I like it. It's better reason than for the Evilz we get so much of.
Same. I mostly enjoyed Season 9 (!), but I absolutely hated the fact that Sombra of all characters got reduced to your typical mustache-twirling villain. The voice didn't help matters either.
But I digress. I think you did a great job here, and I'd take this version of Sombra over the canon one any day of the week. He's undoubtably a villain, but you can kind of understand his motives, even if his methods are to be frowned upon. I like villains like that. I don't mind your average evil baddies, like the Legion of Doom, but I do like to see the other kind too.
All in all, nice job.

Because its "bad writing" if every single character, include the villains, doesn't have a deep, detailed backstory that justifies everything they do. Therefore 'teh evilz' should never be used in writing. /sarcasm
As for the story itself, it tries so hard.
Wow. That was really well done.
I can see twilight, in her post rulership state reflecting on this and deciding he was right, to an extent. Ponies need some struggle to progress as a collective.
I can see her slowly becoming a more and more strict ruler as time passes on. Maybe after some time, she brings sombra back to life and uses him as an advisor to help forge a better equestria with kindness and strife. Friendship hrough adversity, peace through struggle.
I want a sequel on this, fantastic job.

I agree; this is unqiue take on his character.
Cool idea, and it would have maybe worked at season 3 but by now I can say a lot of what Sombra’s getting at doesn’t really work for equestria, since they do know strife and hardship, we just don’t see much cod that’s not what the show is about.
I do agree that Celestia has stilted the growth of equestria, not making them weak but making them closed off. It’s one of the main reason I think it was time for her to retired and let Twilight lead. To lead into a new age of expansion by integrating equestria’s new allies

Twilight is a prime example of the type of coddled personality that infuriates me. You did well to shine that light upon her in this story. What's more, you pointed out how the pony culture is a frail thing since Celestia's rule has allowed them to themselves into a culture of overgrown children.
There's even evidence that ponies have for over generations interfered with other species in the franchise. So I do hope you decide to expand more upon this story.
I really like this. It wasn't what I expected. In the end Twilight actually agreed with him! Sequel 100% required.
