But while the Royal Sisters have gone down in history as some of the greatest ponies Equestria has ever known, another was neglected. Forgotten. But what was Celestia to do? Alicorn or not, Luna was still just a child. Celestia was only one pony, and she was all Luna had. She had no choice but to focus on her sister during that turbulent time.

Even if it meant abandoning Opaline Arcana.

We walk down our long roads of life, but what of the roads not taken? Twilight and Applejack are carried along a different path, where their fates were bound in new ways. Fresh sorrows and avoided crisis gives friendship's flower a new shape.

This story will make an alternative universe, but will start grounded in the world we know. Have you read my other works? I love canon. I will respect canon, but we are also changing a core fact, and its effects will ripple outward. Our beloved ponies will be changed, as they must. The stream of fate carries them on tides we never witnessed before.

This was the "Usurper Chrysalis" story in FOME's Imposing Sovereigns Contest.

When Sonata Dusk tried to return to her home after the Battle Of The Bands, she ended up in the wrong version of Equestria. However, while she didn't find her home, she found somepony willing to help her.

Ever since then, Sonata has been grateful for Dusk Shine's help. And slowly, her feelings for the prince who gave her so much have become deeper and more meaningful than she could ever have imagined. Thus, when a special day for couples to express their love for each other comes around, she resolves to finally declare her feelings for him.

The answer he gives her, however, may surprise her.
