Twilight is stewing in discontentment, but an ominous letter with no clear sender offers the promise of something thrilling waiting for her at Reichenbuck falls. She knows it's too sketchy to go alone... but something risky might just be what the newly minted princess needs to feel in control of her life again.
What she finds when she arrives will test her patience and compassion. Trixie has always been a minor nuisance, and if it's just her and Twilight in the middle of nowhere, there's nopony she could hurt, is there?

Set sometime in the middle of season 5. Severe Twixie. Contains attempted suicide and self-image issues, but has a happy ending.

What happens when a pregnant Trixie shows up at the Golden Oaks Library during a storm? Twilight ending up as an unwilling caretaker of the showmare and her unborn child is what. What happens after that is all chaos.

Trixie has always invested herself in appearing as cool as possible. To all the other students at Canterlot High, she only ever shows them her absolute best, and she hides all of the nerdy things she'd otherwise be ashamed of.

When Twilight Sparkle catches her eye, Trixie just can't help but invite the nerdy girl over for a bit of flirting. But what happens when your crush discovers your horrible secret? When she finds out that you're not nearly as cool as you pretend to be? Trixie is about to find out, and what happens will change her life.

As a new resident of Ponyville, Twilight is still feeling her way around her friendships. The slower-paced life is difficult to adjust to, with nopony she feels comfortable with talking about her Cutie Mark talent of magic with. As Celestia's student, Twilight doesn't want to show off, lest she alienate her friends who would see her as a braggart. As a result, Twilight is beginning to lose her drive to study and learn.

In this ennui of Twilight's early days in Ponyville steps in a nomadic showpony who might just reignite Twilight's passion for magic. Meet the Great and Powerful Tristan!

Featured Box, 24–27 Jun 2015!

Written as one of my two entries for Everfree Northwest's fanfiction competition, this story tackles the friendship that everypony hopes to see: the resolution between Twilight Sparkle and Trixie, as told in a series of letters. However, how can two ponies who are so different make peace? And will a misunderstood letter destroy the fragile cease-fire between these two powerful unicorns?

Letters From the Capital, by Apple Bottoms

Really, really well done correspondence trope. Both characters stand out as unique and multi-dimensional. The story and plot are there, but not forced, and there’s a lovely emotional component as well. Together, it all fits very naturally as a story of new friendship.

For such a restrictive word limit, Apple Bottoms manages to weave a touching narrative that, somehow, doesn’t feel constrained by the word limit. Or by the format. Trixie and Twilight are both given room to be themselves, and the story just feels good to read. In a contest full of standouts, Letters From The Capital still manages to stand a cut above.

This story goes a route you don’t usually see in shorter fiction, but achieves this unexpected storyline because of the chosen format as a series of letters. In a contest where the the storyline is to make new friends, this one has the possible friendship first dip and weaken, threatening to break before it grows back into something stronger and more lasting than it was before. It is a kind of storyline I don’t recall seeing in any of the stories I read, and the same could be said for this format. A unique plot told in a unique way to give us a unique take on the contest prompt.

Twilight Sparkle regrets a lot of decisions. Not spending more time with her family. Wasting away in a library rather than being out making friends, among other things. But when she can she attempts to make right what she feels she has done wrong.

And an opportunity to do that has presented itself.

When her friends return from Manehatten having encountered a former enemy, Twilight sets off in search of somepony Great and Powerful, to do what she feels she should have done a long time ago.

Sometimes though, the damage done can't be repaired, mistakes aren't forgiven, and the opportunity passes by.

Takes place after Season 4.

It had been a year since Twilight had heard of anything from Trixie after the Alicorn Amulet incident. Unexpectedly, she receives a letter saying that her so called "rival" has tragically died and is requested to be at her funeral.
