "Shell-backing." I've heard the stories,.. And thankfully won't have to experience it. It's illegal now, though I'm pretty sure some ships still have some kind of "tradition" to take its place... Here's to hoping it doesn't leave scars!
Oh, that form? I love that thing, one of my favorite things to do is tell the new guys here that we need some centerline to clean the overheads with. One kid was wandering around for an hour asking different people where to get some of the stuff.
Lol i laghed so hard when avera said that the made gave her ten bits when she was cot.
I'm not good with spelling.
4048089
(Spell-checked by me )
Lol, I laughed so hard when Avera said that the maid gave her ten bits when she was caught.
4048088
I'm still at the "You could measure an exact 45 degree angle at my boots" at attention stance, everywhere I walk, I'm all but marching (crisp, measured steps and curled fingers), I carry everything in my left hand, when I "relax" the only difference between that an "at ease" stance is that my hands rest on my tailbone instead of the small of my back. No matter what I do, I automatically assume those stances and movements
That and I also arrive at least an hour ahead of any scheduled appointment (in my unit, if you were early by thirty minutes, you were punished as if you were fifteen minutes late ).
Still, I could've picked up worse habits, I suppose
And yes, "shell-backing" still exists. NavCom just took all of the "fun" out of it. It can no longer be degrading or harmful What are we, warriors or mice? If you can't take a hit, you shouldn't be in the military. Political correct bull, ruining the military and what it means to be a warrior.
:)
Hilarious...
That's all that needs to be said.
4048523
I blame Boot-Camp decay. From what I hear they're allowing even more contact than ever before with your families and the outside world in general. Could just be rumors, but some divs may be even allowing freaking cellphones during holiday routine! I don't know about you, but I got about four calls, one to say I got there, two to set up getting my family there for graduation, and one after the final test to say that my grad date was holding and they could indeed come up. That was it. Only other thing we could do was send mail back home, and you know how slow that can be in the military.
That having been said, I don't know if I'd be stubborn enough to get through the boot you did three or four years ago.
4049006
Yeah, two and a half years of AROTC and college is so hard
Still, I honestly did want to go to Basic, but when I contracted as a Cadet, I wasn't allowed. I wasn't too happy but orders are orders, and thus began my first ever experience with the Green Weenie.
As for the watering-down of Basic training, it's to be expected with the wimps that are being raised in the current America. Political Correctness is going to kill the American Warrior, and you can already see it happening. Just look at the double standard for the physical fitness tests (wow, I must be a misogynist, because I believe that if a woman can't perform at the level of men, then they shouldn't be in combat).
Anyway, I think we're going a little off topic and are spamming Max there with messages. We can take this to PM if you want to continue.
4047378
No, not best PONY, HUMAN!!!!!
sorry
